I finally pre-purchased HoT and was very excited about being part of the beta testing. The excitement however was soon deflated when I discovered that none of the rewards earned while testing are saved to my account. To me this kind of made the time invested…well…worthless. There was no point in trying it out for the good of Anet, searching for bugs or stress crashes when there is no reward for participating. I mean, really, that is one of the feature points of pre-purchase. Even if the rewards were stored until the games live launch, would be better than it just disappearing.

No reward for participating? The reward is so we can all have a better/improved game with less issues or do you want tons and tons of issues on release day?

The point of beta testing is, oh, you guessed it, TESTING!
It’s pretty self-explanatory too, and all weekend long you had a warning about it on the top of the screen. Beta testing is to find any issues, and report them. It is a mere simulation(or close to it) of the to-be-live version.

TL;DR It’s not supposed to be played, it’s supposed to be tested.

This is how all betas work for games. They aren’t meant to carry over since the only purpose is feedback and bug testing – something plenty of players have used it for. If it offered rewards, then it would be an early access and provide an unwarranted advantage up to 3 months before launch.

Plus, rewards change. What if rewards dropped that development and feedback meant that thy were changed? Things would be immensely difficult to sort out.

Also it was fun.

Provided you weren’t looking to play a druid or raid.

The whole point of BETA for players is to test out x items x events generally anything that needs testing by the company.
The reward is sometimes a title otherwise the reward is the fact players were able to get their hands on something before going live.

Seems like you never understood what BETA really meant.
Now you do.
So be thankful

We are heroes. This is what we do!

This is nothing new. None of our progress in the original rounds of Beta were saved. Why should it be different now?

That being said, I would like to have kept some of the stuff I picked up. But I knew what I signed up for, so I’m not going to complain.
