Hero challenges in HOT
They are making hero point, which have been PvE only up until now, available in WvW. The very fact they are doing that already not makes this a “kitten you” to WvW players. Thats like getting an xbox 360 and being mad because it isn’t an xbox one.
Secondly, if the difficulty would be roughly the same in WvW there wouldn’t be much incentive to go to the Heart of Maguuma which is the originally intended way of getting them. You are just getting an extra, harder, option in case you really do not want to do the first one.
If you really don’t want it to take longer because you are in WvW then you cab always go to the Heart of Maguuma.
Also, you could actually say that hero point in the Heart of Maguuma take hours because you do not only have to do the challenge, you also have to get there and play all the content before it whereas in WvW you don’t have to do anything extra, you just play the normal WvW game and get them instead of having to go out of your way in PvE.

Load of crap:
Get there = crossing the map ignoring everything else <- reach the challenge.
Play the content <- do a hero challenge that take 10 minutes(I take max time).
WvW 5 rank; equal taking a good amount of time & forcing you to compete again other players : 10 hero point.
Seems legit. :sarcasm:

It would be nice if I didn’t have to waste 120 hero points on 2 trait lines I never use. That is 12 hero challenges in HoT just to make up for wasted hero points.
I mean it would have been fine if it was 2 times, or even 3 times longer in WvW. It would still provide WvW players a decent way of leveling their specialization while playing what they enjoy. After all before that people could level and gain the skill points they needed doing wvw if they wanted to. They were not forced to do pve content with each of their alts. I don’t get the “hero points are supposed to be pve” thing … The original game leveling in the original didn’t work like this and hero points are just a replacement for skill points that people would get plenty of just playing WvW.
Here unlocking the specialization while technically possible is beyong reasonnable compared to pve (probably 20 to 50 times longer). Either the person who decided to require 5WvW ranks doesn’t realize the time it takes to get those, or Anet really doesn’t expect anyone to unlock their specialization through WvW.
Although what you say may be true, we don’t yet know how long or how difficult completing Hero Challenges in the Heart of Maguuma is. There weren’t any in the betas to compare to those in core Tyria.

Flamethrowing vine in the first beta map. it was SOOOOO hard……..:sarcasm:
Pretty sure that’s an Adventure.

Wtf is this argument? How is it supposed to be normal that playing wvw always reward less of everything compared to pve, and on top of that wvw players should be thankful because they still get something ? We already get very little reward, at least let us level our characters decently.
It’s pretty much like saying “Work is supposed to be for men so why are women complaining about being paid less. They should be happy to get anything…”.
That’s the exact same kittened up logic that starts with a wrong statement ( here “any kind of reward is meant to be primarily PvE…”).

Pretty sure this is supposed to be hero challenge now.
Why? Why would Hero Challenges have Leaderboards? What makes you think Adventures are Hero Challenges? I’ve seen no evidence of this. Can you link anything that points to this conclusion? I’m sure everyone would be interested. What level of completion will award the Hero Point? Bronze? Silver? Gold?
It just seems odd, to me, that a Hero Challenge would have levels of completion.
I think it would be cool if anet finally split off WvW as its own game type with its own auto-legendary gear so they don’t have to keep making hamfisted progression half steps, and we don’t have to keep reading threads like “well I only want to play game mode X, but have to play Y to get Z”
They need to decide if WvW is its own game mode or not. No matter what stupid half measures they institute, the overlap in PvE and WvW will continue to hurt both. You’ll still have PvE-centric farms ruining EOTM, and you’ll still have WvW players complaining they have to go do PvE until the modes are properly split off.
If you’re not going to split them off, then you need to basically take a stand and say “We consider WvW a hybrid mode, and we expect WvW players to play PvE as income, and WvW as expense.”
Currently they’re failing at both separation and integration by attempting to do half measures of both.
Can we please just cut WvW from PvE for good, and get rid of the “server selection” for “seasonal team selection” since, you know, WvW stopped mattering to PvE a long time ago, and servers stopped mattering to PvE after that… why attempt to keep this vestigial relationship between the two if you were’nt willing to stick to your guns in terms of server buffs, world completion, or a number of other places the modes interact?

Originally crafting a legendary weapon meant to play both PvE and WvW, I mainly do PvE so making badges for the Gift of Battle was really hard for me, should I have complained about it? I know that making Hero Points is another matter but I don’t understand at all why the WvWers want to never do PvE…
If I understood things correctly, fully unlocking a specialization is gonna cost 400 hero points.
- 1 hero challenge (in Maguma jungle) is gonna reward you with 10 hero points.
- In the meantime 5 WvW ranks (+150 badges) are gonna give you 10 hero points as well.Since the later takes many hours, I am wondering : are hero challenges in HoT gonna be extremely difficult and time consuming (like hours of play) or is it just gonna be a 5 to 30s thing like before and Anet throwing yet again a big “kitten you” to WvW players ?
I heard they are time gated behind certain masteries… I could be wrong though.
Edit:: This is their way of forcing players into Edge of the Mist where badges rain from the sky and everyone karma trains!

Legendaries are just some shiny toys that noone needs. I have played this game for 5k hours and don’t have a legendary because it just isn’t possible to make this kind of gold in WvW. It’s not totally fair but ok, let’s leave legendaries to people willing to heavily farm PvE. I don’t complain too much about that.
But here we’re not talking about useless stuff, we’re talking about unlocking character mechanics, skills etc… This should not be locked behind PvE grind… This system is just horrible.

No, its more like: man has to move super heavy object that woman cant move but woman wants to get paid for it the same as a man. Content was designed and relaesed for a primarily PVE role with a side map thrown in for WvW. Play the PVE part if you want it quicker. Thats all that needs to be said about it…..

True, legendaries were a bad choice for an argumentation… but why WvWers hate PvE content?

If the Hero challenges are gated behind hours and hours (and hours…) of getting Jungle Mastery XP before you can boing-or-glide your way to them the WvW path to completing them may work out to be a fairly equitable use of time.
I’m thinking about racing to get my first Dragonhunter fully unlocked and I’m expecting to do a mix of both – pick the low hanging fruit in the jungle and then use WvW to fill in the remaining harder to reach spots. Because the WvW method fill in spots at random you definitely want to do a sweep of the jungle first.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

Pretty sure you are wrong, as developers said there have been no hero challenges in the beta’s yet. So since adventures have been in the beta, that would mean adventures are not hero challenges.
I would like to play through hot using the new specializations for all of my characters, and I am not in a hurry to complete the hot content. So it seems like the best option for me is to score the necessary points in wvw / eotm, complete the specialization line, and then go back to hot content…

Hahahaha thats cute. That however does not reflect my feelings on the matter accurately. I WvW a bit so i have no hatred of that community. I was attempting to give a brutal truth as plainly as I saw it. I agree more should be done with the other styles, but however, this current xpac was not designed for that. Unfortunately the fact is, PVE is the quickest way. You will either play it and get it quicker that way, or stay in WvW and go the slow route. really, thats all that needs to be said about it… again…

PvE content is so boring…ZzzzzZzzzzzZzzzzz
