Just checked “news”.. LS3 confirmed. Another recap..I dont even..

Cant w8 to that awesome next blog soon about “mushroom lore” or another recap.

Recap of all recaps we had so far, a bit more lore about how gliders were invented and maybe a sentence about awesome rewards and/or challanges.

Where is this article? I’m looking on the front page and can’t see it anywhere.

It’s just the regular, expected summary of PoI for those who missed it. That’s what we get at the start of the week. Only the cynics and pessimists see a perfectly ordinary PoI summary as proof ANet is never going to tell us anything new.

Now, if we get to Friday and nothing new was revealed, then I’ll join in a bit of ennui.

You can..ya know..watch it on youtube or their twitch. Whats the point in releasing recap of it then? Before we used to get new info, now olny recap of recaps. In b4 recap of stronghold/wvw in 2 days..or mushroom lore.. Honestly i wont be surprised at all.

Not everyone have the ability to watch the stream and hear what they are saying, even if it is on youtube?

Does it somehow hurt you that they give those people the ability to read the information instead?

We have been given new info at least once every week the last couple of weeks. You might not be interested in the information, but that doesn’t mean it is not there.

Looking at how many people watched the poi live i doubt that people was interesed at all. You know it well from your reddit threads. If they want to write recap sure, go ahead. But dont forget to release new info as it happens over few weeks already. Futher arguing with you is pointless as i already made some “good” opinion about you, you can go figure it out. I will just ignore any of your future posts aka blocklist. Bye

And like i mentioned previously in different post i prefer to learn that stuff ingame…just like any RP player that has even a bit of self respect instead…..
Also if they put that info on blogs, a new player most likely wont have any idea about that stuff if they wont add it in game unless they use google – inst that sad? Same goes for LS1.

I agree with you to a certain degree, it’s nice to be excited for the expansion but blasting Anet for giving not enough info is kinda unreasonable. I do see where you are coming from though, Anet tends to go the “we can’t talk about that right now” PR talk when it comes to certain situations and it’s annoying when they do that. Im sure they don’t want to repeat the Occupy SAB situation again, so it’s up to them really.

For more times than I can recall now, if you really want to know how much land mass this is going to encompass you can pretty easily find out just from looking at your world map as it currently is. Open the world map, go down to Maguuma and look at the area West and South of Silverwastes/Dry Top/Rata Sum…all that area, including Magus Falls is in this expansion, with 3 levels of Biomes. If you don’t think I’m right, that’s your problem, but all you have to do to know this is some in-game character statements that state Mordremoth is somewhere to the West in Magus Falls and the current location of Silverwastes/Dry Top.

I’m gonna have to add to the nay-saying. The ‘new’ info releases are anemic at best, flat-lined and redundant at worst (three weeks straight of Stronghold? Why are they still talking about that? Especially since Revenants only got one week so far, perhaps the biggest feature that might actually change the game).

It’s been what, three months now? Either the expansion is still a year or two out there (since this level of content was what I saw from GW2 original release a year or two before it was released) or they’ve REALLY taken the whole ’don’t say anything at all until it releases in two days’ to heart. Which is sad, since this is a bloody expansion! This is the best time to talk about what’s coming.

I was really hoping for announcements like they did for the feature packs with a general outline of what’s going to be discussed weekly, then a fleshed out announcement when the proper week came around.

Example:

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/feature-packs/

They have yet to talk about:

8/8 specializations to actually discuss in real depth, so far all we know is Rangers get staff and are called druids and Necromancers get greatswords for a fact. Nothing about how their new mechanics work, what the new skills are like, or even HOW you specialize and how much of a grind it might be (one every two weeks gives them 16 weeks from that alone, the path to specialize could be another two weeks).

The glowing race from the trailer (I’d like to hear about them more than Hylek to be honest, sorry but even though the Hylek in game now have great lore to them basically all I care about is the red ones are mean, the orange ones might be mean, and the blue/green are generally friendly). Theres another two weeks. (20 now, that’s over 1/3 of a year)

Guild Halls (another 2 weeks, up to 22 now)

And general fluff pieces (new armors/weapons/outfits/the other masteries) which could probably add another 10 weeks.

