We have posted a revised and expanded FAQ about Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns that includes new information about the pre-purchase program. You will note that we will begin applying the free character slots to eligible accounts this week and will be doing so weekly moving forward. You can find the full details in the HoT FAQ here.
Thank you gail. Just hope the wife will let me buy HoT before launch, not that it matters too much. I have a spear alot for a rev, and plan to get the deluxe edition anyway.
Still mentions the physical retailer pre-purchase stuff, but the only official partner (Gamestop for U.S.) still isn’t listing anything but the download. Any news on what’s going on with that?

Is there a physical collector’s edition planned for Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns?
There are no plans for a physical collector’s edition for Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns. Heart of Thorns will be offered in Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate Editions (all of which are available for pre-purchase and include digital in-game bonuses only).
Pretty sure Dark is talking about this since they didn’t mention anything about a collector’s edition:
Can I pre-purchase through my favorite retailer?
Yes. Starting on June 23, 2015, you’ll be able to pre-purchase boxed and digital editions of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns from our official retail partners (additional retailers may be added during the pre-purchase period).

Knowing Game-stop I could see it being a box’d download code.
I’ve already bought the digital Ultimate edition. But if a worthy Collector’s edition comes out I’ll probably buy it too. But from the wording there is no Collector’s edition, and at most a box’d standard, deluxe, and ultimate edition.
I’m think it is indeed just the box with a code inside, but I can’t verify that. Some people like the box though because they collect them. Other’s may not have a method of payment available to them to allow them to make online purchases so a store bought copy is their only choice.
