Just finished final story last night. Have to say it was pretty exhausting. I didn’t read any guides or anything before trying it, which is why it took me at least 6 or 7 tries to finish. Literally spent hours. Even on a perfect play through (not going to happen unless you read a guide or have done it a few times), from start to finish I can’t imagine anyone not spending at least an hour or more to complete the whole thing.

The problem for me is the extremely long length of the Mordremoth fight, and if you die during the glide phase (because it bugs or you don't know how to get into the air) you MUST start at the very beginning of the fight and start all over again. Seriously, this part takes waaaaaayyyy too long. How is an average casual player supposed to figure this out and complete it (and not die at least once), along with the next part which is also a bit tough, in any kind of decent time period?

Other than the way too overly long Mordremoth fight, the rest of the mission seemed great, aside from a bug or two. I definitely appreciate the work put into the player choices before going into the dream and the dream transition videos and artwork which were amazing.

I don’t expect the final story to be easy, but I’d rather it be challenging and SHORT, instead of overly long.

I haven’t finished the final story. My problem so far has been bugs. 3 times now in the dream it has bugged out and I have to start all over again. Just don’t have the time to waste on it until it is fixed. I may see if some guildies want to try this weekend. Having additional people, I have heard, helps a lot.

The bugs in the final fight are more likely to happen if you die and have to restart that part, which can’t be fixed without restarting the fight again.

It’s been bugged like this since HoT went live, I don’t expect to see a fix for it until after they finish releasing raids.

If you die during the final fight, I’ve found waiting about half a minute or so before hitting the mote makes the reset bug less likely to happen.

The story, too long? No. The final fight? Yes. And buggy.

Also, the ending was rather abrupt. I found myself thinking “was that it?” at first.

I personally felt the story portion was too short. It raised way more questions than it answered, and some of what it was supposed to answer are old questions that started in Central Tyria. I would have much preferred it if we were able to successfully rescue most of the captives, regroup, analyze the situation, find more clues on Mordy, and then challenge him. Story felt too rushed.

Maps are lovely. I like that I can get lost in them.

Gameplay felt arduous on some stretches. Masteries were taking a long time to gain the exp from, and some of the mastery points are really hard to get to. Some stretches of jungle are just a slog to get through, and even lethal for some classes. (I had a hard time with elementalist when facing off Coztic and Smokescales. CC Chains are too strong x_X) And like the guy in the OP, the restart-on-death boss fight was kind of painful. Doesn’t really help that the mental avatar of Mordy looks more like a fat, shell-less Bowser as someone out there put it, than a dragon that I should be afraid of.

Could have done with him being a bit more persistent and invasive for the Sylvari too.

I am totally Sylvari trash.

Yeah, the Mordremoth fight is cool, but it’s way too long (and that’s if you don’t die and have to do the whole thing again from the beginning).

Also, nobody tuned the Blighted Pale Tree fight for solo players at all. Being knocked down literally every second or two is fun, right?

Probably trying to make the fight feel epic with length, but that’s only one (overused) way to make something feel epic and it barely works here because you die and start over in such an immersion-breaking way. I think it would actually feel more epic if, instead of being ported into the penalty box when you die, some lore-explained moment happens where one of the assistant apparition thingies uses their special powers on you and brings you back into the fight. After all, it’s a mind fight. Normal rules need not apply.

Yeah, it’d be a tad cheesy, but I feel like it’d actually make more sense and feel more engaging than the jarring “you die, you’re ported into a totally mechanical, unfeeling, and obviously game design geometrical box space where you can choose to try again.” All the current thing is missing is a sign that says, “Insert coin to continue.”

Or words to that effect.

The fight itself should only take about 20-30 minutes. Maybe 1-2 hours if u need a few attempts or it bugs once. Honestly had more trouble with the evil eir miniboss.

Here’s a guide if you need help. Shows exactly what to dodge and look for as well as writes it out for you instead of just watching trying to figure out whats going on.

Agreed. Also the zhaiten dungeon isn’t exactly short either. At least this is an epic battle compared to a long dungeon with an anticlimactic boss fight.

Took me mayb 1.5 hours, I had to restart the fight about 5-6 times due to bug and first not knowing what to do. Also after knowing what to do I got hit by his stupid rocks several times, which aren’t always easy to dodge and/or are just kittenty visualized/clunky to dodge.

But never 6 hours, my god, dude what the hell Also the fight itself takes only 10-15mins.

