This Friday – From the time you launch gw2 hot,, how long do you think the download will take?

I believe i read its about 15 gig we need to download —- how long will it take?

Im thinking 2 hours ( based on absolutely nothing )

I think 10 minutes if no one interferes with my patching, as I think most of it’s already on board and I have a fast connection.

However, I don’t imagine for a moment the login servers won’t be inundated by everyone trying to use them, and on top of that the (ohhhh I have some choice adjectives here but there’d be a whole litter of baby cats in my post) … people and I use the term loosely … who think vandalism is funny will no doubt work to sabotage the launch.

So … 45 minutes to several hours.

I just hope ANet staff can stay strong and not take to heart the nasty comments some unkind sorts are likely to make about connection issues beyond ANet’s control.

Hoping there’s an option to preload a few days ahead of time for those of us with slow kitten ISPs.

Depends on your Internet speed. Bear in mind your ISP advertises in bits, and you download in bytes. 8 bits = 1 bye. So, if your ISP advertises 50Mbs, you should download at a rate of 6.25MB/s.

There are 1,024 MB in 1 GB. So, if you constantly download at a rate of 6.25MB/s, the HoT expansion (assuming 15GB, which = 15,360MB) will take ~41 minutes, assuming everything works perfectly.
However, bear in mind the servers will be stressed during release. So don’t expect the optimal download rate.

That would totally depend on the amount of data to download (I don’t think it will be anywhere near 15GB), the download speed of each user’s internet connection, the server’s ability to handle the influx of requests for said data, etc. etc.

Thus, the answer will be different for many, if not all.

15GB does seem hi, but it’s a reasonable estimate as far as calculations go. Always expect a lot higher time then it should normally take.
I’d be very surprised if a lot of the data (I.E. new systems, icons, masteries, etc.) doesn’t come in a patch a few days before launch, however.

Or if that data hasn’t already been fed to us. We had quite a few builds over the past couple of weeks. I wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if we already have a good chunk of the data downloaded. -Sid

I am pretty sure we have everything except the new maps/items given what was datamined.

I would estimate about 15 minutes before you can start playing. remember that you only need to download a small portion of the expansion before the game allows you to download while you play like any other patch.

Remember those times, 3 or 4 years ago, where its like “Gotta set the download up before I go to work, hope its done when I get home”? Anyone? Oh the memories lol.
