Apparently, specializations are going to be a much bigger thing than what players may think. There’ll be a whole week devoted to each one of them.

Assume that’s true. That puts the release date at a minimum of 8-9 weeks away, and that’s assuming they start talking about the specializations this week.

I’d say we’re looking at late summer at the earliest.

Well seeing as BETA haven’t even started yet I don’t think anyone thought that it would be here sooner than that.

They have been working on this expansion for years. do you honestly think it took hundreds of anet employees to make the living world season 1 and 2 content over the last 2.5 years? They probably had like 20 developers working on that stuff while the rest focused on the expansion. Living story is just, and will continue to be, stuff we get to fill the gaps between expansions, which I love considering other mmos only release expansions then nothing new for 6-12 months.

If they have been working on this for years, it’s bloody amazing they haven’t got a betah yet, and some of the specializations and the revenant details are not final yet. Realistically speaking they haven’t been working on this for years. Cause they wanted the living story to be their thing. And it just didn’t work out for them. China didn’t go as stellar as they hoped either. That’s why we’re getting this living story + feature patch “expansion” now. I mean truly, if all we get is 3 to 4 new zones, a new class and masteries after 2.5 years of development, we’re pretty much doomed. 2,5 years and they couldn’t add a dungeon? Some new fractals? A new race? Fix underwater combat? or add the ability to have skills/traits templates? Hell not even the ability for rangers to perma name their pets! I think it’s time we faced the reality of our situation. This is a filler expansion while they’ll start working on a proper one later on. We’ll get stelar quality living story content for the price of an expansion and a possibly cool (i most certainly hope so) feature patch. And that’s ok.

How can you even claim this when everything they’ve said literally says they’ll be getting new mechanics? They are not a completely new class, but they are not going to be 2-5 new weapon abilities. We’re talking serious changes that would require you to switch between the specialization and the normal class in order to use either of them. We’ve already heard references to a Druid Ranger, we’ve seen the Hammer Engineer with floating drones (things normal engineers have neither of, including anything remotely related to melee skills since they have none), and we’ve seen the Shield Mesmer using their shield to do some butterfly thing, who knows exactly what that is.

Maybe some of the specs are less different from the original class than others, but they are a lot more different than you’re letting on, and there’s nothing backing up your statements, at least not from Anet.

I claim that cause the ranger’s mechanic is their pet. And the druid will still have pets. That’s evidence that suggests that the core mechanics will not change dramatically (we might not even get a new trait line like it was originally hypothesized, just new shiny traits to go with the specialisation) but will be modified instead. Take that engineer for example and his floating drones. Even that can be handled like a modified base mechanic. All they have to do is have traits that affect turrets affect them too. See what i mean? New class mechanics are hard to do. It’s like designing a new class altogether. it’s unrealistic to believe that such a thing will happen. That’s why we’re getting specilisations in the first place.

That last bit is not really an argument, we’re expressing our opinions, our take on things. Same goes for you. You got nothing also (well ok you got promises but the value of words in the mmo industry is quite low, and for a good reason). They haven’t shown anything yet. But from what they have shown, you can easily infer what i said. In a few weeks we’ll know for sure. But, don’t hold your breath. I honestly and sincerely hope that i’m wrong and that we do get almost like a new and shiny class for each and every class we already have. I’d love that. But i feel that that’s unrealistic and we already got the first indications that that is not going to happen.

Very well said. It’s obvious that ArenaNet has not been working on HoT for years now. The expansion is likely the result of panic after the China release underperformed, delivering little more than an upped version of the living world.

Anet is pretty good at hyping up the tiniest little detail. I’m sure they’d have no problem fitting a few weapon/utility skills into an entire week. What new information have we gotten on anything since announcement over a month ago, other than a little Revenant information, and the break bar thing? If that’s all they have to show after a month, then either the game is a year from release, or there really isn’t an expansion packs worth of content in the expansion pack.

I’m still going to buy it, though… For some reason.

It’s really amazing how some people are.
It’s not an expansion if it does not have ALL of these:

  • new races
  • new dungeons
  • new skills
  • new classes
  • new armors
  • new weapons
  • new game modes

It does not matter if it has some or most things on the list, as long as it does not have every last item, it’s not an expansion and we have to come up with conspiracy theories.

