HoT unplayable without 3rd party resources.

So, to preface, I love Guild Wars, and have since Factions. So as you might guess, after hearing about the Revenant profession, I had never been more excited for a game’s release. And initially, I was not disappointed.
But the more I play HoT, the more its bugs bring me down. I haven’t stumbled on any new bugs—they’ve all been known issues, but I’m not one to typically search the forums before playing my games, only after I hit a wall. That’s why i’m sad that this expac I keep getting punished for trying new things without first searching the forums.
The first issue I stumbled upon was the map completion bug. When I map completed on my Rev after finishing the new story line, I was disappointed when I failed to get any rewards from the new areas.
It’s okay, I can live with that, it’s new content after all and anet is working on it. Though, maybe an in-game mail warning me would have been nice.
Oh wow, I did Dragon’s Stand event meta for the first time—what a rush. Props to the devs for that zone. The end boss there way outdoes any previous world boss—and that is saying something!
An added bonus, the “Ley-Energy Matter Converter”. How neat! The completionist in me drove me to buy all the tabs, I was only shy on aurillum, but after grinding the better part of an hour in magus falls I had every tab unlocked! How surprised was I the next day when all the tabs were locked again!
Another bug to bring down my spirits, and this one, I think anet overlooked a very easy fix! Why not disable those items for purchase until the LEMC works properly? That would save a lot of trouble I think.
Finally, I recently decided to poke around with the precursor crafting. I’m loving Rev, so why not check out the spear—its first tier is easy enough. With my rewards in hand, I had an “Essence of Sharks” and a “Box of Recipes: Carcharias (First Tier)”.
I had anticipated needing to send the recipes to my weaponsmith, but what luck, the box of recipes has artificer listed as well. My revenant is an artificer, and the weapon is for her, so why not learn it?
Oh great, artificer was listed due to 1 out of 4 recipes being craftable. 3 of the 4 recipes are weaponsmith only. So why did anet not disable the artificer and huntsman label? Or why not break up the recipes by profession so it’s not just 1 item? Or even, why not make the recipes account wide?
Instead we have an achievement reward, so it’s restricted to once per account, offering misleadingly labeled crafting recipes—honestly, that’s just bad design. (and yes, I did log onto my weaponsmith in hopes that the recipes were learned accountwide).
My personal advice, maybe the next betas should be done how most MMO’s do their betas: On a separate server, with no hidden content. Yes there will be spoilers for people who search on the internet—but also, so many more issues will be found.
I think most of anet’s clientele would agree: GW>WoW, I know I believe that. Yet anyone who has played both can’t deny that WoW stability and lack of bugs on live servers >GW stability and lack of bugs on live servers.
I love this game, I really do. But it’s just been one thing after another. I feel like I can’t explore any of the new content without searching the forums first—because it is not going to work as intended and I will be punished for it.
Thanks to anyone who read this, really I just needed to vent.
