I think the concept of the mastery system is great and it gives us something to do in terms of endgame, However, I feel the game is very limited in the way we could earn mastery points. For the base game tyria mastery points, it seems the only way to earn the mastery point I need is to grind achievement,. However there are many of us and me included that really dont give a kitten about achievement. hence, please arena net, add a way for us people who really dont like complicated achievement system to earn mastery point a different way!
AND HOW ABOUT THIS, MAKE SOME BOSSES A REPEATED MASTERY POINT, LIKE IF WE KILL WORLD BOSS TEQ 5 TIMES WE EARN 1 MASTERY POINT. PLS RETHINK THE SYSTEM THANK YOU!

One of the point of mastery points is to challenge you in various ways across Tyria (and the HoT maps). It’s not to have you sit in one place and grind out MP’s. You’re against grinding achievements (only do them once) yet you’re not against grinding Teq (killing him 5 times for 1 MP)?

you misunderstood, the point of this article is about people who hate achievements and dont give a kitten about them, for some of us we just like killing the same thing over and over again!

Think of them as quests then. You do such and such to be awarded a single MP.

At least the mastery points have objectives and goals… I wish it was ONLY mastery points and they dropped the EXP… The grind is the ridiculous part… having 100s of hours and exp boosters galore does not mean I “mastered” anything other than a massive amount of free time… The achievements on the other hand (some of them) actually pose challenges and mastery of the game itself.

If your only purpose in the game is to do the daily bosses, yeah then you could complain that you don’t get enough Mastery Points, but other than that the possibilities to gain MPs in Central Tyria are fairly widespread.
You only need 49 MPs for all Masteries in Central Tyria and you can get a total of 80 MPs, so there is a lot of variety to choose where to get them.
You like bosses? Kill Tequatl, the Karka Queen, and Triple Trouble, each gives you one MP.
You like jumping puzzles? Do them, once all done you get a MP.
Do the personal story, every finished chapter gives a MP.
Like collecting armor or weapons? Bioluminescence armor, ascended crafted armor, fractal weapons, ambrite weapons, each completed collection gives a MP
You like doing Fractals? Each fractal has a “sidequest”, a little task, most of them aren’t really difficult you can do them while doing the fractal. Each one gives a MP.
And that were 51 MPs I just listed, more than enough. Some might be a bit hard or time consuming, others are fairly simple. And they cover the whole spectrum of activities in Tyria.
So what you want is not a wide variety of possibilities to get MPs, this is given. You want to get all MPs for just doing the same stuff over and over again aka grind all MPs with a single task and that is plain and simple not how they are intended to be achieved. See what I did? You achieve MPs and don’t grind them.

thats excatly the problem, some of those stupid achievement are time consuming, I have other things to do! I would rather just kill a boss or mobs over and over again! why cant I earn mastery points that way?

I would like to just do jumping puzzles and read lore over and over again. Why can’t I earn mastery points that way?

I don’t ever want to go anywhere near drydock scratch again, but i have to, to get all those kitten golden badges. You don’t see me whining about it. kittening, yes. Rolling my eyes and dreading how much I’m going to spend on WP fees from repeatedly falling to my death (10g spent thus far), sure. But I’m still gonna suck it up and do it.
Granted, if some wonderful mesmer takes pity on me and offers to help, I definitely won’t say no.

What if it was an achievement to kill teq 5 times? Your mind would be blown.

Yes, I agree.
Development should go back and re-watch some of their release and pre-release videos about their vision of what the core game is about. Because they’ve lost their way, and that’s a very scary thing as the game is still young, in MMO terms.

Overall I’m fine with central tyria masteries. My problem is more with HoT ones. I agree with OP in so far as there need to be more ways to earn the MPs. More diversity in ways that you can earn them doesn’t hurt anything (imo), and just gives people the ability to find other ways to get them.
I personally don’t enjoy map completion (I’ve done it once on my main, and dread having to do it again). But I’m kind of being forced into doing it for some of the mastery points. I love the achievement based ones and I’ve done a bunch of them already. I would just like a more reliable way of getting them. Even if it is exchange 25-30 tomes of knowledge for 1. (Kitten knows we have nothing else to spend those endless tomes on with 9 level 80s).
