Guild Wars 2

Back when I “quit” about a year ago, it was mainly due to the game (the game modes I enjoyed playing) being to stale.

I was mostly and excursively a high level FOTM and WvW player. I was never type of a player who enjoyed open world group content , neither did I found myself being invested into the story.

I’d really love to get back into playing Guild Wars 2 (more or less casually) but what I find quite discouraging are the poor reviews of the HoT and state of the game according to Reddit/YT & GW2 official forum.

In your opinion – is now a good time to return to GW2 (buying HOT) or should I wait till everything gets “fixed”?

FotM & WvW are currently pending major repair. If those are you main interests maybe wait and see what those will bring when they release.. soonish.

From what you say, I’d say it’s a bad time to return. Check again mid December and see if the Fractal update makes it in. At the moment, Fractal rewards are uninspiring and WvW needs a lot of love.

Has Arena Net given any specifics on when these updates are supposed to come?
Any hints or developer comments?

I recall reading on Reddit a post from Colin that they’re currently moving "all"their resources to fix WvW, however, as far as I can remember, Arena Net has never had a good track record on accomplishing their set goals.

Don’t bother. WvW was basically destroyed by HoT.

The Devs claim they are working on a major WvW revamp, but considering it’s overdue by about 3 years I wouldn’t put much stock into their statements. Most people who played WvW left the game. The few left are mainly in the higher tiers, making the most of a very bad situation.

I doubt the WvW “revamp” will be very good. The ANET devs have never shown any proficiency in WvW design. They don’t play it, they don’t understand it and they think that we all should be playing their idiotic PvE anyways.

OP, as a former fractals player, you’ll have Raids to get into.

They are tweaking fractals right now. The new system is great (it’s a lot more casual) but the 50-100 levels feel like a beta.

WvW is a mess. Mostly because the part time WvWers are playing new PvE content (and the new Pvp progression system is a blast) & because they didn’t add rewards to WvW (new loot, achievements). But they said its the top priority & I’m sure it will be fine,

If you were WvW and fractals before, then you probably weren’t a casual. The expansion added a lot of stuff for hardcore players but isn’t very casual compared to vanilla GW2.

I wouldnt say I was a hardcore player, not sure exactly what the term means anymore, but I used to play a hour or two every other day playing supposedly “hard” GW2 content.

As for the WvW, my server was Fort Aspenwood. Is the old community still alive over there?

Some love it and some don’t like it much then there are those that have not bought it nor tried and will tell you exactly why it’s bad and some of those even put out very long reviews 12 hours before it went live.

I for one am enjoying it quite a bit. There are lots in WvW, I see them whenever I go in there. I am enjoying all modes of the game. I have done no grinding and do not ever foresee me ever doing any grinding as I am not one to want things ASAP. I just play and let the mats and collections come.

Wait for a price drop and roll a new profession in core.

HoT is geared towards maxed out mains and PvE grind. If your a more casual player or WvW focused I’d stick to the core game, maybe roll another toon as there are heaps of new players around due to the f2p, and drop your coin on another game.

Unless your into PvE grind, wait for a sale imho.
