It now cost over 10g to make a single insignia.
Oh well.. I guess leveling your crafting skill wasn’t that important anyways…
I believe one of the Halloween items needs 3 stacks of it to make, so that might be why, also you could just but armor and salvage it.

Yes
I’m so poooor now

Apparently this is fine though, no problem with leather at all relative to other mats. Absolutely none
Hardened leather was exorbitantly expensive before Halloween. I sold two stacks of squares I had, they went nearly instantly.
I reserved one, which is now badly depleted from me making things. It seems that drops for this have been greatly reduced for some reason, although doubtless they will deny it.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Essence_of_Halloween from the candy corn vendor. Toss it and 3 stacks of cured thick leather squares into the mystic forge to create a mystic chest.
The chest drops items that are used to create infinite use scrolls to teleport you to the various racial cities.
Although, the OP was referring to hardened leather sections, not cured thick leather squares.
Edit: Oh! You need a total of 750 hardened leather sections (250 hardened leather squares) for crafting the Nighfury shoulder armor. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Nightfury_Skin#Full_material_list This could be the reason for the price going up in the trading post.

I think it’s a combination of Nightfury and the fact that the economy dude has pretty much said he’s not doing anything to fix it because it’s not an issue of demand outstripping supply, but players hoarding supply. However, rather than making players who are hoarding it want to sell off their stock, the whole “not going to fix either the drop rates or reassure players that hardened leather won’t be required in new recipes” approach has had the opposite effect because, as it turns out, most players hoard it because it’s required in a bunch of stuff and is doled out quite stingily by rngesus.
That’s all? Time to buy.
nightfury, legendary armor speculation, etc…. a few to name… Anet simply need to fix the supply….
Archeage = Farmville with PK
Apparently there is nothing wrong with the supply though. Nothing wrong with the least accessible mat being needed in the highest quantities
From the perspective of an average player like myself, not someone who has been playing since beta or, someone filthy rich…
The drop/salvage rate of hardened leather section has become abysmal.
If I am unable to craft a full exotic armour for a new character I don’t see how I could supply the market with what I can spare.
The price of one piece of cured hardened leather closing to 1 gold is absurd in general, but it makes perfect sense when we consider the rarity of hardened leather sections.
In short ANet need to increase said rate, even without openly admitting it – so the so-called “John Smith” could come back to us at a later date and tell us in a straight face, “I told you the market will be self-regulated.” :P

That’s true … now you’re catching on.

Nope, you still fail to catch sarcasm. There is something very wrong with leather acquisition vs how much is required. Very, very wrong.
Oh the irony …EYE fail at it. OK :/
Yes, you think it’s wrong, so it’s wrong. Players are the epitome of correctness in MMO’s. We all heard this before.

Meh, they can keep the drop rate and acquisition for T6 leather the same. I just want the crafting recipe from requiring 3 down to 2. =/
Will update once Path of Fire releases.

I am always amazed at the power at which john smith can wield over this economy. However, I always wonder about his ability to distribute supply.

You do realize that goes both ways, right? You think its ok, so its ok. We’ve all heard that before. This argument is useless in a debate.
I see far, far more people complain about this than people who think its ok. Orders of magnitude more if you consider people on Reddit and gasp people ingame instead of just those on the forums. There is no reason for the material used in the most recipes and in the greatest quantities is the absolute rarest base material (rare than some mats that are actually classified as “rare”) to be found. Absolutely none. And all of the arguments about not wanting its price to tank to vendor prices again……. Well somehow wood and ore aren’t at vendor prices despite being the two refinable mats that are actually directly farmable. Same would happen to leather. It would keep a reasonable price even if the gates were opened and leather nodes were added to all maps.
You see them where? I mean, if you don’t see someone not say it’s OK, does that mean they aren’t there?
You see what you want to see, because it supports your position. You aren’t being sensible when you make statements like “I see more people BLAH BLAH” … of course you do … because people don’t make redundant threads about how they like the prices for mats. That would be stupid … so you DON’T see those people. I hear lots about people being murdered … yet I don’t hear about people not being murdered … do I conclude murder is rampant? No. Some deductive reasoning is in order here. Try it.
I get you don’t like the price but unless you live under a rock, you know Anet does things in game that affect pricing. Every time i see threads like this, I think “Wow, way to ignore the last 4+ years of the game”. I guess you think your sarcastic remarks are meaningful to Anet yet they are not inline with the guidelines to good feedback … Guess who is more likely to be taken seriously?
Frankly, I don’t see the problem with 30s T6 leather, just like I don’t see the problem with cheap ectos or whatever FOTM rant on pricing seems to be and if you play this game, you can’t because it’s dictated by the market price more than ever now that Anet is putting it on cruise control.
You got options, but I can assure you, one of them is not to goad/bully/harrass Anet into just putting more T6 leather in the game.

No, most it is most likely not possible to “bully” Anet into putting more T6 leather in the game, but for a casual player who is not rich almost 1 gold per hardened leather square is an insanely high price and the drop rate is terribly, terribly low. And this is is annoying and frustrating. Hence the posts.
I remember a time when even casual players could affort to craft something. When I actually crafted exotic armor for a new character when he/she reached level 80. Now I mostly use the WvW vendor or buy karma armor. And I really, really wished I would have pushed my remaining two crafting skills to 500 as well when it still was affordable. Financially it will be a pain in the kitten to level them up the remaining 50 points.
When it finally regulates itself the market will hopefully remember that there are players who do not have much time at hand to play and who don’t want to spend their precious playtime solely on grinding money.

I’m a casual and I can afford to craft things. And I don’t grind for money. I may do things that I find fun in order to gain money (like run through maps gathering mats), but I stop the moment I’m bored of it.
You’re also forgetting that it’s gotten easier to earn gold over time so the fact that the prices of some things have risen is not certain proof that something is wrong.
When it finally regulates itself the market will hopefully remember that there are players who do not have much time at hand to play and who don’t want to spend their precious playtime solely on grinding money.
This argument is such a fallacy … you spend your precious playtime grinding money whether you like it or not because almost every activity I can think of rewards you with gold directly, or with mats you can sell to make gold. The best part is that this ‘unintentional grinding’ for gold is fun because Anet made it the reward for playing, not JUST purposeful grinding.

Yes, of course you are right, Obtena, there are a lot of possibilities to “unintentionally” grind gold and have fun at the same time. Maybe I have done the things I like a little bit too often and suddenly it feels like a chore. I should take Seera’s the advice to stop doing things the moment I am bored to heart ;-).
i think i know why, but mentioning here would be catastrophic. all i can say is you will not see the price per leather section coming down . not in a near future.

Normally id agree with these sort of posts, ( like I did with the mystic coins until people said they where fine, cough right )
But
Unlike the mystic coins, leather can be farmed, has no one farmed the new maps, from just doing dailies in the 2 new maps I can make 10-15 of this leather, granted RNG from salvaging plays a part, but it can be farmed.

people saying anet needs to fix the issue are missing the root cause of the problem i think which is the expectation that anet WILL meddle in the economy. thats what makes (some) people hoard stuff and that loop is probably what they are trying to break
^^ That’s a pretty insightful post. People should take some time to think about why prices are what they are and how they will be affected by Anet’s new direction.

Unless there is some intervention the leather bubble won’t break. Due to how much leather you need it just doesn’t make any sense to sell off your leather if you even think you will craft something that needs it in the future. And as long as it doesn’t make sense to sell what you don’t need immediately, people won’t do it.
