I thought it was right around 100 points for the elite. Of course, I’m basing it off the current points need for a core spec and a skill bar with 6 skills in it. Its 60 points, I believe for the trait line, and then another like 25 for the skill line. Puts us at 85 points, roughly? I think that’s perfectly fine.
Do we know if we will have new hero challenges in the HoT maps, for those that don’t desire to go grab them in the core game? I didn’t see any in the beta, but I hadn’t heard definitively that we wouldn’t either. I doubt we’d have a full 85 new ones in HoT, but I would expect at least a few.
How is it that you can suck up every skill point in the world in just a few hours? I can see it if your maps are all uncovered and all you have to do is waypoint everywhere…but what if the maps are yet to be explored?
Efficiency. If you know where they all are, or at least open a map with their locations, you can bounce from one to the next pretty quickly. Most only require ten seconds of channeling, or less in the case of “drink this” ones, and the worst might take a minute or so of clearing mobs (if you don’t have a Thief in your party) or of fighting a mini-boss mob. In general, collecting all the skillpoints is easier than getting all the vistas, and definitely much quicker than getting all the hearts. If you have a decent amount of WPs unlocked it’s even quicker.
Also, with the NPE map tracker it’s easier than ever to find SPs you might otherwise have missed.
I might have to seriously consider unlocking all these on my various characters, I hadn’t bothered to before. Kitten you Heart of Thorns, why are you giving my meaningful gameplay goals?!!!!!
spec unlock basically requires an almost full map run of skill points.
Only if you’ve already spent all the points you got from leveling up. As I said, you get 398 just from leveling, 612 in total if you also get all the SPs, you only need 250 to max an elite spec, and much of that is just in the “bonus skin unlocks.” And depending on how you want to play it, you don’t even need to unlock the whole thing. For example, Tempests really hate the Elite skill, so that’s a big chunk of points they likely won’t be spending.
you spend complaining about it on the forums, you’d be
done by now.”

One thing, if the number would take most of the Hero Points available via mapping challenges, ANet will have to add a ton of new challenges and/or new ways to get them for the second Elite Spec … if, and when …
Two things.
One, you don’t know how much they are yet. Datamined costs aren’t official, and even if that is the amount currently, there’s no saying it couldn’t be changed before launch.
Two, HoT itself will probably have a have a hefty amount of hero points available since elite specs are part of the expansion specifically. I doubt the devs want to provide everyone with these brand new elite specs as part of the expansion and then say “OK, now ignore all the HoT maps and go back and grind old maps for Hero Points so you can actually use those elite specs”.

yes they are basically introducing what is likey 190 skill points worth of grind for future specializations.
If we are lucky new areas will give more skill points per challenge

most likely they will have between 24-48 skill points, possibly less since the maps revealed didnt seem to have many.
Yes they do expect you to go back to core, and apparently the large majority of maps. Anet wants these old levels to still be relevant although you have been playing them for 3 years.
…. they are way to obsessed with making people go back to old content…

Apparently you also get item unlocks and they are woven in among the other stuff, so that pumps it up a bit.
I got all my 80’s to 100 world skill points done. Now that it looks like I might need far more, I started in on my sylvari necromancer as she’s the most likely to go ICly Reaper and I have a Thief and a Guardian with world completion. Adding 13 Hero points took a pretty darn long time, 1.5 to 2 hours (I wasn’t tracking precisely) because I had to run her around to waypoints as well. The Iron Marches have a lot of annoying cliffs, grr. I’ve been holding Orr in reserve for more points, especially as it takes quite a while to get around in there even if you do have waypoints theoretically available. And there are some in DT/SW to fill in gaps, and in extremis I can attempt WvW points.
Even if I elect to make only one alt of each profession eligible for the elite, that’s six more after the necro, at maybe nine hours each? I guess that’s a project for the next couple of months, if I don’t go frothing mad.
I think it would be very nice of ANet to give us a ballpark figure for full unlock like they did before. Sure, it turned out the +75 they said got rolled into just turning 80 … but at least I knew it as a figure, and at least it got me off my rear to really work on 14 alts worth of 100 points each. But that took out the low hanging fruit in the starter areas so the next 100 points each is going to be much sludgier.
This sounds like a complaint, I know, but at most it’s a mild one. I like opening up map areas on my alts, I enjoy PvE, and I’ve deliberately leveled my alts that way rather than with tomes so I’m willing to take my time in the world. If I didn’t, well, omg. I feel a great deal of empathy for those who don’t!
This is interesting, I just looked at my Hero Points on my Berserker I made today during the BWE. Now, I’ve run all over the place with her, done events, leveled mastery, so I don’t know what she started with (it might be the same, I doubt she was earning HP) but with everything unlocked she was at 398 HP. Probably that is because they unlocked everything gratis but it’s still possibly worth noting.
you motherkitteners need to stop whining, and don’t be lazy. go earn your elites specs….
Archeage = Farmville with PK
The new skills and traits shouldn’t be earned with the old hero points. Something like a unique quest chain for each profession with LORE would be so much better.
To play WvW seriously you have to be level 80 and play PvE content (at least the first time) and I think a not too long quest chain wouldn’t hurt most WvW players.
I think that would be great, a quest chain explaining about the new spec and how your character gains access to the skills. But its also quite a lot of work with very little replay value – remember thats 9 seperate chains they need to design and make up and a lot of people will not see all of them.
In a world with no restrictions of time I would love it though.
