Hi, So, I was wondering, we all know that they will make Guild Halls available when HoT comes out, but, is there going to be Guild Battles? Guild vs Guild or Guild War kind of thing? because the weirdest thing i find about GW2 that its called Guild Wars and it have no actual guild vs guild mechanic, we all like guilds, or most of us, and we all want something like that, alliances between guilds, leaderboard of guild’s ranking, guild battles and wars, and this kind of things, so are these things going to be available with the new expansion coming out? or ever going to be available?

The name Guild Wars is based on lore not game-play.

We do however get a Guild Ladder with HoT and Stronghold, which looks quite a bit like the Guild versus Guild mode of Guild Wars 1.

Interestingly enough there are more actual guild wars in this game than there ever was in the original.

I know the lore, but I have to say that is the most disappointing and weak excuse not to have GvG honestly. The title of something should reflect it’s core nature, not some obscure reference from it’s backstory. They call it Lord of the Rings, not Gimli’s Favorite Ale.

Honestly expecting people not to think about wars between guilds when faceblasting the title GUILD WARS into their face is mindboggling. When people read a game title they expect it to reflect the gameplay of that game, not some distant piece of lore from the previous game.

No one never said this game shouldn’t have GvG. All we said was that the title does not refer to GvG. Because everytime someone asks for GvG they say “The game is called Guild Wars, ergo it should have gvg”, every single time.

So I suppose its true the title doesn’t demand GvG, but it does suggest something. Either there should be warring guilds in the living world, or there should be GvG, or there should be some kind of guild conflict somewhere in the game. Right now all we have is guilds cooperating to fight dragons, and small teams of friends fighting in pvp matches, and maybe some guilds fighting each other in the Mist War (wvw) but it’s server-based, not guild-based.

I think it would go a long way toward making sense and pleasing audiences if they continue to develop more Stronghold maps and add maybe a guild leaderboard for it. Really what it comes down to is creating a competitive space for guilds who like that sort of thing. Also they could introduce more conflict between lore guilds in the living world. I’m talking about Destiny’s Edge fighting some other guild, or maybe the Vigil fighting the Priory. Just an example.

Yes, it suggested, that the Guild Wars was supposed to be a mostly pvp game originally. Mind You, that’s the original Guild Wars game i am talking about, and even for it PvP took a second seat to PvE very fast after launch. In GW2, the name no longer suggests anything beyond it being a part of preexisting franchise.

I’m dying to know what percentage of players actually particapted in GvG in Guild Wars 1 as a total.

I’m guessing that GvG had a very hard core base, but it wasn’t a majority of the player base. If it was, it would exist here…that’s my theory anyway.

This.

GvG was a super fun mode, but the hardcore PvP crowd revolved around the HoH ladder, and Anet never added any of the originally planned functionality to guild halls or GvG (early on there was talk of customizing the hall’s defenses and other such functional GvG upgrades)

In fact, my one fear about guild halls in GW2 is that they’re just as useless as they were in the first game. Just giant set pieces devoid of content or purpose outside of their use as GvG arenas.

Without GvG even being a thing, my fear is that guild halls will be even less useful than the first game. I don’t want to see another system where all you’re able to put together is a big empty structure with the same vendors you can already find easily in any major city in the game.

I think I participated in GvG…..maybe twice?… in my 7+ yr playing of GW1.

GvG seemed to be a very niche mode. Fun to watch though. Of course, I enjoyed watching HoH too. Couldn’t play it for beans, but I enjoyed watching.

Don’t look at me like that. Whatever you’ve heard, it’s probably not true.

Has there been any info yet on what is going to be required to get a guild hall? I am hoping they start putting some details out soon. Really looking forward to it

Well they could make Bloodstone Bricks more useful and require you to physically contribute these to the building of your guild hall. 100,000 for a tower.. <Evil Laugh>

Concerning guild halls I think we will see them host content in the game like guild raids. I think customizing them will be horizontal progression(cosmetic upgrades etc.). I think we will get access to dungeons and fractals from them. I’d be interested if there will be special attention given to Stronghold from Guild Halls where you can issue challenges to other guilds to play that format. This is all speculation on my part, but they definitely seem more interested in guild halls having function over being a place for people to hang out.

They seem really concerned with keeping hubs populated instead of letting people hang out away from map chat which can get pretty ridiculous.

I wish that they would understand that customizing our guild halls with our own creativity and housing is a big deal too. People like that sort of thing more than I think it gets credit for.

While I don’t expect to be able to achieve everything a big guild can, I do hope basic access to guild halls is within reasonable reach of tiny (five person) guilds.

I don’t know the exact percentages, only Anet knows those, but I’m positive GvG was a lot more popular during the first years and gradually less and less people played it. But at release, and during the first year maybe GvG was super popular and a huge percentage of the population played.

I remember very well there were 1492 Guilds participating in the Guild Wars Factions Tournament back in 2005. That’s a good number of guilds for sure!
