Hey guys!
I just returned to the game, only to see there is an expansion coming. I bought the game about 2 years ago, so i’m not a f2p player, but if i reach max level, can i do anything without the expansion pack, or everybody will play the new stuff that i won’t be able to?

You still need to buy the expansion for xpac content. Core game accounts without the xpac are in a weird limbo right now with HoT, since they have access to all paid features, but not expansion content. New accounts are upgraded straight up HoT for buying the game.

The only announced features you will get access to are the pvp leagues and new wvw borderland. There may be other stuff I’m forgetting.

Yea, i know about the free players get both the core+HoT, i have the Core, but i don’t think i can afford the HoT exp right now, thats why i asked :S

You will be able to do everything you do right now. But you won’t have access to the new content. Raids, the new maps, the elite specialisation, LS3, etc.

What I’m not sure is thing like Fractals. Will you be able to reach level 100 or you will be stuck at level 50 I have no idea.

There will be a new WvW map that’s free, some QoL changes, you can still play the game without the xpac. If you want to raid, play an elite spec, PvE in the jungle, then yes you will need the xpac.

Free accounts have access to the core game with restrictions. They have no access to HoT unless they choose to purchase the game.

Masteries, Elite specs, Revenant, Raids, and most Guild Hall related things are locked behind the purchase of the expansion.

Stronghold (pvp), Desert Borderlands (wvw), will be available to everyone. As are the fractals changes.

If you can’t afford the xpack right now, thats ok. You can buy it a in a few months. Maybe it’ll even go on sale for xmas.

2. As others have said, when HoT releases there are some features which will come for free for all players, not just for HoT players. Mainly the new WvW borderlands map, various changes to WvW mechanics, the new SPvP map, various changes to Fractals, map bonus rewards and some (but not all) of the new guild features.

You can still play normal core game + new pvp + WvW. So there are still plenty to do even you don’t buy HoT now. You can not play revenant or new areas what comes with HoT. If you change later your mind, you can always buy HoT later. HoT is not vanishing anywhere after release day. You have plenty of time save money or ask someone buy it to you present later.

So don’t worry there are many other players who are in same situation. I know at least 9 players who haven’t bought HoT yet. They want to see and hear first how it is and maybe wait some discounts
