Installing HoT on a different drive
Because the expansion requires the base game to run, it’s pretty safe to say that they would need to be in the same place.
As Lazaar says, chances are they’ll have to be on the same drive.
However, given how GW2 installs, moving the entire install is as simple as dragging and dropping the current installation folder onto the new drive and creating a new shortcut
Time is a river.
The door is ajar.
If you’ve got another drive, try moving the entire game onto the same drive, rather than just HoT.
OR
Try moving other things onto there to make room for HoT. lol
Remnants of Hope [HOPE]: Tarnished Coast
A bit late on this post, but you could always use the system link command from your OS to make this possible.
For example, if you move your files from “C:\Program Files\Guild Wars 2” to “E:\Program Files\Guild Wars 2”, you could create a link by opening a command prompt with admin privileges and typing “mklink /d C:\Program Files\Guild Wars 2 E:\Program Files\Guild Wars 2”. That works well for games that aren’t setup to be easily installed on drives other than whatever your main drive happens to be.
Hope that helps, or is at least informative.

Hard disk drives are not expensive. Even large SSDs are imminently affordable.
Basically think of them as one and the same based on what they said. While it will undoubtedly involve a new client for everyone most of the changes are server side.
I am on a mac but I keep GW2 and any other large games on a secondary drive. They do not benefit from an SSD as much but they do not eat a lot of space on it either. Anyway, in most program installers you can set a different path. For user apps I typically do d:\program files when I am on a PC.