Basically, if they started discussing the real meat of the expansion at the pace they’re going they have 32 weeks until release. Which means they’ll release on December 1st… after very nearly a FULL YEAR of nothing to improve the game. I feel bad for PvP/WvWers, they’ll have 16 weeks (every other one, since apparently PvP information is given the weeks PvE isn’t) touching only on Borderlands and Stronghold. Well I guess they’ll have 3-4 more PvP tournaments as well to be busy with.

I dunno, but nearly a full year of nothing meaningful added to an MMO? I don’t think that’s normal, is it? Especially not for one that’s already been around for three years and already had a previous game that had full- yes they were also stand alone games- expansions every six months to a year. FULL expansions that added massive maps, two professions, hundreds of skills, dozens of armor, complete stories where your character actually spoke and had- granted not too exciting- animations to watch instead of a green screen behind two people staring at each other every year while they were working on it before focusing on GW2.

More and more HoT looks like it’s going to be a major let down from a company that KNOWS better.

I snipped the other BS because it’s irrelevant, as for the above, your numbers are wrong. There’s 9 specializations(Revenant gets 1 too), and it will be 1 per week, so that’s 9 weeks. Guild Halls will also most likely be 1 week, and another week for the additional Revenant information they said that would be coming. That’s a total of 11 weeks, practically one third of your count and a more realistic schedule. What you also have to add to that though are the Beta’s and then the tweaking from what ever feed back is given after those…there’s your additional time that could be anywhere from 2 weeks to 3 months, all depending on player feedback and what we break.

As for other topics like new weapons, armors, etc….well we already know there aren’t going to be any new weapons, as for new skins, that’s something you don’t even have to talk about before release. These blog posts and in depth looks are only for the major features in HoT, those they’ve already talked about, I highly doubt they would talk about again(except for Revenant). Why because then there’s nothing for the players to discover when you actually start playing the game.

The reason people are being generous about the weeks they spend discussing a particular topic is because lately they’ve been shown to do lots of recaps for information given prior to the current week. Then recaps for the recaps.

Regardless of whether they do recaps or not. At the pace of information they are deciding to share with us, they do seem to have enough to talk about between now and the release of the expansion without it having to feel like we’re starved for information (we being the very minority who check on the game weekly).

They are probably also holding back reveals for particular summer conventions and moments coming up, and I was correct in them doing covert interviews! (Like the one they had with the Hylek and then a previous one that included Colin, I can’t recall the topic but I think it was a Lewis B interview).

EDIT: Arena Net has a plan for sure, with contingencies of course, they’re just being hush hush about it. I’m only trying to take my mind off the game as a whole in the meanwhile until some specialization information pops up.

less info = less hype

Anet do things as slow as possible with max hype

Mostly because I am hype and want the expansion to come out,

I was really hyped about the expansion, but now with the hype going down, i’m starting to see more and more of the truth

And many others, so on:

This is exactly “why we can’t have nice things” – because the so-called community can’t take anything in a mature way.
- They don’t say anything – it’s bad.
- They say anything – it’s always not enough, people get excited like there’s no tomorrow for 2 days and then they start complaining about “hype trains crashing” and whatnot.
- They say everything – that’s obviously bad, because they’re then locked to any changes (and there certainly will be changes

If people would just sit and not go drama about every single word, both said and unsaid, they wouldn’t be so disappointed with every possible outcome. The word “hype” should go under the kitten-filter for people’s own safety – because they cut themselves with it like a razor.

That being said, few months of no content and no information is not good, maybe revealing it too early was a mistake, but what’s done is done, at least they’re not making things worse.

actually on release they changed a ton of stuff, an no one complained, they also told people a lot of information.
trait system totaly changed
legendaries changed
skill points changed
utilities became teired
lore books canceled.
stats changed
energy

list goes on. So i would say the lack of info has more to do with it than anything

I understand the neccessity of the hype train – drives people towards the game, increasing interest which ulitimately is win win all round even for us the players (As no players results in no game).

However what I don’t understand is the need to reveal the games new lore, discoveries we should be making through play not the “weekly” posts we’re receiving – not to mention the similarity between posts that appears just to cover ground already tread.

