HoT has already been on sale quite a few times already from other official retailers. Just a few days ago for example, funstockdigital.co.uk had it for ~35% off, though it only lasted about a day. They still have it for 25% off actually, if you use the promo code OCT-COUPMAIL-PRE25.

It has been about 270 days since the expansion was announced. If someone started saving at that point, they would only need to save about 19 cents a day.

I’m not defending bad behavior. What I am doing is arguing against how it is so expensive that the impact of the price for someone who is strapped for cash couldn’t save money over time. There’s also no harm in saving money each day. If they chose not to buy the expansion, they could’ve used the money on something else.

I know right, HOT will end up costing a full half of what i pay for internet every month! So expensive! Though I guess people who live in a magical land where high speed internet is under $10 per month wouldnt agree….

Also, to reiterate what others said, its very unlikely anet will sell it themselves on sale til at least next summer if not next fall for the 1 yr anniversary (I dont remember any official sales on the base game before at least a year passed, but i could be wrong). You can find it cheaper somewhere else but make sure its a legit site, if its some shady gold selling site the odds of getting scammed arent worth saving 20 bucks.

Computer gaming is an expensive hobby… It is safe to assume that people here are relatively well off. Not everyone can afford to go $50 over budget out of the blue though, just because you are well off doesn’t mean you have a lot of expendable money, however we’ve known about this game for a while now and there is such a thing as saving up. A know many people who set aside money each paycheck so that they could buy the game. I preordered a long time ago because I knew I wouldn’t be able to afford it now.

I was just asking for the name of the company. I don’t think it’s against ToS to list only the name and especially since I’ve seen people name off Steam, GameStop, etc.

It’s really up to you if you want to or not. There’s nothing that either of us can gain by continuing this anyway.

Has this been confirmed?

I’ve been posting off and on since HoT was announced asking about this, but have never seen an official response.

At the moment, my plan is to wait until HoT comes down to a price that matches the value I think I’ll get from it, but if that means I’ll have to retroactively pay to get access to all LS chapters released after tomorrow, I’m done with GW2.

I’m okay with logging in to my vanilla account during each LS update in the future to make sure they will be there when I finally get HoT.

I agree some people are dismissive but GW2 is still the best value for money on entertainment I think. As a student I have not bought any other games or such extravagances over the last few years while having good access to entertainment.

HoT was announced over 10 months ago, I started saving a few pounds a week and then bought my basic copy during the summer, the price really isn’t an issue even for cash strapped unless you didn’t notice for the last 10 months it was on its way.

I bought the expansion to support the game and also to experience whatever content was put forth. I could buy gems, but the expansion to me is another step in the direction the game will advance forth to, so I want to be there for better or for worse. While the game is not perfect, it definitely has provided sufficient value over time. Personally, I think even if the game is “alright” it would be worth it. It’s a bit more than “alright” though.

There is no doubt I could probably save a few bucks buying somewhere down the road but it’s not going to be the same. This is why I didn’t mind the base game being f2p. The experiences aren’t the same if I have them 3 years later than I did.

Three of the four do not offer discounts. The other’s web page would not load for me. You can try from other companies online but be aware that you run the risk of getting scammed. Do your research before hand to determine if they’re credible.
