How are we supposed to make gold in the game now? They nerfed the game so you can’t farm for it anymore. The only answer I ever get is “use the trading post”. The would be nice, if I ever got any drops worth anything, or if I had gold in the first place. Now everything costs more to gear up your character, and there’s no way to get more gold. Farming the material takes forever. I have spent months just to get what little I have now. Now, it will take at least a year to get my next character into ascended armor, that’s not including the legendary coming up. Is the only way to really spend real life cash? If so, that’s not very fair at all. What kind of game does that?

If you had done something OTHER than farming dungeons, you would know the answer to this. Don’t blame the game, blame yourself for thinking that farming dungeon gold was going to last forever and that any other way wasn’t worth the effort.

Short answer: Gold is laying on the ground almost everywhere you go in this game, you just need to pick it up.

Currently, finding a good instance of one of the new HoT maps is the most rewarding way of play.

If you want liquid gold, TD is the best map to go but you will also find it hardest to get a good instance there because of an overly difficult meta event.

Otherwise, you can go play fractals. The current reward is not amazing, but the liquid gold is actually decent given how quick some of those low level runs are. Very reminiscent of the old dungeon farming.

In addition, they will soon increase fractal rewards. So if you are a huge dungeon guy, get your AR ready and play fractals.

Well, Obtena, I never said that doing dungeons was the only way to make gold. So your response is just dumb. That wasn’t the only thing they nerfed. Drop rates have gotten worse for SW and DT, as well. Plus, coin drops from monsters has been diminished. TY, Exciton, I will give it a try. But I haven’t had much luck in drops in that area. Everything I have gotten that was good, has been account bound. I’m just looking for a new way to farm. Especially with the way that everything costs more to make.

Tangled depth event progression reward includes a junk item that sells for 30s.
Dragon stand event chain should give you tons of yellow weapons that sell for 20-40s each.

Also, don’t completely narrow down your scope to gold. There are other forms of reward too. I myself has been working on the elite specialization weapon unlock. It is an ascended weapon with fancy skin.

Yeah, it is account bound. But isn’t your goal ascended items? Gold is just a way to get them right? Hoarding gold is meaningless in itself since this is just a game.

The majority of drops are blue/green for sure. But every DS run I got like a lot of yellows, T6 mats as well. My ecto storage alone raised by 300 after expansion goes alive(That’s basically 100 gold worth).

In addition, you will get an over abundance of T5 mats from salvaging blue/green. You can use them in two ways:
1. make daily gated ascended mats. You will need them for ascended crafting anyway.
2. make level-80 yellow greatswords. Sell them on TP if you want quick consistent profit. If you like gambling, put them in mystic forge for a possible precursor.

In a nutshell, yes. There isn’t really good way to make money in the game besides playing the TP.

If so, that’s not very fair at all. What kind of game does that?

One whose cash shop was designed by the head of the cash shop from Maplestory. If anything, I’m surprised it took as long as it did to get to this point.

See, the problem here is that you only know how to farm gold when some of the best way to make gold is to take the stuff you farm and figure out when to sell it. Have you even looked at TP prices for any of the mats needed for making a guild hall for instance, or any mat for that matter?

Don’t know that it’s rng or not to get that. But it nice.

If you had done something OTHER than farming dungeons, you would know the answer to this.

^This.

If gold is a hugely motivating factor you have to think outside the square. Outside repeating the farms everyone else does because it’s on every “How to make gold” thread or youtube video you have to be proactive and patient for these changes to take effect and the market to settle.

Anet blatantly stated this would happen on release with the changes and it’s not even a month in yet.

If your jumping on bandwagon to bandwagon then just farm SW like the majority. Outside that join a guild that is economy focused, most will have tips and players that follow the economy closely. Such guilds got a huge return on investing in pre-HoT runes, sigils and armor in the last few weeks that are now selling for well over 10x the cost for example.

If it’s a big deal do some research, it’s worth it’s weight in gold.

Literally.

Or play trading post. I’m making 50-60g an hour right now (secret is mine because I’m greedy). Just search items, watch trends, in a day or so hit it. A good thing to do is dip lightly, if it profits a LOT, then go full dive. Easy money.

Yeah, my way to make gold has always been Fractals or SW and DT. Ive been working on DS, but I don’t guess my luck is high enough. it sits at 151%. I’ve only been playing for 6 months, so I’ve been relying on what I learn form others. It’s just been everyone, in game, has told me TP. That doesn’t help me. So I think I will try taking mats and making things that have some kind of profit. TY guys.

All these threads abut having problem making gold. Since HoT came out I:

- Bought the 3.5k gem pack (the Tron foraging tools, inventory slots and copper salvager).
- Bought the 800 gems Heavy Aether armor (I just wanted the gloves. Pity I didn’t know about the 20% off sale that came afterwards).
- Bought the 560 gems monk outfit (usually at 700 gems).

