Ok so Im thinking about buying POF, I dont have HOT though and I was wondering what important stuff I will miss out on if I don’t buy HOT..

-The elite specs from HOT
-Viper’s stat (is the new stat set comparable?)
Anything else?

Gliding is pretty big in my opinion.

As above, gliding is very useful imo.

Stat combos as you said, not just vipers but all the others introduced in LS3.

LS3 which requires HoT to play it.

Elite Spec (variety)

All skins associated with HoT (Elite spec armor piece and Weapons, Bladed/Leystone armor, Machined Weapons etc)

Runes and Sigils exclusive to HoT.

Minis/tonics only obtainable from HoT maps (Gerent Mini, Holographic Zinn, Embiggining/Miniature Tonics etc)

HoT is discounted if you buy it in a bundle with PoF.

• The HoT story has its moments.
• The Elite Spec collections offer unique skins, if that matters to you.
• Also, Living Story Season 3 has a dual unlock requirement. If you’ve been playing enough (i.e., you logged in at least once during each story step’s debut period) you’ve fulfilled requirement one. Requirement two is owning HoT.

For me HoT is a whole load of bad points with only one good point: gliding. But i do love gliding. Your mileage may vary.

Owning Heart of Thorns isn’t required to access Path of Fire content. However, some content is exclusive to Heart of Thorns.

• You must purchase Heart of Thorns to unlock and use the gliding mastery, as well as all other masteries introduced in and exclusive to that expansion. You will be able to complete all of the content in Path of Fire without the use of any Heart of Thorns-exclusive masteries.

• You must purchase Heart of Thorns to unlock and use the 9 elite specializations introduced with that expansion.

• Path of Fire includes access to the revenant profession, but not the Herald elite specialization. If you only own Path of Fire, you will be able to create a revenant character and unlock the Renegade elite specialization.

• You must purchase Heart of Thorns to claim the new guild hall released in Path of Fire, and access the Scribe crafting discipline to fully upgrade your guild hall.

What about raids and fractals introduced with HoT? Anyway, I think 20€ more is really not much. I really would buy it.

Can’t non-HoT players participate in Raids and Fractals (all) now?

I don’t believe I’ve seen any threads where players were lamenting being locked out of Raids or Fractals because of purchase decisions (or lack thereof).

The legendary crafting mastery is a core Tyria mastery.

But the gen 2 legendaries need HoT specific items (e.g. HoT map completion, airship oil, etc) so unless alternatives are created for PoF, you may not be able to make the HoT legendaries.

Elites, glding masteries, mushroom masteries, content.
Personally i want always to have the full experience, so i also get that ls2 bundle as well.

Fractals are core content and will be available to everyone, including those that do not own any of the expansions.

Raids use Heart of Thorns masteries so even if you are able to enter Heart of Thorns raids (which I find unlikely) you wont’ be able to complete all of them without Heart of Thorns. And the opposite will probably be true for the Path of Fire raids.

Without HoT you do not get:
Revenant class
HoT Elite Specs
HoT LWS3 items/stat combos
The Ability to claim Guild Halls
Scribe Crafting class
Gliding and Gliders
LWS3 in general
Legendary Armor/Weapons from HoT

Supposedly if you get PoF and HoT together you get a discount on the bundle…not sure.

You absolutely get access to the Revenant Profession; what you do not get is access to the Revenant’s HoT Elite Specialization. You will get access to the Revenant’s PoF Elite Specialization with purchase of PoF.

Gliding is the biggest one, IMO. But all the rest are very relevant too. I truly don’t think anyone should buy PoF alone.

Two key things that make HoT worth it (particularly now that it’ll be discounted with PoF)

Elite Specs: Now that we’re getting our second batch of elites, the notion is that they should (eventually) be toned to be on par with HoT elites, in the sense that you’ll have two very viable and powerful ways to play each toon.

I say eventually because its evident that they will be OP at first, but a few months after release its expected HoT traitlines to be on equal footing, just a different way to play each toon.

Gliding: Because… gliding

Gliding for 1 but isn’t needed in the new maps apparently. Certain Stat combination/sigils/runes. And of course the specialiaztion. Granted the new xpac will have its own new set of goodies does not necessarily mean it will be better. For example the scrapper is poor in pve and wvw but fantastic in pvp.

There is very little to do in the core world.

Iirc, You also need HoT to be able to take full advantage of the Guild Hall services.

Having recently bought HoT and returned to GW2, this.
You’ll also miss needing about 5 masteries at once to get anywhere on the horribly designed maze of maps but only being able to grind one at a time. You’ll miss near 100% hero points that require a group to complete or a lot of kiting/time. You’ll miss some of the most annoying story line encounters in the game, usually no option drawn out mechanic fights that hand hold you through the tactics but then make you spend far too long in an end of chapter boss fight using them, but made more annoying by over use of AOE attacks.

You’ll miss having about 20 new currencies and junk items all designed to fill up your bags but no idea if you can actually delete them or not safely, mastery locked vendors, vry little explanation.

On the plus side, the story isn’t bad, gliders and some new abilities are nice. Auric Basin is a good map (the only one so far) and a couple new meta events are quite fun.

I’m glad I only paid £10 for it, I’m not saying everyone won’t like it. And tbh I’ve had my money worth, but honestly right now I’m mainly slogging through the storyline and maps to get into the new Orr zones and the next LS story. I was always more of a fan of the Orr stuff. Preordered PoF also and that does look cool.

Not a fan of big maze vertical maps honestly, at least not done like HoT’s were.

Even if you don’t intend to play the content, I would pay $20 for gliding.
