Do you thnk Anet will add a button to give us control over when Heart of Thorns will download to our computers?

I don’t mind waiting till saturday or sunday to download my pre-purchased copy, but i want to play the Halloween material Friday night. I’m afraid that there will so many people downloading an HoT/Halloween combo download that there will be login errors due to the volume of people logging in. I’d rather not miss 2 or 3 days of Halloween because i have to wait my turn to download HoT in the same information transfer.

I’m pretty sure there is not two separate clients, nor downloads. Thus, there will be no ‘button’.

HoT is just a patch over the normal client. You can’t NOT download it. Everyone who wants to log in to GW2 after HoT releases will have to download that patch, regardless of whether or not you’ve purchased HoT.

I admit I am hoping we get a partial pre-push today just to lighten the load for everyone on Friday. <cross fingers>.

Presumably, though, once it’s downloaded all the core changes (which in themselves may take quite some time) the game will pass the “Playable” marker, and you can play as normal while it downloads HoT in the background. If you try to enter a Halloween-specific zone such as the Labrynth I would guess it’ll then prioritise the download of that zone so that you can enter.

Consider parking your alts outside of L.A. in a zone that doesn’t see much halloween activity, like Southsun. L.A. in particular, but presumably also the lower level zones too, will see changes and require additional downloaded content before they let you in. If you log in whilst in a zone like Southsun and try to move to L.A. it should then ask you if you want it to download in the background, or if you want to sit on the loading screen, so you always have a choice.

i dont know if this means anything, but because of the beta we might already have the first map and the specialisations downloaded. this could mean that we only need to downloade very little before we can enter HoT and that we can downloade the other stuff in the background, this would mean that it would take some time to downloade the maps we have not seen, but that we can start playing relativly fast after release,

yea i do hope for a prepush today or some time before the 23rd even if the data is encrypted or such don’t feel like staying up till launch at 2:01 am central just to get the dl over night.

If they were to let people download the rest before it went live, I wouldn’t expect them to do it until Thursday.

I wonder how much more there is left to download. We already have quite a bit downloaded. It would be nice to have the rest downloaded before hand and have a tiny patch to remove the barriers at release.
