I see…

I see Taunt being added to the gameplay, even though it doesn’t work as in other mmos, it still it what it is.
I see Defiance being a new feature for players to use.
I see Jon Peters saying “A lot of people assumed we didn’t want the trinity. It wasn’t an anti-trinity.”
I see…

I see Tank Specialization coming!

Whether it is Guardian or Warrior Spec, or even Revenant for all we know… but these are all tank class mechanics that are appearing all of a sudden, so… one might wonder!

Not saying it’s a bad or good thing… Or maybe I’m wrong

He said they are not anti trinity but he didn’t say they are pro classic tinity either. GW2 trinity is different. If they implement classic boring mmo trinity they will see no money from me or other ppl sharing my opinion.

You’re adding 2+2 and getting 22.

Guild Wars 2 has talked about a ‘soft’ trinity since before the game ever launched. Taunt mechanic is just a reversed fear. Nothing more. It’s a control effect. Instead of running away from you, your target runs toward you.

In almost all other games, taunt mechanic is an aggro control mechanism that you can keep going indefinitely.

This is definitely not what was described. I haven’t seen any true tanking stuff, and doubt it will be added to this game.

Tank specialization is not coming. There is no way taunt uptime would be high enough to make tanks even remotely viable. Plus, the game’s been out for two years now and all content so far has been easily completeable without “tanks”, so what would adding them to the game accomplish?

The designers do effectively have true tanking in their toolbox for anywhere they want to use it — it would actually feel a lot more natural in some cases than it does in trinity MMOs because of the way healing works here and the way aggro works.

But IMO, it would only ever happen as a specific mechanic for specific fights, not as some across-the-board thing.

Then again, not a traditional way of tanking but a guildwarsy one!

We have bunker guardians in sPvP which kinda works that way. Being able to use Defiance on yourself and cast, say, a AOE taunt (speculation here, mind you), would also be a way of tanking, especially PvP, giving your team a precious few seconds to turn the tide of a battle.

And you’re right about saying tanking in pve is more than boring but I didn’t say anything about aggro

Good point

Why’d you have to go and ruin his fun?

I can’t wait for the xpack to launch and hear all the trinity lovers cry their hearts out on the forums because of these expectations they’ve been building up since they heard a few familiar words.

If here they fall they shall live on when ever you cry “For Ascalon!”

I would hope that the xpac would prove them wrong once and for all about the trinity being necessary, and all we’d hear is silence from them as they try to save face…

Just to be clear, I never said I liked the trinity! I’m quite happy with the game as it is
