Well unless all you care about is your profit, then yea, not so much.
Virtually everything that is in the game has been asked for by some player demographic or another. As to the OP, I’ve been saying for a while that MMO’s are marathons. Because some players want them to be sprints does not change the nature of the beast.
Incase you dident know we wont be getting 19 new legendarys only 16 since they dont want to bother with new underwater ones.
Because casual players who will never grind for a legendary don’t need any content for them. I mean we hardly ever hear any complaints from legions of casual players…oh wait.
An endurance test? You can stop at any time, you are mostly sitting still while playing. It’s mostly a thing you do in your free time. If you need to feel that youre going back to your life, then you might have a problem.

3/16, actually. There are no new underwater Legendary weapons, since they always ignore those when they release new weapon sets.
It’s actually a double-blind psychology test. It tracks how many unfulfilled promises it takes for us to quit playing the game, and for Anet developers to start feel guilty.
Both we players and Anet employees are being monitored by “them”.
Its the same as any other mmo, with a twist. Its all optional. Nothing past ascended gear actually boosts you character. So its a grindfest but you don’t need to do it. Just do the funstuff. No funstuff left to do? Come back anytime, no sub.
Look i aint trying to be the devils advocate here. There has certainly been a shift towards baiting people with almost impossible rewards or gating many things they add to the game with a heavy goldgate. And the cashshop is where most of the content actually enters. Getting 2 and 1/3 armorsets for the expansion compared to the mass of outfits and glider skins and other kitten thats been getting stuffed in the cashshop just paints a bad picture.

It’s called they see profit with the gemstore, with all them free players wanting a cool outfit and what not.
nahh its not an endurance test, its actually a self assessement test. What motivates me, Intrinsic rewards or Extrinsic rewards.
If you’re the type of player who looks for Intrinsic rewards you’re golden… Takes 2 years for the way you play to get that legendary weapon done? no problem I will enjoy what content I enjoy and 2 years down the line I can finally craft that weapon I want.
If you’re after Extrinsic rewards well you’re in for some frustration. Takes 6 months of grind to get that legendary weapon and I am unlikely to enjoy more then a couple of hours of it.
Just think about it… .How long do you play an MMO? my record is probably 7 – 8 years…. whats a reward that takes 2 years to achieve in those terms? reward or no reward I’d play multiple times that so its not correct to say 2 years of game play is an endurance test. to be an endurance test it would have to span for far longer you’d play had that specific reward never existed which here is not the case.