I actually made it first try. But I wasn’t running a zerker build, so I could do quite a lot of mistakes withhout immediately failing … I even failed the first air phase and still survived.

The boss itsself has just a tiring amount of HP. The fight takes ways too long in my opinion, even as a full zerker (did it with a full zerker character too, It was a lot harder then and I died two times.)

But at least the Zhaitan fight had a grander/epic scale to it (even though the fight itself was boring, since it was just push 1). That fight seemed more epic than this fight.

I didn’t enjoy the last chapter because it bugged when rift-ing the 4th NPC mordre summoned(in my case tybalt) so I had to restart. But this coming from a pure damage burnzerk with literally a passive 389 heal/second as sustain, the chapter didn’t take more than 45 mins, 0 deaths(both runs), nothing ever took me by surprise, mechanics were easy as hell, even the thing where you have to fly was extremely forgiving(like 5 seconds before he starts casting- and he doesn’t even 1hit you, you got like 4-10 more seconds to take flight depending on health pool). His damage was very low(800-1800 hits every – wait, almost never).
So yeh, I gotta disagree about “not knowing what to do”. I suppose it’s because I got ~12 years of gaming behind me that made every single step in this chapter predictable.
But I agree about the lenght, because many(myself included) experienced bugs that needed restarting, so having to restart a 45 min fight after being 30 mins into it – it’s just a giant pain

I tried the final fight a 6 or 7 times now, on normal mode I finished once. I had 1 group disband on me and 5 times mostly DIFFERENT bugs with characters not appearing or mordremoth staying invulnerable

I made parties gathering 5 ppl and bug … and bug again…

I do not mind a glitch once every 3-6 weeks in a dungeon but this is reciulous, in dungeons I had 99% good runs, here I have had 15% succes…

And not even through own error, just to buggy programming and flawed mechanics.

I tried it on hard mode 2 times as well, 2 times I got past the flying phase and the 3rd character only to be bugged out. Which is truly cause for migraines.

23 lvl 80’s, 9 times map, 4ele, 4ncr, 3war, 3grd, 3rgr, 2thf, 2msm, 1eng, 1 rev.
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.

I’d have liked it better if there were some basic changes to the fight:

1. Your friends don’t get locked out of the fight if they die.
2. There were distinct phases and death would take you to a the beginning of that particular phase as opposed to the beginning of the entire fight.

These 2 things would have made the instance more enjoyable for me. I experienced multiple bugs while doing the fight and it was pretty miserable, as I redid it around 5 or 6 times before I could complete it. I don’t even really want to do it on alts and that’s fairly unusual for me.

This, please!

I’ve tried it several times, and I keep dying. And restarting. And dying. And restarting. I know an Elementalist is squisy, so I have to play defensively, which means my kill speeds are not all that great. But… restarting the entire fight each time? NO.

I give up. Modremoth wins. As far as I’m concerned, the GW2 story ends here.

There are great ideas here, but the execution is awful. I play games to have fun. This is not fun.

Lol wtf? It takes about 5-10 mins to kill him. And yes, I also had some problems back then and got killed/bugged out. But I managed to solo do it within about 45-60mins for all tries. I don’t knwo, do you use a kitten build or crap gear? Just go ful zerker or viper’s and play ranger or something casual easy. Shouldn’t be much of a thing.

I thought the story part was maybe a little short. But, the boss fight was so long it was boring. You were constantly grinding through hit points using impossible-to-learn mechanics. I had to read the wiki before I made it through.

But, they DID fix some stuff. You can actually see the updrafts now, at least from the ground. 3D still sucks royally when the bombs are hitting you during that last flying phase; it’s just impossible to make it through without a significant amount of pure dumb luck.

I think that needs some more detail, since most people here will have a hard time understanding how that could happen. I cannot imagine a setup that would lead to this result. How often did you have to restart the fight? There is something weird you did and I’m curious what is was.

I think this is just a learning curve thing. I’ve completed this fight 3 times (once for myself, and twice for two friends), and whilst I’ve yet to die once (zerk tempest), both of friends did manage to die at the updraft parts and neither are bad players. It is somewhat easy to get struck out the sky, and if you’ve not got the best handle on your classes defensive skills/healing, it’s easy to die.

If you’re struggling, just try to practice how to recover from damage, and make sure you build accordingly (getting knocked down and murdered? stun breaks. Condi doing you in? condi cleanse. Taking far too long to dps? fix your gear/traits for more dps).

Seeing yourself improve is one of the more fun experiences! I’m sure you’ll get there.