PS: It’s not an expansion if it doesn’t have CANTHA! omgwtfbbq

So far, only races (and Cantha) are not part of it :-D

(This is a general statement, not aimed at anybody in particular)

Joking aside, it’s amazing how people already have access to the whole HoT content while I’m stuck in the same old game.

We have been shown the brand new features/content, not all features/content. They’re not gonna spend a week just to tell us “You’re gonna get new armor/weapons skins.”

You don’t know what will be in the expansion, nobody does. So let’s stop speculating over things we barely know about, at that rate should we start threads asking questions about the (supposedly) second expansion?

Plus, for those who complain about the price of the said expansion: I have paid 55€ for the game, spent only 30€ in 3 years, and I’ve played 1900h, that means I played for 0,04€/hour. Do you think ANet exaggerate the fact we have to pay for their work? Just because you bought a house doesn’t mean you won’t have to pay the bills.

Even if HoT is 55€ too, I’m sure I will play at least another 1000h (story + potential LS), so let’s stop that stupid argument of “it should be more than 30 bucks because it hasn’t much content”, because 1. you don’t know how big it is and 2. the price is worth the work they put in it.

If you are too cheap to buy the expansion (because the release won’t be tomorrow so you have time to save for it), just don’t buy it, you’ll still have some features for free, but don’t complain since it will be your choice.

But they did develop new technology just for this expansion and that technology, upon which the expansion is based, could have easily taken a year by itself.

If that’s the case then the stuff that depends on that technology started later than the rest of it, and still isn’t finished.

We don’t know how much new tech was designed for this, but we know there IS new tech.

And that’s the problem with making assumptions. And expansion can take two years before it gets to beta if you have to redesign the base game to accomodate it.

I wouldn’t be so quick to call it assumptions. More like . . . circumstantial evidence given what we have and not have seen and heard.

If that makes sense.

It’s the biggest reason for threads like this. People aren’t just pulling that impression out of thin air.

You don’t need new technology to produce new dungeons, or fractals, or trait saving, or rangers naming their bloody pets or many other things they could have added to the game while researching this new and amazing technology. A bit of realism can’t possibly hurt us. This isn’t an expansion. It’s a big feature patch with a season of living story rolled into one, with a new class. Why exactly we’re in a rush to give ’em excuses is beyond me. (As always, since there will be at least one person who takes things personally, this is my opinion, and not the absolute truth of the universe).

But let’s move away from that for a moment. Let’s assume that they have some brand new tech that will leave us all in awe. Were is it? You’d think they would have presented it by now. They would be crazy not to. If i had some amazing tech sitting around that would make the game tht much better, when i was presenting the major features of my expansion it would be number one on the list. Hey guys look! yes you’re not getting the tengu and you’re only getting a few zones sure, but check this baby out! Took me 1.5 years to develop that kitten but it’s totally worth it. And we’ve had none of that. The only new tech that they showed us is the ability of the revenant to have a moving reflecting wall. Colour me unimpressed.

You are judging that there is little content pay attention Anet are just revealing THE MAJOR FEATURES for HOT there are things that are tied in with features we had in the orgional that are being done so don’t go crying saying there’s not going to be enough content when we havent had all the features revealed give them time and don’t jump to conclusions

You’d think new dungeons, fractals etc would be considered a major feature. If one map for pvp is considered one, why not a dungeon. And let’s not forget the answer colin gave angry joe when asked how big is the expansion, how many zones. “We’re focusing on features”. And those have been already announced. In all honesty what exactly we’re expecting here? that they’ll go “fooled ya all didn’t we? we also have 3 new dungeons in the works and 5 more fractals”. And that answer colin gave. It screams out, not that many zones. I’m assuming 3 to 4. Making these zones not easily exporable, but instead hiding bits and pieces behing the grind that’s the mastery system, isn’t content. Really it’s not. Having to do the same events again and again to grind your glider mastery just so you can reach a place of the map you couldn’t before, isn’t really “content”. Imagine if you’re in another zone in old tyria, and an invisible wall prevented you from accessing half the zone. And a message poped up saying, sorry laddy, you need to do 30 more events in this zone to cross this thing here. Would you really call this content? Cause that’s what we’re getting. Wanna reach that place there? grind that glider mastery. Want to see that bit here? grind your mushrooms. Want perhaps that one over there? go grind froggy lore stuff. Now granted this might be more enjoyable than the insivisiwall thingy but still, i can’t in good conscience call that amazing design and buckets of content (personal opinion, for the easily confused).

