I just thought of a fun little idea that might put some variety, reward and flavor in some weapon and utility skills. These can also be designed to reward players for changing up how they use certain skills so there is incentive to perform. How that happens will require consultation by people who can get the most out of skills.

This doesn’t have to be done asap but could be part of feature pack in the future, maybe.

Anyway, what I mean by Conditionals is an extra boost that is only granted when used in a way that fulfills the requirements. Essentially:

If X occurs, skill does Y.

And Conditionals can do everything from punishing poor usage to adding effects and changing how the skill works altogether. Examples could be:

  • Shatter: If target is chilled, this attack does 20% more damage.
  • Direct Injection: If target has more than 5 stacks of bleeding, Poison duration is doubled.
  • Thrill of Victory: If target is killed or downed (PvP only), heal X health.
  • Synergy: If X stat is higher than Y stat, skill becomes:
    <insert different skill facts here>
  • Powerhouse: If a stack of stability was removedwith this skill, it removes 2 instead.
  • ETC.

Again this is just an idea and something like this already exists on some skills. This idea are for those skills that really have no other purpose other than to damage or does things but does not have any much of an impact. The lack of utility makes them boring. Even if they do have utility, half the time nobody uses them because the utility of it is lackluster. Slapping on a Conditional would not only enhance the utility of the skill but reward players when used at the proper moments.

Seems like a lot of work to get this system polished but I like the idea a lot. Maybe this will be up in time for the next expansion… Thicker Than Water, with new race Largos against bubbles.

Redress: if critically hit in the last 3 seconds this skill does 50% more damage.

There are already many skill/traits that work like this.
what i can dream of is some polishing because sometimes it just feels so random ;-)

Sounds cool, but way too complicated to ever make its way into GW2. Remember, this is the game where they removed cow-feeding from a side quest because it was apparently not clear enough how to do it.
