HoT Failures: Guilds
I don’t want tons of green runes and sigils piling up, endlessly, in my personal bank and I’m certainly not going to be listing them, one by one, on the TP.
Vendor them.
pve, raid, pvp, fractal, dungeon, world clearing, legendary questing.. Zapped!
I tried to remake my personal bank guild around when HoT came out (wanted a different name/tag/etc), and found that I simply couldn’t do it, thanks to the system of guild upgrading being completely changed…
Between that and the upgrades I did have being now locked behind the guild hall, along with the cost of upgrading….I have no interest in guild related content now (granted, I had barely any to begin with, but this finally killed any potential for me to want to bother with it).
Personal banks from guilds are still possible. Its 50 gold. without guild hall for the first 50 slots. Sure the other 200 are behind guild level 20 and 32, but saying it’s impossible is not true at all.
The argument that Guilds fail because they dont have your nearly free 5 banktabs is pretty ridiculous though. Obviously gaming the system to not having to buy more bag space or bankslots.
You’re not looking for a better guild system at all. You just want more storage space. That’s all it really is to you, then you don’t have a better guild system at interest.
Plus if that’s your reason to stop playing, then I think thats pretty silly. Just buy a few bank tabs instead. They recently increased the cap on those.
Very little reason to complain in my opinion.

Hey,
The only incentive was skins and if you didn’t like the skin, well you didn’t have any reason to care about it.You are playing the wrong game. And maybe with the wrong guild.
In my guild there are about 230 people, of which about 30-40 are pretty active, so business as usual.
We maxed out everything yesterday. World first. One of the world firsts at least.
Nobody ever demanded anything from any of us. Boss-man would update us on what was needed and each contributed however much they wanted. Then a couple of other guildies went crazy and decorated the place and now it looks awesome, I mean, we have a Chinese Garden kind of thing going (we call it “Beer Garden”), we have arcs, our guild initials on the walls, it’s awesome! We also had a jumping puzzle that led to a part of the map that wasn’t even finished by Anet, I spent maybe an hour just exploring that.
As for the raids – what exactly did you want? To shower you with money? You have legendary armor, you have skins and exclusive minnies to show off. If you want a gear treadmill, I suggest you play some other game. Because that’s not what GW2 is about.
The GH was not a resounding success, but it was NOT a failure.
in order to max out everything with a scew of 20-30 active players… each player will have to donation 2 legendary worth of material and that is just stupid.
Feed the Merlion… before the Merlion feed on YOU!
the real failure of guild hall is the lack of functionality, even when fully upgraded, they don’t provide all the services you find in a town, so everyone will still hang out in towns and the guild hall remains useless. it is the lack of basic functionality even when fully upgraded that is stupid.

Yeah, the guild halls are basically worthless for any practical purpose beyond gathering nodes and using the scribing station as a poor man’s bank, and there’s such a ridiculous amount of unused space in them for some reason.
I’m in a large guild with everything maxed. They’re anything but worthless. They are too large however. You can do a LOT with guild decorations and my guild is full of wonders (none of which I made.. ) but it didn’ t need to be the size of a whole map.
If you can’t see the point of a guild and prefer a city, up to you. I have heard people saying that cities are largely useless now thanks to guild halls so ymmv.

Guild halls aren’t a great central meeting place that really brings people together. Nor is it designed to be a place that allows for a ton of user creativity. It’s a prefabricated map that is 100% gold sink and allows for minimal creativity. That’s not attractive.
I believe that home instances should have been developed instead and allowed for maximum creativity and function. The devs could have sold design packs on the gem store to make money and for a gold sink, instead of mixing it up directly with the economy.
221 hours over 1,581 days of bank space/hot pve/lion’s arch afk and some wvw.

Ours is heavily used.
Individually it’s so handy to press g, hop to guild hall, empty bags, pick up boosts, harvest, press g and end up back where you started.
We run guild missions three times a week so meet up there and use the portal.
We will be starting guild pvp shortly so it will be the place to be for that as well soon.
As for creativity, ours is amazing, we have several guildie made jumping puzzles that were pumpkins and clouds and now there’s a whole Sab themed thing going on.
Why would you want to buy design packs with gems when you could do what our guild has done? That would just lead to a pay to decorate situation.

I would like to mention one resounding Guild Hall success (at least imo) — no upkeep costs. What you build you keep for as long as the guild exists. No monthly taxes, no crumbling infrastructure if you don’t keep repairing it, none of the bs that other games inflict on housing.
This was a key point of discussion in the Guild Hall CDI and this part, at least, they got right. I fervently hope that any revamp to make the halls more fun and less of a money pit keeps that aspect.

