Yes, I’m double-posting here and in GW2 Discussion, but I think this merits it!
Our HR team just sent over a pretty cool opportunity. If you’d like to become a (local, Seattle/Bellevue area) playtester for ArenaNet, please head over to this page and fill out the survey.

Hmm, for now it makes surely only sense for american people that do live in Seattle to fill out that survey.
However, in that survey before you start, its also said, that people which also don’t live in Seattle should fill it out.
I’d like to know, how should be people able to help you, if they don’t live in the same territory as you Anet??
Whats explicitly with people, which even don’t live in America at all, like all of the people in Europe for example. Do they come all not into question for this here at all?
Just curious about this, because normally I would have expected to read in that survey a line like, that only peopel which do live in America, or more concretely, only America and living in Seattle should fill out the survey.

@Orpheal
The post says “local” in the title and then specifies that local means Seattle/Bellevue in the message.
The survey also says they’re looking for people who live in the Greater Seattle area at the very top if you actually read the webpage starting from the top.
You can still always fill out the survey if you derive pleasure from being rejected. :P

I use to be a play tester a few years ago. Quite fun, I live in the UK and worked for a company based in NYC. amazing what you can do with the internet.

They need to test the game in their offices i guess. Probably the development servers aren’t deployed to the internet, like it should be.

I do have a question about this. Why local? Wouldn’t it be better to do this all over the United States and Canada, maybe beyond that? Technology today would allow for a secure server system that people can get into to send and receive the test materials. So again why is it a local thing that just makes no sense for testers. It also is not fair to the rest of the people who do not live in or near Seattle Washington.

I agree with Chyanne. There are MANY of us, including myself, who do NOT live in the Seattle, Washington area, who would LOVE to be a game-tester. I agree once more, with Chyanne, that this is NOT fair, for those of us who do NOT live in the immediate Seattle area. It doesn’t have to be a paid position; heck, I’d LOVE to volunteer as a game-tester.

I would assume that it is simply a matter of security.
Sending files out to random people is a rather good way to get stuff into the wrong hands and so on.
If they require you being on the office it makes it very much harder to steal assets and such.

If the testing must be done physically in their building, there is no unfairness involved. They simply can’t do it world wide, they only have the Seattle HQ.
So many times over the years since college I’ve wanted to go back to Jarra’s restaurant in Portland OR for their incredible Ethiopian food. (They closed a couple of years ago, so my 30th reunion plans are dashed). But I’m 3,000 miles away. Should I demand they travel to my area to cook for me?