So that’s around… 670 gold or something? I’ll agree if you’re after a precursor it’s peanuts, but that was me just playing HoT, doing the events and exploring the map.

I think you look at it from the wrong perspective. You should not ask where to get gold, but you should ask why so many things require gold.

Even many of the things you craft yourself require at least one item you need to buy with gold (taking away the ability to get all mats from the game and make it that way).

Like you say “Farming the material takes forever.”. that is not true for all mats, but for a large enough number it is… and not only mats. This is true for skins, weapons, toys, mini’s.

If you could do this quest for that mini, kill that mob for some skin, do this dungeon for that weapon, farm these mats to craft that toy and so on.. there would be no problem. The problem is not where to get gold but that you need to get gold.

Your preferred way to get gold might have been dungeon, for some it’s silver waste, for other it where the champ-trains and for other it are farming the world-bosses. As it had a high probability that getting anything you like required to get gold, you were pretty much forced to do any of those. (they usually say.. nah just play the way you want and you earn the money. But unless you liked any of those things, playing the way you want was an unrealistic way to earn the money…. ,maybe for one item but considering there are always other items you also want it just is not a reasonable option).

Of course many interesting items just come to the Gem-Store (so much for B2P) what also does not help as the only game-mechanic to earn those is grinding gold.

So I see your point but maybe you should consider putting the question different. Unless you happened to love grinding x for gold.

1. Login on my several alts parked at the Flax farm in Verdant Brink. Harvest all of them.

2. Make as much Linseed Oil as I can.

‘Just playing’ is:

- Everyday run both flax farms. I have eight levels 80 so it used to net 20+g a day and nowadays around 12g or so. It was a lot of hassle ferrying them across three maps and some of them I have not played in literally years.
– Try for a Tarir and a VB meta each day. More Tarirs aren’t bad. Neither are more VBs. Making an effort to pick the crates floating in the air as well even at the cost of a boss or two.
- Mine everything, forage everything. Even stuff at 20c I was throwing at the TP.

An average a day goes between 40 to 50g but I’m burning out. I still want the Crystal Arbiter pack mostly for the immortal skin which means another 372g or so.

Silverwastes might work better but I’m not fond of that map.

Currently, only 3 of 20 precursors have a higher buy order than 670g, dusk, zap and legend.

Only 4 more (7/20 overall), leaf of kudzu, spark, colossus and dawn, cant be bought directly with 670g.

“Everyday run both flax farms.” Oke so if it comes to this point, farming to sell to make gold is ‘just playing’.
That explains a lot. I would define that as grinding for gold, not ‘just playing’.
So that means that in a discussion with somebody where he says “You can earn it by just playing” while the other says “You need to grind for everything”, what the one considers ‘grinding for gold’, the other considers ‘Just playing’.

Btw, I also farm the seeds daily, but that goes to the guild.

For your other examples I do also notice at least the idea in the back of your head of.. I should do this because it makes me gold and I should do this because it makes me gold.

Not saying that is a problem, but it does examples the differences in idea about grinding vs just playing.

It’s true. Running both flax farm is dull and costs me around 40 minutes, but I would not make 12-20g in 40 minutes (others might, I’m sure I wouldn’t).

I need(ed) the gold because there were things I was after. That means unholstering the credit card or farm. I consider farming part of the game though. Everything we do we do for the reward, be it a skin, or the gold to buy a skin. What reason do we have to run a meta more than once, a dungeon path more than the first five or six times, if not to chase a reward for our needs?

This may be where we differ. If say ‘only playing’ because playing involves everything. Chasing after skins/rewards is part of GW2/games, and it has always involved grind, or farm, be it farming dungeons for the tokens or farming gold to buy the skin. To me doing one VB and one Tarir a day is ‘just playing’. Neither is onerous, neither is not something I would not be doing anyway, the difference being that I log on and where I would usually be ‘well, what now? Chase achievements? Chase masteries? Map completion? Do a meta? PvP?’ instead I am ‘okay, only X more gold to buy Y, so lets check which meta is on’.

Running around killing beasties and looting their corpses is what 90% of GW2 is about

But my post was meant for the original poster who complained there are no more means of farming gold any more other than spending RL cash.

There are, but it means putting our back to it. Time VS RL cash. Spend time and grind the gold. Spend RL cash and have extra time to do other things than chase gold.

P.S (I also have a guild and love them, but I’m not dumping vast sums of gold into something I see dubious use. It’s still my time and my virtual currency and if you decided to spend yours then kudos, but it’s still 10-15g a day you’re giving away. You know, like the devs intended when they made such absurd prices).