I just want to focus on the bolded part. I agree it’s not amazing design but honestly it’s entirely not feasible for them to create content at a pace that players won’t eat up within weeks if not a month. If there’s any developer who can create content faster than players can consume it please show me cuz I’d like to give props to that dev company. Even WoW with all the money it makes can’t churn out content that quickly. You have to gate things in order for their to be progression and for it to feel like you’re actively making progress towards something which in the end will feel like an achievement.

Now yes some people don’t find any fun in that at all (Why do I have to level up my glider to reach higher places, why can’t I just do that once I get my glider? Etc etc) these are valid arguments but again this is the surest way to prolong time for devs to create new content.

There are people working on creating their first legendaries still to this day, not because some crazy amount of player skill is involved but just because it involves a lot of grind. But I wager that a lot of those people will still feel like they achieved something worthwhile once they finally complete it.

So yes I agree that it’s not amazing design. But honestly, it works for me. It gives me enough of a sense of progression that I’m mighty excited to work through each tier of mastery and I know this will extend the amount of time I spend playing with GW2.

I think you misunderstood the point I was trying to make. I agree that content can’t be produced faster than it’s being consumed. that’s a fact of mmo life for me. All i’m saying is just don’t get your hopes up too much. Keep it real. Be logical and realistic. There won’t be any new tech to awe and woo us. Most likely the specializations won’t be almost like a new class. And although big, the zones, won’t be as big as we might have hoped. The jungle will be dense, and gaps will have to exist for the glider/mushroom mechanic to have any meaning. Revenant will be cool if not a bit constricted on it’s builds (i don’t mind that). And as long as the mastery grind isn’t totally ridiculous and we’ll end up forced to grind the same events on the same zones for what would feel like an eternity, that should be fun to.

Having said all that, i don’t feel that the players should provide them with excuses. We shouldn’t. We should demand the very best of them. Unless this expansion is free, or for 5 euros, they’re not doing us any favours. They’re selling us a product. And they need to know, and understand that this won’t fly for a second time. We get that their plan didn’t work out as they wanted to and they had to change it. We even support ‘em on their new plan. But if nobody speaks up, nobody criticizes what’s happening here, all expansions will be like that. If all we do is provide excuses for them to sell us expansion with less content, that’s what they’ll do. Don’t bet on their good graces. They need to know that this is a one time only deal the community is letting slide, cause we love the game and want the best for it. We’re spending our money and our time in this world. The next expansion, should be a proper one. They need to know that. They need to feel it. Us critisising the current expansion, is exactly that. Hope this helps

Several times during the video where they showed the revenant, they talked about skills that used new technology.

A lot of the basis for this expansion wasn’t designing a dungeon, it was designing a new system to move forward. Making and testing stuff like that that’s a lot more time than making a new dungeon.

To be clear, the game wasn’t working for a lot of people because there was no feeling of progression. This changes enough of the core game to make it feel like a different game.

I get you’d rather have a dungeon. Many people would rather have a better core game.

And if you think making changes like that to the core game doesn’t take more time than making some dungeons, I’m not sure what else to tell you.

Yeah, an amazing technology that applies only to the revenant and nobody else who also took ’em apparently 1.5 years to come up with. So much for the realistic approach huh?

If the absence of progression was the issue many folks have, then i’m sorry to say that the problem remains. We’re still lvl 80, we’re still grinding for ascended and legendary. The only progression you’ll be having is grinding events in a couple of jungle zones to gain enough xp to unlock abilities so you can explore a little more of the jungle zones. Where you’ll still be grinding even more events in them same zones to get to the next bit. You’ll gain abilities applicable not to your character as a whole but on a per zone/world area basis. Amazing upgrade to the problem of progression. Indeed you are right this changes the core game. From do anything to grind your kitten off in some jungle zones. But don’t you worry cause now you’ll have your mastery number showing up next to your name so everybody would know what a pro you are. You can explore 10% more of a zone. Bravo! True progression that one. Sorry for the rant, it’s not directed on you friend.