My honest oppinion is that any information given between now and release shouldn’t reveal too much lore, mechanics and features should be all we discover before entering the unknown.

My point is I don’t want to feel like I’m playing through something for the second time the first time round…

I’m likely alone in what I think, but I figure I won’t know until I say something! Let me know what you think about the recent updates we’ve been getting about HoT.

The problem is they want to release at least 1 blog post a week, and I assume they want to stretch it to launch (or close to).

Back when it was first announced, most of us assumed it’d be coming out around the 3rd year anniversary. And you could mostly count the weeks via revealed content.

2 weeks Rev
9 weeks specializations
2 weeks stronghold (think we’ve already gotten 3)
2 weeks WvW maps
etc…

The problem they really haven’t revealed any “new” information in a while. Stronghold seems to be exhausted, as should WvW (but I could see them trying to get another week of info out of it). That leaves the specializations, the rev, the mastery system, guild halls (and any other related guild info), and new map or story bits.

We still need to learn (officially) what the other Rev legends are, and his other trait lines, weapons, etc. are.

We still need any knowledge about specializations whatsoever. My assumption is they’ll have some kind of broad overview for a week before they reveal any specifics. As people will quickly point out, we have no clue how special the specializations will feel. How much will the profession mechanic change, how will classes who only get an offhand still feel they are not being jiped, and officially what are the weapons that each class gets? Or, how are the vanilla classes being updated (if at all) to make people still want to play them over their shiny new counterparts.

Any info on guild halls? How to build them/what will it cost/how hard will it be for smaller guilds/what purpose does the guild hall serve other than a little hang out spot/etc.

The rest of the mastery trait lines, the ratio of mastery points in game to how much it will take to max out everything, how ToK will interact. So far we only know about some of the basic gliding abilities and precursor crafting.

Don’t get me wrong I don’t mind reading about the different Hylek tribes and that kind of stuff (would have been nice if they tied in some of their lore mastery info into it though). But I can really only see 2 possibilities of the reason of why they are releasing info the way they are.

1) Less is actually finished then most of us assumed when they announced HoT and they don’t want to mention anything that is not set in stone. Thus, we get “filler”, stretched out, or recap info weeks to bide time.

2) They are planning some really heavy content dumps in the next week or two, so they are padding out in the front.

Really, until they just give us more info or tell us a rough release date (so we can presume a steady flow of info until then), we can’t do anything other than speculate.

I don’t mind learning about new lore things, but I’d rather it be between meaty content, not recaps/rehashes of info we already know.

That being said, few months of no content and no information is not good, maybe revealing it too early was a mistake, but what’s done is done, at least they’re not making things worse.

I feel like the reveal wasn’t really for the people who are playing the game. It was for people who left the game or those who haven’t picked it up yet to make them interested again. People will see news articles about HoT every other week or so and it will be in the back of their brain for them to buy the core game now or the expansion when it drops months from now. Most of this wasn’t meant for the people that log in everyday and keep up to date with any news article they put out.

It also doesn’t help that it always takes a lot less time to consume info than it does to create it. The PoI vids (which I have come to enjoy in their own rights), and the blog posts take hours to make, but ~15 min to watch or 3 min to read.

Do I want more information, yes! But it’s gotten to the point of me kinda not caring anymore. Info will come out when it does, worrying about it or complaining doesn’t make it come out any faster. And each week, just makes me realize that the game will take that much longer to update.

And with the lack of any meaningful updates since Jan, I’m just bored in game now (besides the daily, I’ve lost the drive to really do anything). I hope all of you who wanted an expansion are happy, I’d much rather have had LS 3 already here (and almost done), then still waiting for info about the expansion, which is most likely still many months away.

To be fair, a recap on the PoI was expected, and this week they’re going on about PvP and another tournament. While I don’t give a rat’s buttocks about the PvP tournaments, they do have to be advertised in real time for the events. And when advertised, you don’t want them overshadowed by something else.

I do want more information about specializations guild halls, but … ::sigh:: But to be fair, I personally can’t fault them for no new information this week. I’m sure the PvP tournament will take the focus for a couple more weeks as well, here and there. I think ANet’s PvP fixation is unhealthy for the game, but it doesn’t surprise me.

