HoT Grindfest?
You expected it to be all handed out to you? My mind is blown.
I sure as hell didn’t expect to play the same thing over and over again just to get so little in return. That was not the case with the core game
I expected the elite trait line to cost the same as other trait lines. After all the elite is no better than regular professions. The mastery system is what should take a lot of time.

i can’t comment on the elite specs, I haven’t even looked at them yet.
As for masteries, I agree they should take A LOT of time (they are account bound) but my complaint with them is that you are forced to do certain masteries to continue the story and even to obtain skill points even though you can reach them without.
Masteries themselves are very well designed and I like them, but the way they are used to gate the story… I have never felt as frustrated while playing the game as I did when I realied they were needed for the story.

You do realize theres a middleground between “too grindy” and “i want everything right now”, right?
good lord. dense.
Things are not too grindy at all. Im already 70% done with my elite spec being unlocked and I’ve played for 5 hours between 2 days, I don’t understand how people are having problems with this. The mastery system is great, THIS isn’t a grind, its progression through maps that you will eventually get by just progressing through the maps naturally. It blows me away what people mistake as grind, there is no grind, just play the game and do the content, you will get there eventually and its ACCOUNT bound so once is good enough.

Glass half full, empty argument I guess really. To me, it seems very unorganized and I actually have map complete on my Guardian. It was pretty much a no brainer. Create a character, follow the hearts through the zone, get required POI, vistas, and JPs, then progress to the next similar level zone. Repeat.
Silverwaste seems to be more unorganized or chaotic. To me anyway. Maybe I’m just too old, but I’ve spent about 3 hours so far and just finished gliding 1, one vista, and 2 POI’s. In this sense, it seems a bit much. I have 23 points to my Rangers name and need 60 to unlock the staff… I see stuff all over the map, hero points, green ticks, but there really isn’t anything with an overlay or pointer to say start here, go there, and do X, Y, and Z along the way.
Just some stilly killing of NPC’s that are in my way while I run around trying to make heads or tales out of it. So yeah, frustrated a bit and almost willing to say forget it and go back to WvW.
Oh, and no gliding in WvW? Seriously?
Oh, one more thing. New map x3? Bad call. Should have replaced EBG with new map and leave others connected for supply chain stuff.

I agree that the grinding is unreal. But I disagree that this isn’t fun, for the most part. I love gliding. I love bouncing on mushrooms. I just wish I could do these things with the elite spec I’ve waited for months to get. I also wish that mastery points were the only gate and exp wouldn’t factor in … at all.
This QQ was better when it was people complaining HoT only had 4 maps and not enough content.
HoT doesn’t have enough content. That’s why they padded it with grind. What’s surprising is how many people are eating it up.

I guess their opinion about what they like about the game is different than yours.

And you had zone completion in the old world, right?
I had 100 spare hero points, and after playing for 7 hours I finally finished getting skilly I-III, and then realized its 25 for my first actual, non-healing skill. At which point I quit. I need 3 kitten hero points. I’m at 5-11 on the first map, and they are all pretty much gated past that. (Do I play follow the commander tag for 3 more hours for the story, or to try to grab more HP so I can play the story like I want?).
I think I’m going to quit (or just play my lowbie Rev, without using my tomes because the sooner you hit 80 the sooner I’m forced to quit playing) until there is a 100% HP walkthrough. I refuse to play the story, until I can play it Reaper.
Anet’s idea of a lot of content is to make it tediously long and boring. It just seems like more content.
They do get a lot of things right. Look at the ClockTower.
When it comes to the stuff they make grindy though, I’ve seen people have more fun after hours on pokies.

I predicted this a long time ago…
yea I’m betting Elite Specs will cost about as many Hero Points as all other traits combined.
I just KNEW they would do something like that…
You expected it to be all handed out to you? My mind is blown.
Always has to be one that just doesn’t get it. Always.
Don’t worry. There is no level grind guys! And the mastery system is totally not a new level system. Totally not.
I mean I understand it can be confusing because your mastery level… err rank, takes over on your character info rather than your level… But it’s totally not new levels.
Even though the storyline makes you grind out some leve….ranks before you can progress.
Not levels!

Never thought of it that way. Masteries are like levels. You can’t get a trait point unless you hit a certain Level…and in this case Masteries = Levels! Brilliant. Puts that into perspective.
It’s definitely no longer the casual friendly MMO it once was, a complete 180 in philosophy.
Remeber when we had to use weapons and exp them up just to unlock skills? It was removed, removed for good reason. Yet now HoT just took that to a new and epic level in grind. I play f2ps that are less grindy than this, how exactly is that possible.
They should put a 400 hero point pack in the cash shop, I am darned certain it will sell by the 1000s in the first minute.
its bad when in hot zones is no dungeon or anything for leveling masteries you need grind milions and milions exp by events what reward you lower exp reward that normal mob killing they need put people leveling hot masteries in core maps

Yep. There are always going to be close minded simpletons that can’t see another perspective because something is “fine” to them. You’re asking people who don’t think to think. Unfortunately for those of us with legitimate complaints, it makes it harder to actually get that feedback to the developer. That’s the funny part to me. All of these simpletons actually hurt the game they love by blindly following it. But hey, whatever, this cash cow still keeps investors happy.

If you want to play an “actual MMO” there are much much better ones. I dont tho, thats why most ppl love GW2 Anet seems to have forgotten that.

That depends on what your definition of a casual player is…which is the biggest issue, but this is probably the best definition that people should use(not the dictionary definition): a casual player is someone that doesn’t care how long it takes them to complete or do any one specific task in a game and they can do that task at any time of the day or night to suit their schedule(all of which you can do in HoT, even solo)…of course that’s just my opinion, but I’m sticking with it.
As for the remainder of the complaints, look at the achievement panel for HoT(not the story one, the general one), then tell me you have to repeat events over and over ad nauseam to get the different levels in each Mastery Track…you can conceivably complete events in all 3 zones to do just that, not just the first zone, and not have to repeat the same ones dozens of times.
Yeah it is pretty grindy.
Everything else has been top notch so far.
But yeah…the grind is real.
Yes, the grind is real. The rep grind is the worst. I think they have lost there way listening to former wow players instead of continuing their own very successful game.

+1 can’t believe how many white knights are defending ANet on this debacle. I guess none of them played GW1 or followed this game in development.
“No-grind philosophy! We don’t make grindy games!”
