So apparently Legendary armor will be available for players who like to raid, which is great for those players, but what about all those players who have zero interest in raiding but who want to earn Legendary armor? What methods will be available for them? Well we be able to earn armor pieces through the Legendary Precursor crafting system that’s being added?

Keep in mind that a large chunk of GW2’s population is here to get away from raiding type games.

The same way you get arah weapon or fractal skin? pay gold?

at least that is how I got my arah collection done.

The chunk of the population should play ALL GW2 has to offer. But if you refuse, I suppose Anet may hide legendary armor behind the raid for a few months before releasing that dove to the populace.

Hopefully you cannot get it without raiding. But perhaps you’ll be able to buy slots, kinda like dungeons, but more expensive. So farm your chests in SW and then simply buy slots.

I could definitely see this happening. Very fun to see player driven things like this happen in the game.

Seriously, if I wanted to raid I would be playing Wildstar, “not raiding” is one of the things I love best about GW2, and I’d hate to see raiding corrupt this game’s culture. It’s not that I don’t think I’m capable of raiding, it’s that I have absolutely no interest in it under any circumstances, and hope that the developers can respect that.

I really don’t care much about that. I want the Legendary armor because it’s the best armor, even if it doesn’t have a higher tier of stats. There is no valid alternative that involves “well you don’t get to have it.” The valid alternative is “we understand you don’t like raids, that’s perfectly understandable for someone who spent three years playing an MMO that clearly did not have them, so here’s no players who don’t like raids can earn the Legendary armor.”

There won’t be another way and thats how it should be.

Colin said live at PAX that raids will have masteries and that is the only way to get the precursor required for Legendary armor. Those precursors are account bound btw, so no, they will not be on TP for you to just simple buy after you spammed auto attack in silverwastes for a week.

Horrible decision if that’s the case. Play the way you want to, unless of course you want a certain tier of gear. It may be the same stats, but it’s still it’s own tier. It seems the mass migration of WoW players finally took it’s toll and is turning the game away from what some of us long term players loved about it. I’m not saying you shouldn’t get special rewards for raids that aren’t found elsewhere in the game, but it shouldn’t be an entire tier of gear. That’s my opinion, even if it doesn’t feel as though it’s heard.

You realize at least one step of the legendary armor process will likely be in raids. That’s how legendaries are. They make you do a lot of specific content. You have to do WvW, you have to do map completion, etc. Not sure just exactly what these new ones will entail, but it might be more of the same in that you must complete specific content or achievements to build your legendaries.

I have to deal with not having a lot of things in the game. Things that are not available anymore, no matter how badly I want them. I just deal with it.

Ugh, it’s NOT it’s own tier. It’s the same kitten tier as ascended. The only thing it has is a fancy looking skin and stat swapping (which is still possible even on normal ascended, it’s just more convenient on the legendary). That does not make it another tier of gear.

I think it depend if the reward is only from final boss or if there are mini boss on the way that drop them.

If the rewards is focused on the last boss you can just join a group pay them some gold and be out in a few minutes.

They didn’t say skins here. Skins and functioning gear, especially with the way Legendaries can be adjusted on the fly are different. These lines in the blog conflicted. No gear grinds is exactly opposite of acquiring Legendaries. We need more information here.

I’m sorry but legendaries have NEVER been about nor never will be about “playing whatever content you like.” That’s just not the way it works. I hate map completion. It’s boring as hell to me, but if I want one of the current legendaries I have to do it. Who knows what the current legendaries will require, but it’s highly unlikely every step is going to be something you like.

Gee, I wish I could get a Bolt by playing in WvW/PvP but I can’t. Do you see me complaining about it? or the countless others that haven’t bothered doing the steps required to get some of the skins/items ? I hate completing all those hearts in every map, but you have to do it if you want the legendary. Did anet change that because I don’t like it? NO. and im TOTALLY OK with it. Not everything should be easily accessible with the push of a button. if you want something awesome, you have to do awesome amounts of work.

What’s been announced is going to be in effect. If you don’t like it, thats your problem.

Ideally, no single game mode should feel more important or more rewarding in terms of time/effort spent than any other. Otherwise, you risk making that game mode dominate end game and potentially kill other game modes (which is exactly what you see in other raid-focused games with those types of rewards).

Legendary gear, because of the stat swapping, by definition is superior to all other gear, even if by a minimal degree. For that reason, it should be attainable in different ways to encourage more diverse play style and show that Anet is still dedicated to ALL of its players – unlike other games that focus way too much on raiders at end game.

As for the “pay for spots” argument, I think allowing the selling of spots would seriously devalue the content itself. That is MUCH worse than having an alternative route to get the Legendary armor. How can people be fine with others paying some gold and afking at the entrance of the raid to get the item than getting it from some other kind of content?

Not to mention, if they allow selling of spots, the legendary items will require an insane grind for tokens, and other raid rewards to make. Do you really want the Legendary armor to be behind a massive wall of grind and RNG, or to replace those with challenge and skill?

Ah, I was wondering when Ohoni would post or make a thread about this. I hope it stays locked behind raid content and, I hope they implement more of these types of rewards behind other ‘hard’ content.

Unfortunately, this probably will happen. Already happens for dungeons and if you look at WoW heroic/mythic raiders sell runs all the time.

The only thing that’s very important to me is that the skin of legendary armors can only be obtained in their respective raid and nowhere else, not even the tradepost. I want to be able to look at someone wearing those skins and know they are good raiders and have done raid X.