Nah I feel it’s gonna be focused for next month too because all of May, every Sunday will be a tourney cup to qualify for the World Tournament Series in August.

I don’t think we’re gonna get any “meaty new information” in regards to PvE until an upcoming Beta or Convention. Big reveals seem to be reserved for those moments.

I think people have slightly inflated expectations about some of these systems; there is absolutely nothing remaining to talk about with respect to Masteries that doesn’t involve revealing information about other parts of the PvE systems, for instance. We’ve seen all of the Mastery tooltips from the Beta event, and they’ve explained how they work.

We’ve seen the new sPvP map, we’ve had a ton of information about the new Borderlands, we’ve been given a glimpse into how open world, hard boss content, and personal story will work with HoT and been given insight into some really significant changes to map rewards. Precursor crafting has been detailed. We’ve gotten a little bit of lore. We’ve seen how gliding and mushrooms will work.

Other than specializations and guild halls they’ve told us most of what we’re getting. A lot of what they haven’t told us are things they probably shouldn’t, and should let us discover from actually playing the expansion.

And as to specializations, talking about them individually and in depth, before they’re relatively certain on exactly what the new trait line, 8-11 new skills (six utility + weapon), and profession mechanic look like is just asking for trouble. That kind of thing won’t be finalized until pretty late in the process. This goes double if they’re also doing work on the base professions to modernize them for these changes. They can only spend nine weeks stringing out specialization updates if there’s more than 9 weeks between finalizing them and the player base having access to them via either beta events, or the expansion launching. I suspect that may not end up being the case.

Not being able to do that greatly reduces the amount of mechanically beefy weekly updates they can make.

I agree, Eolirin, with this caveat: They announced that they wanted our feedback so they could tighten up and finalize the systems. We can’t give feedback on information we don’t have.

Of course that doesn’t mean they should info dump the whole project on us. Yet for feedback to matter, they really can’t wait to the very end of development. I know some people will throw tantrums if anything changes from the first announcement but surely they can plaster it with enough “this is a work in progress, anything you see here may be completely removed or changed by the time of release” statements to give more rational sorts quotable material to quash the overreacters.

We did have a beta, but seems like that was mostly a stress test, they didnt seem to discuss/speak much about other feedback they recieved. They also recently opened up some in house testers.

I dont think they really want normal player feedback much any more.

We had a stress test in PvE. We did NOT have a beta (PvE-wise). It was just the PAX demo.

I’m waiting for Gamescon to see some good reveals. Five years ago (or…was it six) they showed off the Shatterer there. I really hope they make a new reveal there.

I wouldn’t get your hopes up, maybe we’ll get a recap of the Itzel and Nuoch? OOOOOHHHHH!!! Maybe some more in game footage of them!!!

A few comments here, first in regards to the Revenant, though they said there would be more info coming, DO NOT expect to be told all of the Legends, Trait Lines and Skills that the Revenant will have. Just like the reveal of the original profession(classes) information, there will be some things you will only find out once in game and you’ve rolled that class.

You’ll most likely get an announcement saying that coming up in "x’ weeks we’ll begin talking about specializations, and that once they start each professions specialization will receive a broad overview of what it does, what weapon in might use, and a few of the skills. Keep in mind if you tell everything there is to know about every new thing, then there’s nothing to learn in game, and you have to save some of that for release.

Guild Halls, expect a very broad overview, with perhaps some details on acquisition, cost, etc.. We already know that we’ll have to discover them in the maps once HoT goes live, but we don’t know the how or when of that discovery.

Mastery information is pretty much complete as far as I’m concerned. I highly doubt they’d tell you ahead of time how many points it will take to complete all Masteries and what every Mastery is, they have to leave some mystery to these systems.

What’s everyone’s hurry, we know there’s an expansion coming, that should be enough if you’re really into the game, other wise, you’re just an information junkie.

No one is asking for every single detail of everything that’s coming in the expansion. It’s mainly just the three big features that have had very little or such a small snippet of information that they’re virtually unknown: Specializations, Guild Halls, “Challenging Group Content”.

