You heathen! Game boxes are a dying breed in this era of digital sales they should be cherished mementos of an era that is eventually going to end (How can collectors make due without boxes to collect… the disaster).
Seriously though, just write the old core game key on a post-it note and put it alongside the HoT key, in the case that they do ask for it, but everything points to it that they won’t. You only see a single entry when logged into arena.net with your account after applying a HoT key.
Almost 100% positive that the HoT code completely replaces your old code. I do recommend saving the old code somewhere, maybe not on a Post-It note though (those can get lost!). Save it in a Notepad file on your computer or something.

I did not ask what to do with my old game boxes, but what happens with key from GW2 Core, if it’s required in support or not, so I can know if I should care about it or not.
I am curious if GW2 Core Key is requested in support if I have a GW2 HoT Key; if HoT Key replaces Core Key.

It wouldn’t be required, we both just suggest keeping it somewhere safe. You would absolutely be able to do your account things with just the HoT code since that code would be applied to the account.
I opened up support ticket number 1655020.
Official response from GM Walkabout:
“When you apply a Heart of Thorns serial key to your existing Guild Wars 2 account, you are stacking keys, which means your account will have 2 serial codes applied to it. With regards to which serial code you will need to keep, I highly encourage you to keep both of your serial codes just in case.”
Official response from support staff Alex Cruz:
“You can Provide both keys, the Guild Wars 2 key in the only field like this (111111-11111-1111-111-1111111 GW2). (222222-22222-2222-222-2222222 HOT).”
In conclusion all veteran players must keep both codes in a very safe place, and provide them both when requesting for help in support.

Except it has been stated in the Account Issues sub-forum multiple times that it is not absolutely necessary to have access to your Serial Key to seek assistance. It can, however, speed up the process.

My guess is the serial code is simply an easy way for them to prove you are the original owner of the account, because it’s unique to your account and cannot be found anywhere in-game or publicly accessible online (unless for some reason you posted it on the forum or something).
So either code could work. But like other people said probably a good idea to save both just in case.
