I think it’s a neat, immersive, and a fun way to continue to grow after level 80.

That is all.

edit: I actually kind of wish they’d lower the number of levels in the game to something like 40, but I suppose it’s a superficial concern.

I agree, it’s pretty good. Every increase in mastery pts you learn something new!

I’m kind of not too caught up on all the changes yet. Some of it just goes right over my head. But, I really like the gliding. That is fun. The bouncing mushrooms are fun, I like them a lot.

I play a Mesmer and don’t really get the chrono thing that well. I didn’t really do much with the beta, I’m afraid. Kind of a busy person with work and can’t really immerse myself to the extent other players can.

I’m not a hardcore player, not looking for too much challenge and unfortunately, the new maps are knocking me on my butt. I’m needing help getting around in there, really can’t solo the maps the way I did for the other ones.

I kind of think our characters need to be stronger, but maybe that’s what all this mastery thing is. I mastered my chronomancer thing, but don’t see any of the skills anywhere. Are they all passive?

I’m afraid I’m a perpetual noob and have to stumble around the maps and learn everything the hard way.

The masteries have a lot going for them. It’s a great feeling gaining skills and I’m eager to see what other mastery tracks will be released over time.

The only issues I have with them are:

1. They seem a bit linear. With the PACT track, I need to progress up through the levels to get to the one I want: reviving faster. The intermediate steps don’t seem as interesting, but I accept this as a necessity. Some skills will have to be prerequisites for others, as is the case with really schooling.

2. They seem to double your work. First you have to get all the experience to complete a track, at which point you would think you’ve mastered it. But you also need to collect mastery points to unlock that track. I’ll get used to this in time, but at the moment it confuses me. It’s as though you’ve finished years of university education but they won’t let you have your degree until you go out into the world and perform some errands.

3. Some of them are silly or contradictory to the core game. As I’ve mentioned elsewhere, why do I need training to jump on a mushroom? Jumping is a natural human skill and I can use dry top’s jump crystals without training. Likewise, why do I need to learn how to crawl through a wallow when I can use skritt tunnels without training? It makes sense to need training to read the languages of the various peoples that live in the jungle, or to use their machinery, or to learn the chemistry of poisons. But for common life skills seems a tad silly.

I’ve got a level 80 mesmer with about 15% world completion. I’ve been meaning to finish it off but just couldn’t be bothered.

The masteries are going to help since I’m excited to level them up while finishing world completion. Plus now that the elite spec requirements have gone down, I’ll be able to play around with chrono at the same time.

Some players may look sideways at me, but I enjoy the encouragement to go back to central Tyria, level up with noobie friends and going for 2nd world completion.
