So…

About Trahearne.

I’ve just completed the latest part of Heart of Thorns, where we defeat Mordremoth but have to kill Trahearne. I am actually mourning him (is that possible?). And I’m also thinking, what if he can come back? I mean, Rytlock figured out how to come back from the Mists, and he’s just a Charr warrior. If anyone can figure it out, it’s Trahearne, the necromancer-scholar.

(Check me on that: Rytlock did die, right? I actually never did those story chapters, so I never saw him die for sure.)

So, what do you think? Is it possible that Trahearne could come back in future updates?

No, Rytlock did not die (that we saw). He saw his sword, his best bet for ending the ghost infestation of his country, being pulled into the mists. He jumped in after it, and the portal closed behind him.

As a living being, there would be nothing to keep him from coming back, IF he could find a portal that would lead him back to the correct world.

(Fun side fact: We’re fighting other worlds, maybe even other versions of Tyria, in WvW. There’s nothing to say that the Rytlock that we get back is OUR Rytlock. He could be from “Tyria 2”, and when we find out we have to go find our Rytlock, which unleashes a Zhaitan from another world onto all Tyrias, creating a Crisis on Infinite Tyrias.)

Sarcasm, delivered with a
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

Thought of this too. But more out of sulking than anything else, I have to admit.

TBH I never liked Trahearne through the whole vanilla story. I was happy with the expansion cuz I thought we might not see him ever again since he fullfilled his Wyld Hunt . But I guess I was wrong
So it kind of made me happy that he finally died as he should – converted to dragon minion or I’m not really sure how to call it. I hope he would never return. I doubt that they will resurrect him but I’m worried of him returning as something like The Pale Tree or something. And as for legendary stances we still miss a lot better and more important characters from GW1 as legends so I hope they wont go with Trahearne stance.

So, it might be possible? And is there an expansion out that’s after this? I mean, is there a time that’s coming up? Sorry, I have no idea how to word that.

And to the Trahearne haters, just know that he awakened as he was; he couldn’t help that his purpose was to cleanse Orr, or that he was to become Marshal of the Pact. The Pale Tree chose him; therefore, he was. He served Tyria selflessly and sacrificed himself countless times, even at the end, when Mordremoth had him in his claws and had planted a seed in his mind. Trahearne, “strong as iron,” was the answer to killing a stinking dragon! Without him, we may never have entered Mordremoth’s mind to exterminate him.

I do understand where you’re coming from, though. I know it can be frustrating that he took a lot of the credit. But each of us has a part to play, and that was his part.

He served his purpose for the old story. Personally glad he’s gone, because I’m hoping for something more mood-congruous to take his place.

Yes, but you have to remember that the old story determines the new.

I hope that’s the role Almorra Soulkeeper’s going to be filling from now on.

Though I wouldn’t mind Galina Edgecrusher and Snarl Backdraft making a return. (Frankly, I’d have rather had those two in my guild than Rytlock, Braham, and Rox. Then again, if it were up to me, I’d have completely kicked Destiny’s Edge to the curb before we even marched on Zhaitan, and build my own with Laranthir, Lord Faren, Ellie, Snarl Backdraft and Galina Edgecrusher. No need for Norns)

I would only take Faren if we’re guaranteed he will sacrifice himself to kill the next dragon.

Kormir took fairly stable magic of Abaddon, like Abaddon did with his predecessor. Trahearne was subjected to raw unstable magic of an elder dragon. I’m sure there’s some huge differences between doing this in the mists (like with Kormir) and in Tyria as well.

I hope he gets to fight the next dragon single-handedly, and wins through accident.

In fact, I was kind of disappointed that Mordremoth simply remained an arrogant fool throughout the final fight with him in HoT – I’d have preferred he change strategy, draw an illusion of someone to get the Commander to merely stop fighting (instead of demanding submission), break the Commander’s control… and, as he’s so close to winning, Lord Faren comes swinging in to save the day (Mentally. In actuality, he’s been captured and put in a blighting pod. We should totally have fought beside/against a Blighted Swordmaster Faren), rallying the commander and fighting Mordremoth’s Mind with Completely Ridiculous Nonsense.

After all – There can only be one lord of the jungle, and Mordremoth is neither running around in a furry loincloth, nor possessing any title, deed, or claim to nobility recognized by any of the governments of Tyria, unlike Lord Faren.

Not something to bark about? The marshal of the Pact was killed. And about the Sylvari committing “treeson,” did you miss the part about Mordremoth taking over their minds? The weak were vulnerable to his power; and you must remember that it wasn’t just Sylvari who heard his call. It was every race. And the final thing you must remember is that Trahearne, even in the end, had strength; could you have opened a path into the jungle dragon’s mind while it had its roots in your body and mind?

Trahearne was our Marshal, and he deserves that respect at least. I’m just miffed that even ANET didn’t give him honor in-game. We mourned for Eir, carved her a statue, which she thoroughly deserved. But Trahearne? The marshal got nothing, just a mention of his death.

I literally passed this post when I posted mine; sorry! I just posted something about this. I think he should have gotten something too, at least a few words said in his honor. Each race, depending on what the player was, could have done something unique to his or her culture. As a Norn, I would have told his legend, regardless that he was a sylvari. More like Taster’s Choice. Still, I didn’t want Trahearnia to die, I just wanted him to get out of the way. He should have resigned as Leader of the Pact and stayed in Orr to oversee its restoration, thereby opening up the other half of the continent for exploration and adventure! He had no business leading a military force, as his blunders in LS2 so whimsically illustrate.