For Specializations: The main thing I’m presuming a lot of people want to know is just – How much of a difference to gameplay and existing professions do they really make?

For Guild Halls: The main thing people would like is a very broad overview because we know nothing at all about them other than we’re getting them.

For “Challenging Group Content”: Again, same as Guild Halls, no nothing other than it will exist in the expansion.

I agree that Mastery information is basically complete, people are just asking for some low-level details <- most would consider this to be low priority compared to the big three above but discussion happens nonetheless.

For the Revenant, people just want to know the remaining weapons and legends. I’ll agree that we won’t get to know all the legends until in-game but each Profession page lists all the weapons that a Profession may use, I would think it’s not too much to hope for Revenant to get this same treatment.

Also it’s not that people are rushed, it’s more that we would like some more details because then we won’t have to wonder as much. Of course there’s always gonna be people who are disappointed by whatever information is released but I like to think those people are such a small minority.

yup, you are right.
people want to know if its something they can look forward to.
new proffessions/ways to play class is big one.
how big/varied the world is
new challenges
new goals to work towards

thats what people really want to know about ahead of time.
since there is only one new proffession, specializations is the bulk of new ways to play

how big/waried the new world hasnt exactly been said, but they kind of suggest it

nothing really on new challenges, not too much on new goals, except precursr hunts, but those are mostly old goals at this point.

Hmm personally if they wont reveal the whole revenant class i wont be buying xpac. Reason? Revenant is the olny thing i am interesed in along with some specializations due to the possibility of new weapons like hammer on engi. I am not going to buy a cat in the bag. Sry

I personally don’t want to see the whole thing revealed (“and there you’ll have to fight this boss”, “here are the zones you’ll have”, “these are all the new skills” etc.), but some information would be better than what we are getting.

For example, I would prefer the simple sentence “the Druid will focus on X” rather than “These are the Itzels. Here is a second post on the Itzels. You won’t want a third post? There you go anyway. Oh and here’s a Point of (dis)Interest on the Itzels!”
Note that I’m glad to learn new things on them, really, but some pieces of information could have waited for release, ’cause now I already know how to fight them…

As I already said, I have the impression they are releasing “news” for the sake of releasing news.

With the “schedule” Wallace gave earlier, we can say that we will have to wait at least 9 weeks before getting a Beta (after all, for the original release, the Mesmer was revealed on Dec. 14th and the first closed beta was on Dec. 16th), since the beta should allow us to play more mechanics. But at the current rate… Don’t expect a beta before the end of June, and depending on the feedback, the game might be released in August or September (I assume there are less things to do regarding the engine and mechanics on the xpac.) I hope I am wrong.

If I hadn’t found a new guild to play WvW with, I probably wouldn’t be as hyped as before by the game and news: there are cheaters all over the place, the zerg-meta is frustrating when you want to play fair (because a spamming-1-blob is easy…), so I can’t wait for the new BL to be released…

Anyway, if it keeps on going this way, it’ll be a massacre: the returning players will get bored and leave again, and the veterans who kept playing will get tired of the lack of every-other-week new content and take a break because being disgusted.

I believe we are in a lose-lose situation, I hope I’m wrong, because I really care about the game and the lore, and I hope we’ll get surprised by ANet.

Specialization information incoming:

The change to getting stats away from being tied to traits is a huge (and welcome) change alone.

That has been the nature of a lot of MMOs for expansions. Most of us that have been around will go along with this with ease (patiently); others will freak out right away without even having been able to see it live in action for a period of time. I have a lot of favorite builds for different classes as I’m sure many do, but if it gives more build diversity it’ll be worth it. Whether it’s balanced or not that will be a wait and see process all the way from betas to the xpac being live for a couple weeks.

actually its pretty rare to change core systems this much, but its not out of charachter for anet. They are willing to make fairly large changes.
The tricky part is, will it feel good to play with, thats unknown.

And there you have it, ennui completely avoided! Now what I’m looking for is the official Q&A thread for posting questions so they can all be consolidated. I have quite a few already but I want to put them in the right place rather than making Jon Peters dig for them.