Anyways, back on track, no you don’t get it. I -personally- don’t want a dungeon, i never do ‘em, got burned years ago with raiding and now i never go near the stuff. I -personaly- don’t care much about fractals either. But that’s not the point. Others do, and an expansion should cater to them too. For me, i would totally settle with the ability to finally name my bloody pets. Cause that Juvenille title is making me nerd rage. Not nice. So you see, the expansion isn’t done for the benefit of some, but should cater for all the playerbase.

Adding grind, doesn’t change the core game. Hiding it behind abilities that are zone bound instead of character bound isn’t progression either. Imagine having to grind for the ability to use wp’s in every single zone. Wow progression! i can now tp to 4 more zones than i could one month ago. And in all honesty making changes like that don’t require as much time as you think it does. The only “progression” we’re getting are specializations, and we still don’t know much about ‘em, appart form the pr line of they’re almost like a secondary class with new class mechanics. Only we now know that that’s not happening much either. See the druid and his pets. So untill we get more info the jury is out on that one. But i wouldn’t hold my breath. And if you can stand here and tell me that what you’re seeing you feel like it’s the work that being produced after -supposedly- working on this for 2.5 years I don’t know what else to tell you…

Indeed. Comparing the amount of content we appear to have incoming, and how much new content we got in the original Guild Wars two years after its release… The difference is simply mind blowing. HoT feels more like the result of a few months of work than anything else.

It seems the jury is not still out…what I am hearing is the jury deliberated and gave a verdict before even hearing all the evidence. That verdict? Condemned!

well, no new dungeons, no new fractals, no trait saving, not many maps, not much map diversity either (all in jungle), no new race, no fix of the zhaitan fight, no underwater combat revamp, no new weapons (still no blacksmith in tyria thought to make a huge axe that needs both hands) still the same gear for us to grind. let’s be honest, the jury is out on those things.

we’re still waiting for the evidence on the specializations.

if this isn’t a filler expansion while they work on a proper one i don’t know what is…

You seems to know very much about stuff that have not been mentioned at all actually, so would love to see a source for all this.
Or is it simply you assuming stuff, which is basically what the whole point of the post you quoted was?

We still have heard nothing about the challenging group content.
We have heard nothing about the number of maps.
We have not hear anything about if all maps will be jungle (in fact we have seen areas in the trailer that are desert, which is quite possible that it will be playable).
No new playable race is indeed confirmed.
No information about changes to Zhaitan fight, but unlikely that they would “waste” resources on something like that.
Why waste time on underwater combat when a very small part of the game uses it and no new content for it will come with the expansion?
What would new weapons add to the game that is not already here?

So about half the stuff you claim to know about is something we have basically no information about.

We still have heard nothing about the challenging group content.

I’m sure they’ll go "hahahaha we fooled ya, here are some dungeons we didn’t announce as a major feature, also have some fractals for free… ".

Challenging content.. oh but we do know a bit about that don’t we? We got the wyvern fight already, and we know that adventures will now have leaderboards. But never fear, let’s all believe that there’s some awesome content hidden from us. Cause they don’t want us to get too excited.

We have heard nothing about the number of maps.

Not true, we do have heard something from angryjoe’s interview with colin. “So how big is this expansion, how many maps” … “We’re focusing on features with this expansion”. That was the answer. We can be pretty sure that such a statement does not raise many hopes for many maps. If it’s four, i’ll be pleasantly surprised. But sure, if you want to feel hopefull we’ll get 8 or 7 please be my guest.

We have not hear anything about if all maps will be jungle (in fact we have seen areas in the trailer that are desert, which is quite possible that it will be playable).

You do understand that when describing the maps they were talking about “the jungle”. When they were talking about the biomes of the maps they talked about roots, ground lvl (of the jungle) and canopy. So you’re probably confusing “the jungle” with the wvw trailer which indeed has sand in it. Realistically speaking, don’t expect much sand in the jungle, or snow. Be happy if you get rocks that aren’t as red as the ones in silverwastes et al. Again if you want to remain optimistic instead of realistic please do.

No new playable race is indeed confirmed.

You sure? I mean they could just hold off on the info just like with dungeons and go, lol, you didn’t think we’ll only release the revenant, here have the tengu and the kodan. cause we love ya!

No information about changes to Zhaitan fight, but unlikely that they would “waste” resources on something like that.

Colin confirmed it in a recent interview. I can’t remember off the top of my head if it was bogotters or someone elses, but he said that he believes that their audience would get more out of new content than revisiting the old.

