I was reading some threads and I’m kinda confused right now. I read that you can now get a character slot if you register/pre-purchase or something like that.

But what if I buy the expansion once it’s launched? Will I still get that character slot or do I need to prepurchase the game?

You need to pre-purchase the game to get the slot, and you only get the slot if you’ve been playing since before the expansion was announced (before January 23).

We can’t say for sure, all the info we have so far is about the pre-purchase offer, so after launch it may change, but probably you’ll also get a character slot if you buy HoT after its launch.

I don’t know, it seems quite clear that you have to prepurchase the expansion (as in buy it and apply the code to your account before launch). They may change their mind but I doubt it.

For all players who registered the core Guild Wars 2® game prior to January 23, 2015 and who upgrade their account by prepurchasing and registering any Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns edition before Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns‘ launch, we will add one additional character slot to your Guild Wars 2 account.

Yes it is quite clear, but again, we can’t be sure after the launch.

I don’t like this. I really hope to get more infos about this matter.

As it is now, it feels like they are “forcing” me to buy it right now. I’m playing GW2 since launch and I haven’t yet make my mind about HoT.

I’m the kind of guy who’d rather wait some actual infos about what I’m buying than blindly throw out money.

But if that means I’m missing out on a rightfully due character slot…

I personally think that you’ll get the slot after launch too.

Everything in the recent post is referring to the pre-purchase edition of the game, we have zero information at all about what will be in the release edition, which probably has not even been decided. I have a feeling that when they start designing what comes in the post-release box, that they will learn from past mistakes.

But I could be wrong, so it’s a gamble. You wont get any info about the contents of the release-edition until just before release though.

Before launch does not mean “right now”. Generally speaking you can pre-purchase or pre-order a game right up until a day or two before it launches to get the bonuses. If you like the sound of what’s in the expansion (and the feedback from the various betas) then you can pre-purchase then if you don’t then you won’t have lost anything.

I mean, I haven’t pre-purchased yet and I don’t intend to until I have more information on the contents of the expansion and the release date. I am in no rush to give them my money.

Pre purchase last until launch. So id advise waiting u til all the beta weekends and reviews hit. You will have all the info from many different sources to make the decision

It’s even worse than you think if you don’t buy HOT you’ll also not get to play as a revenant and you won’t get to play the living story anymore. I mean think about it you could get to play a whole 20 minutes more every 2 weeks, well except everytime they take a break.