If you dont see how a largely empty map can’t be seen as an empty drawing board then i dunno what to tell you.
There is loads of space and loads of material to play with. A fully empty map would have been bad. Not everyone has the materials to fill it. and a full map obviously is too full.
So yes it IS designed for alot of creativity. If you don’t see that. then that probably means you lack the creativity.

Then Raids came out. We did them for a couple of weeks. Then we realized that they didn’t have that good rewards. People didn’t want to do them again, they had no reason too. They had no reason to practice when they could just go do world bosses or vinewrath and get just as good as rewards.
This pretty much sums up raids for me, too. Even if I wanted to gear out better than I am, the rewards just don’t motivate me to finish them.
HoT is about group playing. Meta events is just failure because where plenty issues by getting in same mega server with you friends and guild-mates. Like I am casual player and everyone comes to age when more time you spend at work and with family then you have time to play game. I think everyone have to be rewarded. What I would love to have that Guild events challenge would scale by how many players are in party or squad. Influence system is a better way than gold and reason why because I don’t take from players that they earned in game. That they earned in game is belong to them.
Influence it was unique system in MMO and that why GW 2 was so unique comparing with other games. I liked more vanilla than HoT (except Gliding, Elite skills and Mastery system). If some doesn’t have where to spend gold so they can add option to buy influence by donating gold or materials.
Probably I would love to see in future Guild story quest. That will make more interested to upgrading guild by doing Guild story missions and it will bring more guild players to play together. By building new building from story you will learn about characters and building and background. Also guild could have random missions like go and rescue NPC (also it could on random location on maps) / go and rescue village from attackers or even defend or invade cities / defend you guild hall and so on.
Guild Halls provide almost zero benefits for their huge cost and time sinks.
I can use a portal.. oh wait I have Waypoints already. I can farm some mats… that will never recoup the cost of the node. I can craft some Weapons/Armor… that are frankly both boring and too expensive (Crystalline Ore). I can pvp in a tiny Arena… that uses PvE stats…
Seriously my guild is basically dead at this point. We had a ton of people come back and play the XPack, we upgraded our guild hall, did raids for a couple months and then over the last month or so everyone just quit logging in. Nothing in this expansion has added any lasting content or need to keep playing. Guild Halls were supposed to add systems to keep the guild playing together and doing content. WHY DID THEY ADD ZERO NEW THINGS FOR GUILDS TO DO TOGETHER!!
ANet time and again misses the basics in pursuit of some lofty design ideal.
Guilds are incredibly cheap to level. If you disagree then you simply don’t know how to make/manage money, have a very small group that doesn’t qualify as a guild or are with people that aren’t willing to sacrifice for the groups greater good. My guild has maxed 2 guild halls so far. No drama, no massive gem purchases, no lack of sleep or martial law and with less than 100 people we had fun doing it.

Your feelings and experiences are not the same as others. Criticizing them because they are not the same is wrong.
Well the obvious problem he is saying but not considering with his “incredibly cheap” argument which is subjective to the max is “greater good”.
Anyone that actually read the other opinions should be able to see that the goods aren’t considered to be greater at all. At least not for the costs.
Not to mention that there is an apparent size that isn’t qualifying as a guild by his own standards, and not the game’s standard.
So pretty much thinking within his own guilds capabilities. Fair enough. But very limited of value to everyone else.

What I said is wrong, but saying that an entire feature is a failure because your group couldn’t do it is right? Roger.

The difference is that you attacked another poster over it.
Your feelings and experiences are not the same as others.
Oh, but they are.
Criticizing them because they are not the same is wrong.
And yet, everyone does this. ^^

Not everyone. lol
Wh—?? I thought we were on the same side! ^^
Anyway, I was just trying to make a point. I only generalized to illustrate that point. He was criticizing someone else who was also criticizing. But his own criticism contained the supposed fault of the person he himself was criticizing. Sorry for banter.

Okay. Fair enough.
So, word of the day – criticize.
It was good banter. However, I do appreciate the people on the forum that don’t make a habit of doing this. It’s a pet peeve of mine when people tell others how they feel, tell them what they think or should think, whether or not they should talk, and make wild assumptions that were never stated and can’t be logically concluded from what was said. I guess that was my ultimate point.

How many people exactly? “Less than a hundred” is a bit ambiguous.
