Guild Wars 2

Heihei! I have played the original Guildwars and was looking forward to GW2. Unfortunately, life happens and I wasn’t able to purchase nor try the free version of GW2 for a long time. By chance, I was able to buy a copy of HoT a month ago (but just installed it a week or so ago) and that is what I am currently playing (and enjoying immensely).

My question would be that since HoT already includes the core game, how can I play the storyline from before the HoT expansion? Is it even possible?

I am unsure if there had been others who asked this question before but I hope that it isn’t a silly question as I know I missed out a lot from the time GW2 was released. Thank you for your kind consideration.

Upon character creation the core game personal story should be selected by default. If it is not for some reason you can select it in the story panel of your hero screen. Season 1 updates of the core game were temporary and are no longer available. Season 2 updates can be purchased from the gem store for those that missed it when it was live. Everything else core game related (map exploration and dynamic events, dungeons, fractals, etc.) can be done simply by going to the core game maps.

You can play your personal story and you can buy Season 2 of the Living Story, but you can not play Season 1 of the Living Story, and likely won’t be able to for a very long time if ever.

Timewise, the Personal story comes first, the Living Story Season 1 and 2 follow, followed by HoT. Presumably Living World Season 3 will be out at some point this year, possibly summer.

There’s also an animation you can access in game which gives you a very brief overview of season one.

To play your personal story press H and go to the story journal the 4th icon down. Click on my story or the icon immediately beneath it and click begin story. You can switch back and forth any time you wish between any of the compaigns, so you won’t lose progress in HoT.
