How long does the Expansion sale last?
As I’ve said in many a thread I am on a fixed income so I have to plan all of my purchases very carefully every two weeks when I get paid.
How long will Heart of Thorns be 50%, if it’s going to be one of those unrealistic couple day or even one week sales then I guess it will be another time you don’t get money from me, how ever if you’re smart enough to make this sale last 2 weeks so that realistically all of your customer base has a chance to buy it then I’ll buy a copy for my wife on the 28th when I’ll actually have money again.
Aint it only living story season 2 thats on sale mate
Edit
Found it says on main page if you click it, July 20 -27 is the sale on hot

How out of touch with reality can ANet be, most employers pay BI Weekly, guess we’ll be playing Legion instead!
I just filed a ticket asking for an extension laying out my logic for the millionth time regarding the large size of their customer base that get paid bi weekly. Most MMO players are not Whales, most of us live on fixed incomes.
It’s only $25. Is that much really going to set players back for that one week?

By this time of the pay period I have already paid my bills, gone grocery shopping for two weeks worth of food, all of the money is gone.
I am literally part of the working class that lives pay check to pay check, that’s why I play MMOs as opposed to blowing 500 every two years on a gaming console along with 50 to 60 every week on a console game that is played through in a week or less.

Well not all people that are paid bi-weekly get paid the same week. For example, mine is this Friday. It’s a bit unfair to criticize a company because their promotion doesn’t align with when a group receives their paycheck.

And you got no friend that can lend you 25$ for a week?
" Well not all people that are paid bi-weekly get paid the same week. For example, mine is this Friday. It’s a bit unfair to criticize a company because their promotion doesn’t align with when a group receives their paycheck."
You do realize that a 2 week sale would cover everybody’s pay period, or hell how about some advance warning so that people can save for it in advance even?
" And you got no friend that can lend you 25$ for a week?"
This one amuses me, maybe it’s an age thing, or a generational thing but most adults don’t borrow money unless A)They have no food, B/) Something important like the Electric is going to be shut off, or perhaps your car is broken. C) Maybe you’re house burned down and you’re homeless. D) You’re very very sick and can’t buy much needed medicine to not die.
Borrowing money to buy a game is just not something I or any one I know would have the audacity to do.

Not all promotions have to cater to all players. There have been many gem store sales that have been up for less than a week. A little over a year ago the core game went on sale once or twice for $10 lasting for a single weekend.

Since you seem to be on a very tight budget maybe you should stash away a little money each pay check in a GW2 fund. That way when things like this come up you are prepared. I’ve lived on a low budget in the past and learned saving a little for future “fun purchases” as I called them a very helpful technique.

And I have criticized each and every one of them, to have this sale end literally a day before I get paid Is one time too many, especially when I can just save long term at this point for the end August and just spend money on that other game instead.
Oh and now that HoT has been on sale, in my eyes it will never be worth that $50 price tag again, especially having it bump up to $50 on the day I get paid.
They are literally taunting me to spend my money else where.

When you live pay check to pay check something always comes up, something always breaks, something just plain goes wrong that would ideally better be fixed immediately rather than later.
Well I’d love to sit here and continue this circular argument but I have to get ready to go to my job that I haven’t seen a raise at in roughly 5 years because of this awesome economic recovery we supposedly had from the last recession.
We get paid monthly in Chile too.

Then, you would never have the extra cash to spend on gaming, anyway, since something always requires that extra little bit.
I’m sure I live on a much smaller income than you, and if I truly wanted to purchase another copy of HoT, I would find a way.
Good luck with your other game (if you can find the extra cash).

So what would have happened if the sale did fall when you got paid and you spent the $25 on HoT and then one of those issues you mentioned occurred and you suddenly needed that money? Now you can’t pay to fix whatever ever broke or goes wrong. Would you have blamed that on Anet? Trust me I’ve been in your spot. In my case I put things like gaming on the back burner and never complained that I could not afford them. When I could save a little here and there and afford them it was a nice treat. That was just the way things were and I lived with it.

Your post history suggests otherwise. I did not see any complaint posts within the first 5 pages when I skimmed through them.
Games go on sale quite often and also get marked down as they age. The value of the content doesn’t degrade over time. If something was worth $50 one day to someone, it doesn’t suddenly become only worth $25 because the price dropped.
Edit: Ok. I saw one post 5 months ago about wings. That hardly qualifies as “each and every one of them”.

