Guild Wars 2

As the title says. I’m probably either asking the dumbest question in the world, or am simply overlooking the most obvious answer, or something.

I’ve played through the story on 3 characters now, and I’m honestly getting a bit burned out on it.

I’d like to take future alts into the HoT maps without having to play through it/the first part again, to fully unlock their elites before I do anything else with them. Is that actually possible? I can take my lvl 80 alts to the portal in the Silverwastes, but the portal to Verdant Brink itself is X’d out. Short of using Teleport to Friend to unlock at least the first waypoint in the HoT maps, which I’m not even sure works, is there another way to actually go there?

( And before anyone points it out, I know playing through the first part doesn’t take long. I just find it a bit weird that those maps apparently are inaccessible without jumping through that particular hoop. )

I used that portal to get all my alts to VB before even playing the first episode.

I think you do need to play the very first story mission to enter the HoT maps. That takes literally 10 minutes though, it’s just a first bit where you walk through the SW and go through.

You can enter the HoT maps through the guild hall.

I think that you only have to do the Story Journal entry Prologue: Rally to Maguuma once per account? You can definately get to Verdant Brink from a portal in Silverwastes after that.

I did the Rally to Maguuma episode on my Ranger and Mesmer before I found the portal – all my other characters have just gone through the portal in Silverwastes to get to the HoT maps and none of them have done any of the story at all.

I may have already unlocked their specialization skill trees with proofs of heroics from WvW though.

You can get in through the guild hall, if nothing else. People have gotten very low level chars on the maps that way. Using the Gilded Hollow guild portal allows you to jump to Auric Basin and bypass Verdant Brink entirely (and get low level Rangers to the juvenile bristlebacks pets).

You can use the Lost Precipe Guild hall as well. As soon as you leave the zone, the Shipwreck Peak waypoint will be opened automatically.

My level 7 thief is parked in verdant brink. I just went brisbane>silverwastes>verdant brink. Walked there. absolutely no requirements. Just go one waypoint at a time, because being low level aggros mobs from a fairly long distance.

I just took a level 80 char that had NOT done the 1st HoT story part straight into VB about 2 days ago. I just went thru the portal. Not sure why I was able to do this, but I was and I did.

I just tested this on my level 10 keyfarmer (no story at all or proofs of heroics etc).
I went through Metrica Province > Brisban Wildlands > Silverwastes (as Raizen said above) and straight through the portal and into Verdant Brink.

I’m not sure why the portal isn’t working for you.

Huh, okay. I didn’t know that portal may not work due to events in the area. I took my lvl 45 Ranger there just now, and yeah, it does work. I tried doing the same a couple of days ago with a different lvl 80 character and it did not work – there was an event going on at the time.
