Small question on behalf of a free-to-play friend. Ive heard rumours that the HoT Ultimate Edition is going away post-launch, and is only available to people pre-purchasing, but I can’t find any official word on this. My friend doesn’t get paid until after HoT launches, but they want the Ultimate Edition, rather than the regular one.

Will they be able to buy Ultimate provided they have to wait until after launch, or will they have to settle for Standard/Deluxe?

It will cost 2400 gem to upgrade at gem store if you get the standard edition. As the upgrade for core game is on gem store for ages, I suspect the same applied for HoT.

I don’t see any reason for the Ultimate Edition to be unavailable after launch. One can only purchase it through ArenaNet, and they certainly haven’t stated this will be so.

All the editions are going after launch. These are pre-order.
I’m sure there will be different stuff after the expansion hits.
Some stuff might change

If they’re in a state where the only thing they can afford is standard until after launch then I don’t see any reason to rush to getting the standard version beforehand.
At that point it can’t hurt to wait and see, worst case is they end up getting standard anyway.

The only thing ‘going away’ after launch is the Pre-purchase bonuses.

I don’t think anything else will change, with the exception that they may offer free character slots still, but, on the other hand, that would probably create a lot of backlash from those that did pre-purchase for that bonus, so……probably their hands are tied concerning changing anything for quite some time.