Sorry that you won’t be able to buy it when its on sale, its quite a deal. Though in a sort of defense of ANet there was previously a sale on a third party gaming site that was only $35 and it lasted over a month iirc. It was linked to from reddit and probably from these forums as well.
Anywho, I think this has something to do with some marketing/economic theory somewhere about limited time sales. It seems like most sales done by gaming companies follow these “rules”
Not to be a downer, but if you need to wait until you get paid at the end of the month . . . you might want to re-prioritize buying the expansion then. . . .

You’re right, I’ll be prioritizing it some where else instead.

It really doesn’t matter why the OP doesn’t have the wherewithal during the sale; the fact is, they don’t and the reasons shouldn’t matter to any of us. I’m sorry that the OP won’t be able to take advantage of the sale.
At the same time, I can’t imagine how that’s ANet’s responsibility. There are hundreds of considerations for determining when and by how much to discount a product. Time-limited offers are an old and true method for encouraging high volume to make up for the decreased price.
I hope that the OP will consider waiting for the next opportunity — surely if HOT is discounted once, it will be discounted again (if not by ANet then perhaps by Amazon or other trusted retailers).
I bought the core game + HoT for $50 back in 2015, now I want to upgrade to the Deluxe Edition. My question is, upgrading from the web ($37.49) gives me another Lv80 boost (I’ve already used one)?

By buying legion and a month’s subscription, apparently, and the total cost of that is? Greater than HoT at full price. Enjoy it.
This entire thread made me chuckle. “I live in a biweekly paycheck” “I’m an adult! It’s indecent to borrow money from a friend, even though by my own logic I can pay him back just days after I borrowed!” “I can’t afford Heart of Thorns for like $50 AFTER ALL THAT so I think I’ll spend $60 on Legion” wow what bad planning ArenaNet. Shame on you for not catering to this man’s hilariously specific financial issue XD
PS sounds like you’re just scraping by, you probably shouldn’t be buying video games imo

Only if you create a new account (with the Serial Key you will get with the Deluxe Edition purchase) not associated with your current game (Core + HoT) account.
Otherwise, one free L80 Boost per account.
Good luck.

Spoken like a true kid who has never had to live day to day. I don’t even mean that to be insulting. I am envious. But seriously $25 can literally be the difference between eating lunch for a week or not.
Maybe you simply don’t want to spend money in your wife’s gaming? I know sometimes making this kind of present could be dissapointing and a waste.
In my case, I think buying Gw2+HoT for my girlfriend was one of the better deals I have ever done. So much gaming, so much lore talking, so much love, so much everything.

Not a kid. I did do that in college though as I worked to pay my way through on top of loans. However, not once was I ever down to the point where $25 would make it or break it for me.
To be honest, if I was in a situation like that, where anything wrong could happen, I would not even buy the expansion and instead save the money so I have a buffer for emergencies.

I had better money management skills when I was 7 and my only income was when I visited grandparents or my birthday.
Do you even listen to what nonsense you’re saying? How did you even survive so far?
So you’re saying that as soon as you get paycheck you run to spend it all and then you walk around with no money for 2 weeks?
You knew something like this might happen so you could have set aside few bucks every month, but nooooooooo, it’s easier to blame someone else for your incompetence regarding the money. Do you even realise that a lot of people get paycheck once a month? What about those people? I’m one of them. Everyone in my country gets it once a month. We all know how to plan minimum of 1 month ahead. Cause we’re not incompetent with money. Should we raise hell because this sale come at the end of month?
And if 1 week after your paycheck you have no money left, then please explain how would you survive that week if you would spend it on game before buying groceries? That 25$ you have to cut from somewhere. Are you gonna eat less next two weeks?
Anet didn’t have to do this sale, the game could have stayed 50$ forever and nobody would bat an eye. It’s stupidly low price considering you pay it once and then you play forever. But as soon someone gives you a finger you reach to tear out the whole arm and scream like a brat when you don’t get it and because things don’t go your way.
You try to sound like a responsible adult, but all I see in your posts is inability to manage your money properly and blaming other for your problems.

This conversation has veered quite a bit off course. The sales period is as outlined: July 20 – 27. If you’re unable to purchase in that period, we’re sorry to hear it. But angry posts aren’t appropriate on this forum, and demands for a price schedule to fit one’s personal paycheck are not reasonable or feasible.
