Would you rather have Anet stuck with previous lore and used Mursaat or are you happier they came up something new?

Simple question here. Lots of people were assuming Mursaat. I suppose they could still be revealed later somehow. They are now adding a new type never before seen in GW1. So which do you prefer? Anet to stick with and further flesh out older lore or come up with new stuff?

Would have much rather they expanded upon old lore and used the mursaat or seers.

New race of floating spellcasters that existed for centuries without us knowing? Feels very shoehorned.

The golden city is just a slap in the face to mursaat fans.

From the smallest blade of grass to the largest mountain, where life goes—so, too, should you.

I’m less bothered about the Exalted and more about they just dropped the Master of Peace’s actual goal like it was nothing. You had most of Season 2 revolving about the mystery of the whereabouts of Glint’s Egg and you spoil it before the game even comes out?

I’d rather it be a new race with new lore than if it had been a city inhabited by the Mursaat, which would have been blatantly lore breaking.

The whole point of the Flameseeker Prophecies was that it was about the doom of the Mursaat. Their species is nearly extinct with only Lazarus the Dire still potentially being alive. If the Mursaat were not only still alive but thriving it’d make a lot of what we did in GW1 meaningless.

That isn’t to say I don’t want to meet Lazarus the Dire one day and have him return as a major antagonist. There just shouldn’t be an entire city with a thriving Mursaat population.

This is something I’ve never understood….We’re talking about a race that can literally phase into and out of the mists at will. How do you know there’s not billions of Mursaat just thriving in the mists somewhere right now? Have you personally explored every inch of the infinite mists? Sure, all the ones on Tyria were jerks, but maybe that’s because when Glint told her prophecy of the Mursaat’s defeat, almost all of them decided to flee, and a few decided to stay behind and fight the prophecy, thus the only ones we encountered in GW1 were the ones dedicated to stay and be jerks?

Afaik, nowhere in lore does it say there’s only one Mursaat left.

Also, I would rather have had them been Mursaat….

Exalted … who? Concerning narrative design – why create new characters when there is plenty to build on in existing lore? What is the purpose of these seemingly unsubstantial “goodie two shoes”, when we could have gotten “the real stuff”, a bunch of uber cool Mursaat, right in the middle of Maguuma near one of the bloodstones? Feels a little bit like an anticlimax right now … And yes, I wondered too why they threw away such a huge chunk of story before HoT even was released. For what purpose, again?

Glint specifically uses the word demise when she tells you about her prophecy. It isn’t exactly the demise of the Mursaat if they still have billions of other Mursaat hiding in the Mists.

This.

The lore works, despite constant complaints (and funny thing to me is that the complainer’s “better lore” doesn’t work with continuity despite their claim). But honestly, this was supposed to be a huge discovery in the game. And we get it as some blog post…

Dear ANet writers,

I have to say

ANET DON’T BE SPOILING YOUR OWN EXPANSION!

Don’t give away major, interesting information before we have a chance to get there. Just think how exciting it would have been for the first people to see that city off in the distance. To reach it. To explore and find out for who and what’s in there for the very first time.

Now. They’ll see the city and say. Oh, yeah. That’s the exalted city from the blog posts. I’ve already read all about it. You want to go over there or go this way instead? (Points off to another area).

Be careful what you ask for
ANet may give it to you.

The mursaat fled the world during the previous dragonrise, after wiping out the Seers to near extinction. This was thousands of years before Glint foresaw the Flameseeker Prophecies.

But all indication shows that the mursaat are in few numbers. Not just from the fact we killed hundreds upon hundreds of them in GW1, but let’s not forget that the Titans – also beings of the Mists – hunted them down. And there’s also all the dev comments or NPC comments about how they’re so few in number if not nigh extinct.

It would be a pretty big “wtf!?” if the mursaat returned in huge numbers.

Also, I would rather have had them been Mursaat….

Mursaat have been established as powerful but selfish kittens who are willing to kitten entire worlds and races for their own existence. They’ve done such twice.

Would you really want those kinds of people as your allies (as the Exalted are allies and known to have been since the masteries were found)? I know I wouldn’t.

Not as much of a “wtf” as there having been a city in the maguuma that no one has seen this entire time. Besides how do you know what the remaining Mursaat could have done in 250 years? Scarlet made an entire army in a few weeks/months. You wouldn’t need huge numbers either, even a few Mursaat could probably wreck kitten, the last Eidolon I saw was a shield and the Seers aren’t anywhere to be seen.

I wonder how Elona is doing since we released Palawa Joko.

1) Depends on where in the jungle the city is. We went pretty deep by lore standards – deeper than anyone sans the druids. However, based on the guild hall that’s the golden city, that’s even deeper.

