[HoT] scaling Traits unbalanced
Numbers are in a very early stage. Don’t expect any of the numbers they show to be final. Wait until we can actually test them before freaking out.

No, in the stream they say to discuss the traits. They’ve given a preview so we can comment on it and they can make improvements before things are final.
Of course discuss them. The mechanics and the idea on them. Placement and theme. Numbers aren’t something they are working on yet.
Engineer has had that problem for the longest with performance enhancement.
Anet really never did anything about that.
I am sorry you got it now too :/
same problem applies to ele, he got a new trait which scales of healing, resulting in a minimal boost for everyone who would accidentally pick it… also it gives ferocity, so it’s useless even for bunker ele who could have enough healing for it to be considerable…

That’s pretty horrible in two different ways.
10 % of precision added to ferocity would be excellent though.
Ranger Nature’s Wrath 10% healing power added to power
Just go healing power Druid, then I wont have to watch my back for flowery arrows of doom :P
They could easily fix this by just making it scale off the bonus of the attribute, ignoring the base, and then increasing the portion appropriately to reach similar levels.
They’ve already said they’re changing base stats and gear stats along with the specialization system and the removal of stats from trail lines, so we don’t know for 100% certain that Healing Power is going to stay base 0. Maybe its getting boosted up to 1000 starting and all the heal skills are being rebalanced accordingly. Or maybe Healing Power gear is going to give more stats than other gear, so that someone running Healing Power gear would end up with roughly equivalent Healing compared to someone else running Toughness gear.
We really don’t know enough about exactly what they’re doing with the stats to accurately judge the scaling traits, at this point.

haha you wish!

Yeah, let’s hope they either already changed it or are going to change it before release.
However, as far as I know they haven’t mentioned anything concerning this specifically yet. Not even while they were going through the traits on stream.
It would be a big deal if this slipped through since some traits would get a free 100 power (or whatever stat it gives) while others get nothing, eventhough they clearly want them to be balanced (since all scale 10%). 100 power is more than 3 stacks of might permanently.
honestly…. having 926 precision at level 80 might as well have 0. currently on live 926 precision gives you 4% crit chance. that basically means that 926 precision is the baseline for the maths. meaning of course, that to calculate your percentage, that you take you precision, whatever it is, and subtract 926 from it, THEN you can calculate the actual percentage based on the conversion.
At the update there will be several traits among many professions that scale off a certain stat. Let’s compare two:
Ranger Nature’s Wrath 10% healing power added to power
Warrior Armored Attack 10% of toughness added to powerThis might seem balanced, but consider that every character starts with 1000 toughness and 0 healing power.
Have you ever heard the phrase RTFQ? Read the full trait.
((Gain power based on healing. Your pet gains bonus stats.)) Healing to Power: 10%
Nature’s wrath was previously the grandmaster minor of beastmastery, the new one doesn’t provide us with the other half of our profession mechanic stat. Which means this trait should read:
Gain additional power equal to 10% of your healing. You also gain 15 empathy.
Empathy being our profession mechanic stat. Each point gives our pet 10 additional power, precision, toughness and vitality. The pet gaining bonus stats alone may well be worth the trait slot.

That’s how Precision works to calculate crit chance: wiki. It first takes off 841 and divides the rest by 21.
However, that’s not what currently happens with these traits. If you take a trait that scales off vitality, you get extra power even if you add 0 vitality in your build. So it also converts base vitality.

You’re not wrong. The trait does say “Your pet gains extra stats”. However, I don’t see how much Empathy it is: [Nature Magic traits]
But healing power still remains a bad stat to scale from. It’s nearly impossible to get 1000 healing power in your build. You might need it as a main stat on all your equipment. And when you do reach 1000 healing power, you’ve only gotten as far as all the other traits get baseline (the ones that scale off power/precision/vitality/toughness).
However, for your sake, a better example would be to compare these:
Elementalist Ferocious Winds
Warrior Armored Attack
Elemenalist with 0 extra healing power: 0 ferocity
Warrior with 0 extra toughness: 70 power
Elemenalist with 1000 extra healing power: 70 ferocity
Warrior with 1000 extra toughness: 140 power