There are parts of this i wont argue because they arent worth it, but this one… the fact that it all boils down to trehearne saving the day in the end is just complete and utter Bunk… Who found his kitten in the middle of all that kitten to begin with hmm? who was he gonna open that portal for? who went thru that entire story lookin for his kitten hmm? Was he gonna grab that sword and shove it in his own heart? could he have stopped mordys mind if WE hadnt shown up? cuz he sure as hell wasnt gonna walk his own kitten outa there….

You can love and adore him all you want, butthey guy was one total walking cluster kitten of a character. Yes he did a few things to make the story go, but he was in no way qualified to be a leader. He did what he was meant to do, and that was to die HELPING US kill mordy. Im not knocking his role, it had its place, but there is no way he was the reason for EVERYTHING being saved as people are making it out to look like.

Beginning with the original personal story I considered Trahearne to be a potential traitor as he actively worked against the stated goals of the story. Having him in the group actually reduced my/our effectiveness compared to not having him around. I honestly thought that there might come a time when we found out that the great expert on Orr had fallen under the influence of Zhaitan and was working against the pact.

Now, of course, I know that he wasn’t an evil being in service to one of the great dragons…just kind of incompetent.

Trahearne was only ill-recieved by non-Sylvari, and worst by Charr players. The problem wasn’t necessarily with Trahearne as much as it was with the Commander (In the case of the Charr, you go from a commander, to a recruit, then nominal commander – but Trahearne keeps getting the commander’s lines)

I think Concordia was the worst mission for Trahearne, and the one that is most guilty of “Trahearne takes credit for the player’s accomplishments”. It’s an all-around awful mission that screwed everything up.

This may be a slight derail, but something strikes me on the “taking credit” argument. I have not seen a single complaint that Faren’s taking our credit for training with Bongo, even though all the dialogue is written as if he’s one-on-one with Bongo while the nobles cheer. Our zerg (or small handful) of PC’s is there to advance the mechanics of the fight but we are simply representing Faren’s actions.

I’m fine with this, I don’t mind being subsumed into the story as a mechanic so I can see it advance without being the hero. Which might be why I have never felt upstaged by Trahearne. I also appreciate calm rationality so he never felt unemotional to me, just cool and collected. I didn’t want him to die and it seemed obvious to me he was ended as he was to please the anti-Trahearne voices while letting him at least make the heroic choice to accept death rather than life at the cost of the world. But why do the people who vehemently feel Trahearne was a dull stick who got all the credit not kvetch about us turning into Faren’s fighting skill in Bongo’s Hideaway?

Thank you! These are my sentiments exactly.

To add on to that, I think we also need to realize (did I say this earlier? I don’t know. No harm in saying it twice) is that we ARE part of a larger picture. Tyria is not just about us; there are other heroes in the world (as Trahearne was), and we have to remember that victory is not won by one person alone; it is won by many who work together with a common goal. So no, we can’t just take all the credit. That’s unrealistic, and I think this game does strive for a lot of reality in its story.

I’m the same with you on Trahearne. For the rest, to each his own, but yes, I felt the same way about Eir. I loved Eir too, as a mentor, looked up to her, but Trahearne I loved as the closest of friends. I felt as if we had an understanding.

But I’m not about to bash the rest of the remaining Pact or Destiny’s Edge. I’ve still a loyalty to them. But ultimately, I fight for Trahearne, as I always have.

Im not knocking his role, it had its place, but there is no way he was the reason for EVERYTHING being saved as people are making it out to look like.

You’re completely right; it was a team effort to kill Mordremoth. The point I’m making is that without Trahearne, we wouldn’t have defeated the jungle dragon, and we needed him as marshal of the Pact to kill Zhaitan. He wasn’t given the honor he deserved; whether people liked him or not, he was the marshal, and he did a darned good job of it.

…. Relax. Trahearne is fine. Must be some sort of silly rumor. I just finished the Bloodstone Fen stuff and I got a message to meet him at Fort Trinity. I’ll talk with him about it then.

I am still trying to figure out how to tell Logan that Queen Jennah was actually a Veteran Risen Mesmer and that I had to put her down. He’ll be sad.

There are no words to describe how utterly confused I am right now XD Good job on that.

Oh, the joys of doing the story out of order xD

I was somewhat weirded-out by the whole Eir deal during LWS3.

Like… Trahearne was 100x more important than Eir during both the main story and HoT, yet we hear like one line of dialogue about Trahearne, yet have a whole mission dedicated to remembering Eir.

I’ll admit she was a large part of the Norn personal story, but for every other race it just doesn’t make any sense.

Can’t they just re-plant him and see if he grows back?

Trahearne is not Groot…as far as we know…

I agree. I miss her too, but Trahearne was far more integral – and close to me.

I can’t even say I miss her… Barely ever met her and had no chance to get close.

As for Trahearne haters – I’d really like to know how many people actually really dislike him and how many are just mindlessly following the idea because they herad/read it somewhere and possibly think it cool.

(I somehow made up a fanfic personal story chapter in which my sylvari PC can’t bring himself to go and tell the Pale Tree he killed Trahearne, so instead he ends up in LA drowning himself in booze until a norn guy sent by Braham shows up and literally drags him over to Hoelbrak… Not very happy I felt the need to do so.)