Why waste time on underwater combat when a very small part of the game uses it and no new content for it will come with the expansion?

Cause they made such a fuss about it in the beginning, cause it’s something actually original and has the potential to be fun and entertaining. Just imagine a small underwater lake in the roots of the jungle with new and interesting creatures, bio luminescent under water plants… I mean it must be more interesting than four zones of plant roots ..

What would new weapons add to the game that is not already here?

Variety. Its the reason all classes gain access to previously not accessible weaponry. Variety. Otherwise we can remove all weapons but 3. Generic 2hander, Generic one hander. Generic off hander. And we can free resources for other things. Silly argument really.

So about half the stuff you claim to know about is something we have basically no information about.

I didn’t claim to know. I deduced (call me sherlock my dear) from what they’ve already said. As i said, feel free to feel super optimistic. Want to believe we’ll get many and visually diverse zones? go right ahead. Nobody’s stopping you. We are on an opinion forum after all. We’re sharing opinions. Are we not?

I won’t buy promises. Selling a foundation for future change is just that. Some people are throwing around numbers equaling the cost of an entire game, or GW1 campaigns which rivaled the amount of content in the original release.

I’ll buy it or not buy it based on its price → content ratio. I of course won’t make that judgement until I see its entirety released and picked apart, but what I’ve seen so far wouldn’t have me pay more than 5 or 10 dollars.

This is largely due to my experience with the core game and its post-release development. For example the Living Story’s focus on creating a small bit of content with large time sinks to keep you zerging that same content over and over again got old for me very fast. I wouldn’t pay for more of that. And yet from what I’ve heard they seem to have little interest in creating other kinds of content.

There are weapons and trait lines that I never touch as it stands, it would feel like gambling to just buy it and then hope the new additions are better or more fun than the builds I’m already pigeonholed into. Or that I wouldn’t be pigeonholed into them.

That is also one example of major issues that have gone unresolved since release. Sometimes even issues that affect core profession mechanics such as pets, minions, and other summons. If I mained ranger I would have shutdown my hypeoid gland the instant I saw their new subclass would still have a pet with no evidence that Anet had any inclination to fix their issues.

And let’s not forget that part of the core design is the monetization of the economy, nay, nearly every aspect of the game. That’s the foundation that was supposed to enable constant content creation without having to sell expansions. So now we’re in a situation where all of the things that I don’t like about having gems→gold I still have to put up with in addition to having to buy the new content…

So yeah, all of these things work against any desire I might have to buy an expansion. Well that and seeing other high quality F2P games regularly releasing the same if not more for free. The actual content would need to be large, diverse, and rewarding for me to spend more than a few dollars. Simply “keeping up” doesn’t hold sway with me anymore.

What makes you think that technology isn’t being fed back through the professions in specializations which they haven’t covered yet. It’s short sighted to think that new technology isn’t something moving forward that makes the game better, possibly much better?

With the ability to add better skills and more specializations this becomes almost a new game.

What makes you think that it is? Have you seen it? Cause i always thought that the default position is to not accept something untill it is demonstrated that it is so (for example, untill someone proves that vampires exist, the default position is to assume that they don’t till the evidence says otherwise). I won’t assume that the new tech will move the game forward untill it actually happens, or untill i see a post from anet explaining how exactly the new tech is gonna provide us with that effect.

The ability to add new skills? Please… I understand that many here have short memories but this is silly. They said we were gonna get an expansion’s worth of content via the living story. Didn’t happen. They said that they’ll be adding new skills into the game, in almost 3 years we got what? 2 new skills? 1? can’t remember cause they’re so many. If you think you’ll be getting new skills and specks left right and center you got another thing comming to ya. The next set of specs will come (if it comes) with the expansion after HoT. In another 3 years probably if you gyus are correct and they’ve been working on this for 2.5 years.

Someone makes more or less definitive statements about how there’s no content in the new game or how it’s just a patch without ever seeing it, having played it, nor knowing everything about it. We still know very little. But I wasn’t the one who made the statement. I simply disagreed with a statement made by others.

But you’re applying this logic to me, when the original premise I’m responding to suffers the same exact issues. We have NOT seen it, you’re right.

So why do you condone judging it negatively not having seen it, and in what way is that not hypocritical?

