How many players actually do HoT?
All of my guild is in HoT. Maybe the maps you are in are empty because most people taxi to populated/meta maps via the LFG tool.
I have the same problem whenever I just join a random instance. It always seems like I get a low populated instance where only part of the map is being played by a group of players and the rest is abandoned.
That being said, I think the “problem” is that people are using LFG to be trained into a more populated map. I put “problem” in quotes because it isn’t really a problem, I feel like that was intentional. I feel like HoT was designed to force players to sort of group together.
Course, I also don’t have a problem soloing maps and usually only will join a populated map with LFG if I need to farm events for a mastery or something. If I am just on to play around or work on my story, I am plenty fine with how a random map is populated.
Course, I might be a minority here and my thoughts above could be completely wrong.
I think the initial rush in certain maps is over. Don’t get me started on Tangled Depths. Seems everyone flees that map as soon as possible with good reasons.
But, that said, if you’re looking for a fuller map, the LFG tool could be helpful.
The maps are populated, the problem is if you just login with the intention of playing, you’re likely going to get put into one of the last instances with the least amount of people.
Megaservers reserve space for people who join through parties. The problem is that people then taxi out of your less populated instance, which further increases the problem for everyone else.
I rarely see a map that has enough people to successfully finish the meta event.
I thought it would get better once Halloween was over, but it hasn’t.
megaserver system right now is broken for magus falls maps.
i spent some time in hot areas to get 2 elite specs unlocked. that took around 15h +- after that i went back to doing classic stuff & farming world bosses. playing hot areas feels like working a job and i do that already for 8h/day so no thanks.
Tangled Depths is where I am struggling to find a meta event even remotely active, I try to keep an eye on looking for group tool while going about completing the map but nothing ever pops up.
Most maps are empty but it is fairly easy to LFG into a map that can do the Meta events for Verdant, Auric, and Dragon’s Stand. Tangled Depths often will have players running events but when it comes time for the finale the map can go from nearly full to a ghost town in seconds. Virtually nobody even thinks about considering making an attempt at talking about convincing other players to maybe sorta stick around for the meta.
I think we’d all like to know how many players have bought HoT and how many of those are actively playing the new maps. But I don’t think anyone official is going to tell us those numbers…
the map feels empty because probably you are ported to a fresh instance, look in LFG for a map doing events.
Wat r u, casul?

I do but not exclusively. I don’t always feel like doing the same few maps, so I alternate HoT content with other things.
I only stick around the zone for some adventures, flax gathering, and story achievements. Orr and Silverwaste feel far more rewarding.
If I find myself in a difficult event/champ fight I just tag up and post it in map chat. People always come. Now with the mentor tag anyone can do this.
Also, I think map populations can fluctuate greatly because many are drawn to just the meta event and leave shortly after which leaves the map rather empty. You can go to your character select screen and just come back in and hope for a better map. You won’t lose your participation progress.
Many players are also just farming Hero Points so they may not be interested in events.
All this taxiing doesnt feel like proper map filing mechanics, megaserver in HoT really sucks, agree.
Most awkward is f.e. AB map, ppl doing towers, 70 perc done, zerg 40-50 ppl, 2 or 3 coms, and suddenly – volunteer window pops. Most of ppl click that, instead of more taxiing in, killing map completely.
It could atleast prefer map by tier, and population after, to fill more succesful ones.
Why would I not play around in HoT? I paid for it, I enjoy it, I am progressing my char in it. What I do not do is stay in there 24/7. I do lots of different parts in the game. I don’t let myself get “bored” or feel like I am “grinding” or anything like that. I move onto a different section when I feel like it