Now, if they want to make legendary armor skins that can be obtained without raiding, well sure, why not? As long as they have different skins than the raid ones. Personally I think the top 3% of the competitive PvP players should get unique legendary armors as well, and in my opinion the tournament armor skin they made should be instant-legendary when the raid patch hits…

That’s not my fault. If you want to earn them from WvW/PvP then I want that for you. Let’s make that happen. But I don’t want to have to raid, and they shouldn’t lock Legendary armors out from me just because of that.

I agree that not everyone has the same idea of fun, that’s the main point I’m making, and why ANet shouldn’t lock Legendary armor behind only ONE form of fun, which as you make clear, not everyone will agree with. Since everyone has a different opinion of what is fun, they should make every effort to provide those rewards to as many different forms of fun as they possibly can.

The hypocrisy is visible to the naked eye.

The biggest issue with the “I hope you can only get it from raiding” mentality is, most are only saying this because it’s something they enjoy. Could you imagine the out cry and QQ that would accompany this announcement if instead of raids they announce that the armor would be available only through WvW game play or SPvP game play ?

I’m willing to be people would be singing a much different tune if this was the case. So before making comments about how it should only be available in a mode you enjoy, try to remember what it would be like for you if it was only available in a mode you hated.

1 – legendary armor drops should ONLY drop from raids PERIOD !
2 – spot selling should be monitored, and have a specific reporting sub menu.
1st time offenders get a 72 hour BAN, multiple offenders risk PERMA BAN !!!
3 – glitches, ports, content bugging / bypassing should be monitored and fixed asap to keep the content challenging and relevant.
4 – glitchers and such getting tons of rewards by exploiting / bugging the content will see their accounts reverted to a point before acquiring said rewards.

The hypocrisy is visible to the naked eye.

No hypocrisy, just a complete situation of non-exclusive concepts. to my mind:

A. Being able to earn Legendary armor through a wide variety of fun ingame experiences, let players decide how they want to earn it.

B. Being able to buy the Legendary armor off the TP, and being able to at least spend all my time actually playing the game in a way I enjoy.

C. Having to “buy a slot” in a raid and just go AFK at the entrance and surf the Internet for an hour or so rather than actually playing the game I enjoy.

2 – While I’m not exactly a fan of it, spot selling is considered perfectly legal gameplay for dungeons, I see no reason why they would penalize it for raiding. That would be hypocrisy.

3 – Certainly bugs and exploits should be patched, that’s a given.

4 – I’m fairly sure they don’t have the tech to do this, and even if they did they aren’t likely to.

You’re just changing the words, not their meaning.

You cannot get legendary armour so you have to “buy” is the same as buying the legendary weapon at TP. Let’s say you play only pvp and won’t touch pve, your only viable perspective excluding winning ToL, is to buy it. Not wanting to participate in raids is exactly the same thing. It’s your choice to use the boring alternative.

Nobody’s talking about “facerolling” anything except for straw men, but there should be alternatives that don’t involve having to participate in raiding. Raiding is not for everybody, that’s one of the main reasons why GW2 has players, because some people didn’t want to be playing WoW.

Titles are not even close. I don’t even know what title my character has on. I want visually distinct ways to differentiate the feats of a player, and armors are the strongest and coolest way to do that.

Even in WoW, where you have gear tiers and iLvl races, unique skins remain the most powerful rewards, with many of their hardest content rewarding skins, and many people would love to put their hands on Marshall armor and Grand Marshall weapons…

In fact unique armor skins are how Guild Wars 1 rewarded very hard content as well, and GW2 was supposed to do the same thing, so it’s about time Arenanet starts rewarding their players’ feats of strength with unique skins.

If you just want a game with full unrestricted access to a wardrobe you really should play a single-player game. This is an MMO and in MMOs you can’t trivially get everything.

I’m establishing that the current option is the Worst one, that there are many other potential options, and that I favor some over the others. I don’t like the concept of buying Legendaries, that is not my favorite option, but nor is it my least favorite. If forced to choose between being able to buy them off the TP or not being able to have them at all, then I choose “being able to buy them off the TP,” with no hesitation. I still remain hopeful that they will offer options that do not require raiding OR the TP though.

If you get a set of Legendary armor for completing the raid and you get a title for completing the raid, then they are the exact same thing as far as “differentiating the feats of a player.”

The only difference is that the armor skin has an inherent worth, beyond acting to "differentiate the feats of a player, " and a given player may have interest in that skin alone, without caring about the skills needed to earn it via raiding, and would want to be able to wear that skin without having to run that particular content.

I’m not ever going to get some things in this game, so are others. Even thou I have the access and ability to get them, doesn’t mean I will or want to even.

You keep trying and trying to keep away exclusive rewards. Its not happening. nor should it happen.

I’m sorry you feel that raids arent fun and worth your time. Once again, that is your own personal problem. Many others are fine with raids and the exclusive rewards they are bringing. Deal with it ok. Crying over and over won’t get a kitten thing changed about it because a lot of ppl are perfectly ok with this system.

Just because yOU don’t like it, doesn’t mean its bad. This is just your opinion on exclusive rewards and it means nothing in the grand scheme of things.

This game is not going to lose population as you so believe, due to raids. That is just one part of this expansion. There is A LOT of goodies for everyone here.

You want it, you have to run through the gauntlet of obtaining it. No more shortcuts, no more catering to laziness.

But for my part, I’m going to hold out hope and continue to push for the best possible outcomes on these issues. Ahh you always love to bring up strawmen time and time again, but people in that other thread pretty much admitted to wanting to do faceroll content. They also admitted that they didn’t want it to take too much longer than hard content, despite the fact that it is faceroll content and should take significantly longer.