But here’s the thing, i don’t need to have seen it. Since the default position is one of not acceptance without evidence. What you’re suggesting is equal to… “can you prove that vampires don’t exist? no? i thought so, therefor they exist”. I’m sorry to say this to ya, but it doesn’t work that way. We evaluate what we’ve seen and we make reasonable assumptions on the basis of that. And so far, all the assumptions made have been reasonable. I understand that you don’t like ‘em, or that you may even not aggree with them. But “shouting” as hard as you can "la la la la i can’t hear ya, we’ll all be amazed by the content that has not yet been revealed" is a bit shortsighted, in my opinion.

And not believing that something isn’t true untill the evidence comes up for it is NOT equally bad. Unless there are indications and logical arguments that can allow one to reasonably accept a hypothesis no, not accepting stuff on the basis of faith or wishfull thinking is not equally bad as accepting them. Sorry.

Not to mention that for some things we can make definitive statements. And the rest can be deduced by the evidence that’s been provided to us. I’m sorry you feel that they left out some of the most amazing features of their expansion for later, but they themselves have said that this is it. Every major feature has been already presented. And by major they even included stuff like one (1) pvp map. So the threshhold of “major” is very well bloody low already. Had they developed an amazing tech that would blow our minds, they’d showcase it already.

and trust me, should they reveal something amazing that would change the core game, i’d be the first to admit it. I love this game.

We haven’t seen it and you’re drawing the conclusion it’s more like a patch. That’s the conclusion you are drawing. Therefore you have to prove it. And you can’t because we haven’t seen it.

Try to remember, we’re responding to statements it’s more like a patch, which are unprovable, rather than we’re making the initial statement.

The only real answer is we need to wait and see.

We don’t know anything yet about the size of HoT, so I wouldn’t say it is little content, and from what I can tell it doesn’t seem like little content, I mean, a new class, the specialization, a new PvP mode, and a new WvW map is what is confirmed till now, and there are many speculations about 10-man raids.

How big it is really going to be, we will be able to tell once the actual beta is starting, but right now we can’t really speculate about the size of the expansion.

But that’s true, there’s not enough content in the game. You keep confusing personal opinion with universal truth. And you seem to have trouble understanding that for some people the content of the expansion isn’t enough or sufficient. Do I need to play it, to critique the lack of a new race? Do I need to play it to comment on the fact that we’ll still be grinding for ascended gear? Must I see every single area of the game to be able to say that having a system that gives you abilities in a certain area only isn’t really progressing my character? Must we know everything before asking were are the dungeons, the fractals, the ability for cooks to go up to 500 like other crafting professions? Why? why must we do that exactly? In the off chance that such things exist and they have forgotten to tell us about it? What is this, we aren’t allowed to express our opinions of the game cause we haven’t seen everything? Oh please…

And no we don’t know very little, we already know a plenty. We already know the “major” features. They said again and again and again that those are the major features of the game. Nothing major is coming up. When the druid specialization comes out and it turns out they still got pets (which we already know they do) DESPITE the statements that druid is gonna be almost like a new class what then? Would we be ok to say something then or are you gonna pop back here and scold us off cause we haven’t seen the warrior just yet? or the mezmer? Are you gonna keep pushing the boundaries of this conversation to the realm of “we haven’t seen everything therefor you can’t comment” up until the very end?

All and every judgement comes from what we have seen, what we do know and what we can reasonably infer. That’s what you don’t understand here. And of course always from the perspective of the person writting. What’s enough for you might just not be enough for me.

Bad argument is bad.

The argument is just fine. You just happen to not like it. but it’s fine none the less

The hypothesis is that from what we’ve seen (aka the MAJOR features of the game) this expansion feels like a feature patch and a couple of seasons of living story rolled into one. Sure you can see at what we know, and say it’s big, sure, but for me it not. I don’t understand how can this be so hard to grasp here.

So if the major features aren’t enough to make a judgement on the expansion. What is exactly? Do quantify the amount of info one must have for the ability to express an opinion on the expansion.

There’s a huge difference between the concepts not ENOUGH content and not enough content that I like.

But we still haven’t seen all the content so I still don’t know how anyone can know this.

Sure someone might be attached to the idea that an expansion must come with a new race, but that’s their own preconceptions and has nothing to do with the amount of content over all.

