So there i was in dragonstand last night, heart pumping, People flying around…

Over the past hour we had successfully made our way to the final event. It was exciting, first time on the map doing a major event! The boss was at 10% almost dead, I could feel that chest, the reward almost there and bam map closes and teleports us all out.

Apparently at the beginning of the creation of this map it had given players the option to change maps for a reward.. Oddly this map was very very full of people and the chances of recreating this full of a map at that time of night were slim. Halfway through progression people ignored it…I was worried felt for sure this wasn’t a good thing.

Fast forward to later, fighting on top of the floating islands…Turns out I was right, the whole map shut down and fragmented us all into a bunch of other maps, maps that did not have the event running or at the same level.

There needs to be some sort of safety on this. Maps that are full of people should never be closed. Honestly I went to bed after that I guess I will have to try again later…
On a side note Beware! I hope they change this, its not necessarily a bug persay but there should be some safety on it.

On a side note, the map we were moved into popped up the same move now or later message so it was about to happen all over again…

I haven’t experienced it yet but I had wondered if these map closures were related to the Low Pop Map Closing “Feature”. It would seem HoT has a lot of problems with map populations that I hope they fix.

1. Maps need to re-check their population before actually closing.
2. New maps should only be created when ALL existing maps are almost full. Why do players HAVE to use the lfg to find a decent map…because they always log into an empty map. If players could log into decent maps they wouldn’t have to make maps even emptier by map hopping to find a full one.

The real issue is that dragon stand (and AB, and TD, VB its a part of the in game world so its understandable) is on a defined 2 hour cycle. Its not an issue that people taxied out of that map.

Every 2 hours, ALL DS maps reset and ALL DS maps start with a 2 hour timer to defeat the boss regardless of map progress, population etc. IMHO, what should happen is a DS map in instantiated, there is 1 “prep” event per lane. Once that single event is done then and only then do the real events start, the timers on the whole map start and once the timer runs out, Mordy wins and the map closes as it is now. This would also (like I mentioned in a post about the enormous downtime before gerent) ensure that people are able to get into DS maps at different stages at different times through the day instead of them only starting every 2 hours.

I think the 2 hour cycle exists so that players can form their own routines such as: Run Verdant Brink Night bosses, hop over to Tangled Depths where the Chak Gerent is about to start (if anyone ever ran that), then jump over to Auric Basin in time for the Octovine, and then they have the choice to either start the loop again or hop over to organize the start of Dragon’s Stand. Everything is set up so that the player knows in advance where they want to be and can time their routines around that.

on the other hand, silverwastes has no timer at all and you can find taxis to an event map just starting, halfway done, nearing breach and even preVW whenever you want. I dont think players planning runs ahead of time is really that big of an issue.

I feel taxi-ing is one of the major flaws though. The fact that players can’t just log in and play is a significant problem. They first log in, find they are in an empty map, and then have to play the LFG game. They have to abandon their friends so that they can party hop to find an instance they like and then there’s no guarantee their friends will be able to make it into the new instance. Also, at least half of the taxi LFG posts are bogus. They promise an organized map and you end up in another empty map/disorganized/tagless map. Players should already be placed into quality/filled maps to begin with.

That is a concern I completely understand, but I have found the LFG game to be far worse a it stands right now. I go to DS and pop up LFG for a organize map (so we are already at that point) last night it was like the 7th or 8th map that I could finally taxi into something that wasnt full that at the very least had a commander trying to organize. If I dont get into a map in the first little while, forget it, any map I do get in likely wont be organized and will fail meaning I wouldnt be able to play the content I had planned to successfully unless I wanted to wait another 2 hours.

If a person only has 2 hours most of the time and that 2 hours straddles DS reset, they are just plain out of luck.

Prior to the expac the only times I ever felt like I was playing LFG wars was trying to get into a TTS triple trouble run (glad I found ATT after that), or back before people knew how to set up Teq in under 2 minutes.

It needs a recheck of the map at the end. If it is full, or the meta-event final boss engaged, it should not close. I don’t know if this is hard to implement but thats my suggestion.

This mainly happens on HOT maps because HOT meta events now run around an hour long. So it wasnt an issue before as this is new to GW2 with the introduction of the system.

P.S. just to be clear we hadn’t lost the fight due to the event timer passing, specifically the event timer was still up and we were moved midway through it, instantly off the map onto a new map. The timer for this final event was not up when the map closed.

ahh ok, thats the way it sounded. I havent run into that issue yet.

well regardless…….i still stand by my criticism of the hard timed 2 hour map events lol

Had this happened in VB aswell. Map was full for the Tarir event and the message to volunteer because there aren’t enough people popped up.

Had this happen on a VB as well.

We were in the middle of finishing off the last boss on Night, we had it going on T4. Then it popped up and gave us the Teleport notification. We had a full map, we been taxing people, and there was at least half a dozen commanders running around organizing it. Thankfully for us, we still had plenty of time to finish. Though it still started the whole “map shutdown”, even though it was full.

Something is wrong.

I was there too when this happened. I could understand if it was under the impression that the map’s population was still low, but the icon went away once people started piling in to get it done. I even looked at the playback footage to see that the map closing icon had indeed gone away. If the game attempts to close every low population map without regard for time remaining to get the meta done, it’s literally screwing us by design.

Don’t organize a map with 30 min left on it?
If you shuttle people into the map the window will go away.

It closed only because of the Low-Population-Map-closing. This is awful. Seems like a bug…

For all who talked about how the map shouldn’t close once the Mouth is engaged. This is already happening. Reached the Mouth with ~ 30 Minutes left, took extremely long to kill it, still had our 15 Minutes to explore… When the Map finally closed, the new maps had already run for 10 Minutes. So no, as long as you don’t fail the fight against the Mouth, the Map will stay until the last minute of the Exploring Phase.

I’ve had this happen as well, at about the same percentage. Map suddenly closes with zero warning and we’re all dragged into a silent Dragon’s Domain.

I can’t speak to Dragon’s Stand, but as far as Auric Basin and Verdant Brink go, I’ve had the maps shut down when there was clearly a viable population both a the time the first request popped and when the map finally closed.

More times than not, I feel like I’ve moved from a viable map to one with less population.

I’ve also had maps close – legitimately – because of a low population, but I still find this frustrating due to the reward system. There’s nothing more soul crushing than to have a very high participation rating on a map and just be forced to lose it.
