[Q] Does XP keep accumulating if your mastery bar is full and you have yet not unlock mastery points?

Allow me to explain…

A few days ago I came back to the game and I also purchased HoT.

Now, since my main character hasn’t yet completely finished LW Season 2, I started doing that before jumping in to HoT. I just noticed that my XP bar is now full and it’s stuck there. When I click it I get a message saying that I need to complete a mission first to unlock mastery points.

I’m assuming this mission is part of HoT; however, I don’t want to skip ahead and would rather finish Season 2 first.

My question is, does XP keep accumulating towards the next mastery point, or is XP lost until I unlock mastery points?

It sends the excess to the lowest tier for the region your in. If you have a couple lower tiers that are still even, it goes to whichever requires the less xp to tier up first. Seems random at first. The only time I don’t think it will save if all tiers are even (you just finished the lower one but forgot to select). I don’t think it will pick a random higher tier to add xp. So yes you could still lose some.

I’m pretty sure it’s lost and that you need to select another Mastery line. If you don’t have any mastery points to spend, why not select another mastery line from another set to start progressing that and when you get a mastery point, go back to the first one and spend it there.

It’s not lost. Turns out they put it in another line. I’m not sure what determines which line they put it in, but they definitely put it in one. Forgot about my mastery points for a while, remembered about them, thinking they were lost. Turns out they threw the excess exp from my Pact Commander Mastery line down into the Fractal line.

I never saw it go elsewhere.

I’ll check later. My Tyria line maxed out long before I got that first HoT mission done. I just assumed the surplus was lost and, yes, I was a bit miffed about it.

YA I noticed the same thing. It seems to carry over to another mastery line.

Oh. Well that’s great news then that it carries over.

Thanks for the information. It’s great news that it goes on another line, even if it does chose one randomly.

It overflows, but it doesn’t really overflow to the place you might want it to, so it’s still best to choose your next line as soon as you have a spare moment to do so.

Wow, how did you get some many mastery levels?!! I’ve managed 2, and I play most evenings lol.

Even though it does overflow, it would still be great if there was a better indication when a line finishes. Something like the jiggly level up jewel. Given how neurotic the game is about alerting you to stuff it thinks is important, this feels like a really glaring oversight.

verdant brink, boosters(Celebration booster, XP booster, Food, utility) Ive done verdant brink since launch, great exp, and lots of events, and most of the monsters out there give exp too(the ones that spawn for the events as well)

I found this happens. My bar had maxed out one day and I hadn’t noticed because I was engrossed in the map meta. When I finally did spot it, I opened the mastery window and saw one of my other unlocked mastery tracks had been filling even though it wasn’t selected. You probably have to have it unlocked though.

This happened to me with Tyria masteries. The points seemed to accumulate in some kind of escrow, not visible, UNTIL i picked a new line to master. As soon as I picked a new mastery line, the bar immediately filled about a third full.
I don’t know if this is the way it’s supposed to work of if HoT masteries work the same way, but that’s what happened. I had never clicked on any of the other lines B4; that might make a difference.

The tutorial states that the experience is lost, but it’d be a polite feature to have experience funnel elsewhere if your current one maxes out.

Yep, I have noticed that as well. If you get past 100%, the overflow XP you earned is added to the next path you choose to train. Unless I’m imagining things that is.