It’s a type of content they particularly want that’s missing, for which there have also been threads. This thread, however, is making a direct statement that we’re not getting enough and I don’t think anyone has enough information to make that determination.

There is none, since all we’re doing here is expressing our own opinions and not universal truth. It’s not like we got a universally accepted measure of enoughness on mmo expansions and we’ve run this one against the scales and it came up short. I thought everyone understands that even statements expressed like statements of truth, are only statements of opinion.

Moving on, are the major features of the game enough to start judging it? I mean really by giving us the major features we already know what’s not in there. So why it is wrong to express an opinion on that?

And when statements like “we focusing on features” are made by the devs, when asked about map sizes float about, can we not make the reasonable assumption that there won’t be many maps?

the continued insistence of having to know “everything” before expressing a negative opinion on the expansion is starting to feel to me like excessive white knighting and an attempt at apologetics. Which in its own right is quite telling, if you think about it.

A week per specialization reveal doesn’t necessarily mean there’s an entire week’s worth of information to post about each one. Just that the reveals will be spaced out one per week.

Yeah my thinking as well. But who knows.
So far what we know is that each specialization gets 1 new weapon and 1 new trait-line (and I think it replaces a current trait-line).

So Chris is in charge of overseeing a project. That’s what producers do.

No technically that’s what managers do. But who knows what Anet means by producer (I’d imagine a producers produces, but that’s just me).

The explorable zone will not be big. The upper levels have to be full of holes for the Archeage copied glider to fly through.

You don’t know. You haven’t seen anything.

Well we have seen a region of the upper level. Mind you it’s not like we’ve seen a whole lot so we can still hold out hope.

They have been working on this expansion for years.

It’s hard to say, since ANet is rather mum on the subject. I personally estimate that they’ve been working on it since after the Chinese release, but that’s just my guesstimate.

Well.. not quite. As I understood it from interviews, Anet only seriously started working on the expansion after the chinese release.

Well they never actually said so in any interview, ANet is pretty good at gagging their developers when the camera’s are rolling.
I’m estimating so since they certainly weren’t working on it for the months and months they were working on Chinese release (by their own description it was a lot of hard work so I imagine there wasn’t room for anything else).

Well, since the expansion is going to be the gate for all future living story content, you can look at it as not only paying for what you get day one of HoT launch, but everything that will be added between then and the next paid expansion.

If it helps.

Well ANet doesn’t seem to have exactly decided on it, but I’d presume it will be gated by merit of it being located in or around the Heart of Maguuma.

It’s not an expansion if it does not have ALL of these:

  • new races
  • new dungeons
  • new skills
  • new classes
  • new armors
  • new weapons
  • new game modes

expansion
noun
the action of becoming larger or more extensive.
“the rapid expansion of suburban London”
synonyms: growth, increase in size, enlargement, extension, augmentation, development, evolution; More
antonyms: reduction in size
the political strategy of extending a state’s territory by encroaching on that of other nations.
“German expansion in the 1930s”
a thing formed by the enlargement or broadening of something.
“the book is an expansion of a lecture given last year”
synonyms: elaboration, enlargement, amplification, development; embellishment
“the book is an expansion of a lecture given last year”

Indeed. Comparing the amount of content we appear to have incoming, and how much new content we got in the original Guild Wars two years after its release…

The equivalence is relativelly false, in that the current ArenaNet is ten times bigger than when they developed the original Guild Wars, so it would only be expected that they would have done much, much more. But comparing how much content GW1 got with how little content GW2 got is a nice way to prove how poorly ArenaNet has been working at content in the newer game.

I have a solution: Don’t buy it. I really am mystified by folks like you. Do you have this much time? You have nothing better to do than negatively postulate the content of an expansion that was pretty recently announced? What is your motivation? Misery loves company? I just don’t understand it. There must be better things to do. Speaking of, I have a Pi day to enjoy. I’m off the the Silverwastes.

Well it depends on the price. The price will determine that. If 60 bucks is the price i won’t. If it’s 30 i will.

Why are you mystified? is it that hard to understand that folks like me like the game and what’s on offer doesn’t impress us? and since we’re paying as much as you for it, we’re entitled to having an opinion and expressing it. The company needs to know.

My motivation is making the game better for me. They need to know what i like and don’t like so they adjust accordingly. If many folk like me express their opinion, we will be heard. It’s not so hard to understand really.
