Unbelievable.

You thought you were just going to be handed a whole trait line and elite spec?

You thought that you would be able to go and craft a legendary without having to run all over the place, gather mats and do tasks?

You thought that you would be able to walk right on through the heart of what is supposed to be the enemy’s home turf without having to worry about LOTS of really, really big bad nasties trying to kill you?

You didn’t realize that the neighborhood was going to be so bad that you’d have to walk the streets in groups or get mugged?

You didn’t realize that challenging GROUP content meant all over the new zones, not simply in dungeons and fractals?

That’s okay.

For some reason I expected less sniveling. Looks like we’re both going to have to get used to disappointment.

You are totally misunderstood. I don’t know why everybody thinks all of those that are stressed want everything right away. That’s not at all what we have ever said. We are stressing because the process of earning these things is currently very Boring and not that rewarding. I don’t mind the working on masteries and searching for hero points. The point is that, in its current state, it is a time consuming and boring grind. I was hoping that the expansion was going to be Fun, Challenging, and Rewarding. But it seems to be Challenging, Boring, and Unrewarding.

I think the main problems are:

1. The HoT hero points largely cannot be done solo unlike EVERY hero point in old Tyria. So not only do you have to explore and grind away to get to the hero point, you then have to wait or party up to get help. This can be a pain if you only have a few hours to jump on. (Nevermind that you have to have map completion to get HALF the hero points you need)

2. I have plenty of mastery points but no way to use them. Re-leveling my 80 in HoT areas only is an abysmal grind, especially considering the available events. At this point I will be completely done exploring all the zones long before I have a large portion of the masteries unlocked.

Wasn’t the point of HoT to be able to play with these new elites and masteries? What is the point of having them if you’ve had to rip through all the new content just to get them?

You have to love people who make forum posts like this, and have no clue as to why people are having issues with the expansion. At least go and read the thread that has almost 3k posts and see some of the reasons why people are disappointed.

You thought you were just going to be handed a whole trait line and elite spec?

Nope, fully expected to have to do “something” for it, given that is was labeled as “character progression.” Just wasn’t expecting it to be quite so steeply priced. Add to that the fact that a good 50% of the hero challenges aren’t actually soloable (from what I’m reading), tends to be mildly annoying.

You thought that you would be able to go and craft a legendary without having to run all over the place, gather mats and do tasks?

Again, fully expected this (asked for it actually). Didn’t expect it to be more expensive than just straight up buying the precursor though. Granted, prices of the base materials do fluctuate and they did want to have that time factor, but they might have overshot the mark by just hair.

No, but many weren’t expecting it to be almost completely non-solo friendly. Not the open world and story portions, anyway. More difficult yet. Impossible, no.

You didn’t realize that challenging GROUP content meant all over the new zones, not simply in dungeons and fractals?

Sorry, but the last time I checked, the only ‘content’ that they had slapped the “challenging group” keywords on were raids (and high end fractals). Not the open world. Not the story. Anet stated that these components of the game were intended for everyone. Not just the hardcore or the ‘elite’ players.

I’m not against haven’t a bit more difficulty in the open world. However, if they want to make open world “challenging” content with a body count requirement, then they need to make it instanced, and they need to give us back our heroes and hench. The ‘challenging’ part of content should not be trying to find ‘x’ number of competent people just so we can experience it, let alone complete it.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

You buy a car.

You drive this car for 3 years.
The manufacturer comes to you and says, Hey, we’ll sell you a motor upgrade and a sunroof for $50, and transport you and your car to another continent so you can experience the new ride in style.

You say, holy smokes that’s the best deal since sliced bread.
You pay $50, they upgrade your car and take you to (insert other continent).

You hop in the car. And as you do the salesman says, oh by the way, you have to drive the old car for 50,000 miles to unlock the new features for the car (with a discount to 25,000 miles if you’ve already driven 250,000 miles where you came from).

You say hey wait a second, I thought I was going to be able to use the new features as I drove around the new place??
He says, nah you won’t get a sense of adventure or journey if you aren’t earning the new features on your car by experiencing the new place, so getting to use them is locked behind experiencing the very thing you wanted to experience with the upgrades.

It’s like putting the cart before the horse.
Or locking the key inside the chest.
And yes, it’s just as stupid.

There is absolutely no evidence to support that it would.” -AnthonyOrdon

I believe this gets to the root of the problem. Many did not read carefully when Anet presented much of the information about the expansion and made assumptions about how the content would work. Then they became dissapointed and/or angry when the expansion did not line up with THEIR ASSUMPTIONS.

This expansion addresses the two main complaints about GW2 since release. Hard content, and end game progression. You can have your opinion that they implemented these things incorrectly, but many of the complaints are massively unfair. One of the main ones is that people say “I wanted to play through the whole expansion as the new spec.” Ignoring the fact that you can pretty much do this, Anet never said that you could do this. Most of the posts complaining about “promises” Anet made are either explicitly false, or taken in the context of GW2 and not HOT.

Also, your last 2 metaphors for this game are just completely false and inaccurate. Once again going to show the level of sensationalism and overexaggeration that is destroying the information gathering processes on the internet.

extra dodges, real stability, mobility skills,
burst skills, sustain, or good support. GG ANET.