2) Scarlet didn’t raise any armies. She took control of pre-existing armies. The remaining mursaat already have an army – the White Mantle – and have been waging a secret war for 250 years. Presuming that the mursaat still lead the White Mantle.

3) Do remember that the last known mursaat, Lazarus, had his very being messed with. Who knows what that would do long-term.

Wouldn’t be the first time we’ve done that.

I wonder how Elona is doing since we released Palawa Joko.

Palawa Joko didn’t kitten an entire species to extinction for the sake of saving his own behind, nor abandoned an entire world to destruction.

When the world was threatened, Joko put aside differences and aided his enemies.

I don’t think the two compare.

Do you know how big a planet is compared to a city? Or even a sub-continent? Shoot, even a state/providence/territory.

It is entirely possible we just never got close enough to the city to see it. It’s a dense jungle that we didn’t see from the air. Looking at the image of the city from a sky view we saw in the trailer it actually looks like it’s surrounded by cliffs.

Just because we were in the general area of the city doesn’t mean it’s impossible for us to not have seen it. Especially when you add in that it’s a magic city populated by magic people who are actively trying to be hidden.

There will always be people complaining about new things. I personally like it. What Anet spoil to us is their thing, but I am sure there are many other things we don’t know about, waiting for us in the Maguuma.

I am lazy to write it over and over. So sorry for my English.

Wouldn’t have liked Mursaat to be introduced in this manner, and still am not really fond of yet another new race being introduced.

Do agree with the frustration at blog-post vs. game though; the blogs prior to the original release had me really hopeful for the in-game dynamics and story, yet… yeah.

Really need a better way of conveying things in the game; cities that feel like cities, characters that feel like characters, etc. At this point, I’d like traditional side-quests to return. :-/

I preferred the idea of them being Mursaat, it would have been an fun new dynamic, like, they hate us for what we’ve been a part of in doing to their race, but they need our help… Could have also paved the way to some White Mantle themed content in the future… The blog post did spoil a little much, but maybe we’ll see some old GW1 NPC’s return in this new form?

es expected they want to cut ties to the first game even through lore. just pile up new stuff that has nothing to do with the old lore in order to make people forget at some point. then you can start breaking lore with not many people noticing.

I feel that making your champions into armored balls of pure magical energy is shortsighted considering the Dragons they’re supposed to oppose feed on balls of pure magical energy

All Glint did was make a bunch of crunchy novelty SNACKS for her former masters.

This won’t end well.

Hi, the seers would like to have a word with you.

Except that they can’t, because the mursaat wiped them all out.

When the world was threatened, Joko put aside differences and aided his enemies.

He still didn’t stab us in the back, wipe out humanity, and then fled into the Mists before the threat could be dealt with.

This isn’t in any way a slap in the face to Mursaat fans, and it certainly doesn’t rule out Mursaat involvement or ancient race involvement. These Exalted are not the Mursaat, but the similarities are there for a reason I am sure. Don’t forget we’ve still got Rata Sum (Mursaat) which is a ruin of unknown origin (but really quite obviously Mursaat) that would appear to have a great deal in common with Tarir, in that it can appear to be a ruin only to be “awoken” by it’s magical creators (although in Rata Sums case it has already been taken over and leads in really well to an Asuran expansion about the Mursaat and Primordius). The Mursaat and Exalted appear to at least use very similar magic. I mean how did they lay dormant? My guess is they phased out just like the Mursaat. Both share a great deal in common with Seers too (floating humanoid spellcasters with access to similar magic or at least a counter to Mursaat magic). It means something if these similar beings can come out of this dormant state without us ever knowing about them in the first place when as far as we know the Mursaat and the Seers are completely wiped out. The outcome I would like to see is that the exalted are run by or include Saul, and they are all White Mantle members who still “worship” or at least appreciate the Mursaat, but accept their great fall and the mistakes they made, and are now allied with Glint and the Forgotten as they should have been in the first place had they not run away. They could in many ways be the spiritual successor to Mursaat, but put back on the right track. Many people have suggested for a long time anyway that the Mursaat weren’t just created as the Mursaat – they are in some way an evolution of another race or underwent a magical process or their magic just defines them more than their form. All of this would open the door to the reentry of the other magical races, perhaps prompting the Seers out of hiding if they are out there (somewhat unlikely), bringing the Forgotten out of the Crystal Desert (if they are still there, and I think they almost certainly are), and perhaps even setting off on a mission together to return the Jotuns magic to them and bring them back into the fold too. Poor ol’ Ogden could join in too, but sadly I think he really is the last dwarf because it’s a pretty powerful plot device for him, within his lifetime, to have been a theorist of the dwarven “apocalypse”, witnessed it and undergone his races transformation into a hive mind, and then be left as the only one within the hive mind.
