So we got this nice little announcement from ANet to all the complainers and whatever. I’m cool with it, I’m getting another slot, those are always useful.
But there is a very big thing for me in their date ranges. All of their future date ranges end on July 31st. Those ranges are based on pre-release sales. If it were still possible to pre-purchase after July 31st, why would this goodwill end then? The only conclusion I can come to is that August 1st will no longer be pre, but post-release.
Is this faulty logic? Did I miss an announcement and this is already common knowledge? What’s up?

Based on previous release dates and major patch releases from the past, between August and October is usually major release dates for GW2. Living world, etc. So I expect it between those months.
My guess is on or near GW2 3rd birthday.
GW2’s pre-purchase began exactly 2 months prior to the release. HoT’s pre-purchase began June 16.
Just sayin’.
Not to be a bubble popper, but its unlikely. There is still 6 weeks of elite specs left to be shared and 2 weeks of Rev core specs left. thats 2 months in itself and push it past Aug 1st

Do you have a source for this? I’m not saying it’s not true, I just was unsuccessful in trying to find a date for the pre-purchases when I looked a couple days ago. The only thing I could find was:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Beta#Stress_tests
Where it says: “Public stress tests were open to all players who have pre-purchased a copy of Guild Wars 2” and then “The first public stress test was on 14th of May, 2012”.
The release of GW2 was August 28th (or 25th for head start or something right?), which would mean pre-purchases were available for at least 3 months. Unless I’m missing something?
Edit: I also thought BWE1, BWE2, & BWE3 were only available to pre-purchases and the first was in April. I can’t find a source for who was allowed into those though.

Well considering how long it took to explain new PvP map and how long it took to show guild halls I would not be surprised if “something” happened and they changed plans with how to show stuff to people.
There’s not enough time for at least 7 blog posts (6 elite specs plus a mysterious challenging group content, unless of course that content is another “foundation” and won’t need a seperate blog post).

I do recall them saying they would do a week on each spec. What I dont recall them saying is that those weeks would be for just one spec. They could do two a week.

At least BWE3 was open to people who got invites and pre-purchase players did get more than one invite. I did not pre-purchase GW2 until after BWE3 was over and I participated in BWE3. I was given a key by my brother who had pre-purchased GW2 prior to the BWE’s.

Was thinking the same, but it can be a corporative deadline for refunds (something to do with change of budget year? perhaps).
The other problem is between the lack of open betas and that theres still specializations, chagenging content, maps? and revenant last core legend to announce; two months seems too short.
Hoping the release is in August 1! ^^
Theory Speculation Begins!
They still have to announce all the elite specializations, revenant (core and elite specialization), challenging content, PvE zones (specifics like #, name and size of zones), PvP (finalized stronghold), WvW (full BL reveal).
And if we follow the pattern of 1 week per reveal, that’s 11-13 weeks of reveals.
So we’re looking at Mid-Late September (if we don’t get any Core game content reveals, which would be sad T-T)
Wow. If pre-sales end July 31st and the expansion may not release until September sometime, maybe even later than that…
The extra character slot is only granted if you pre-purchase.
But now it seems that they may be stopping pre-sales months before they are even done releasing information on what it is you are pre-purchasing…
This would mean that there is no way anyone can make an informed decision on if the amount of content the expansion contains justifies the price before pre-sales end.
If this is what comes to pass, then…
…
Wow, ANet. Just, wow.

It’s like they aren’t confident in their product. Maybe because all it contains are “foundations” instead of a real content and that content might come in later patches, like new legendaries which we already know won’t be all ready by the launch. It could be very well the same with e.g. challenging content – publish a blog post, make people hyped about the “incoming” content and release it after a year or so.

And thats not considering PvE content, Maps, Story, Adventures, Challenging Group content, dungeons/fractals/raids (if any) etc..
but then again with Guild halls they had no issue dropping bulk information on single days so who knows!
It never fails to amaze me when people think there is some correlation between how many blog posts are left and the release date. They can do 5 blog posts per week or none at all if they planned so.

I’m sure players would be grateful for skipping preview of some elite specs.
