HoT is acually the first expansion I bought (boxed version) and I’m kinda confused as to how to download HoT itself/new to downloading expansions in general ????. I already registered my serial code. After I put the cd into the dvd drive, I now have 2 clients for gw2. The other one is the one I originally bought months ago and the other one is the new one with HoT in it.

I tried logging in using the older client after I’ve registered my HoT code and it worked. I have elite specializations available and the new story is available too. My question is, do I actually need to download HoT files/anything for the older client?

you don’t need to install any MMO expansion, you already had the data since HoT release
just continue playing as usual and you can access the HoT content

yeah, the client is the same for everyone regardless whether you have HoT or not. applying HoT key to your account grants you access to the new contents.
