We’ve all had it happen; spend time on a map getting it ready for meta but in the final minutes before the event launches it’s clear the map just doesn’t have enough folks to pull it off. Quick taxis don’t seem to give folks the time to log in and get organized. While the “full maps” are just that; full. So it’ll be another few hours before you can try again.

I’m wondering if there is an easier way to find the maps that are progressing toward meta. Is there a way for players to see which maps are full and what amount of meta progression they are at? As of now it all feels random and I may get lucky and be placed on a good map, I may not. Maybe my map will have an exodus and I’ll be requested to leave before meta. I may be able to taxi into a map that works, or it could be a dud map trying to pull it together at the last minute. Are the maps even named?

Is there a better system that could make this more fun to keep the spirit of teamwork alive, instead of feeling like the kid that didn’t get picked to play?

My method usually involves getting on maps earlier, particularly something like dragon stand. Get there early, and join a commander on a closing map. Usually the commander moves themselves to group 2, so everyone can easily join on him when the map closes.

That usually means a new map, so it won’t close, and enough people to get the job done. I don’t think that’s ever failed for me.

To be honest, we shouldn’t really be relying on manual taxis to do content in the first place.

I wish we could switch servers in maps like in GW1.

GW1 districts were the right way to do it. The mega-server is messed up. I also hate the fact there is no DC queue that guarantees you will return to the same map during a meta or world boss fight. The old system was best.

just imagine how much easier it would be to farm nodes if we could change ip at will :o

We used to be able to do that via guesting before megaservers came into force. You can still do it with a bit of luck via guesting, but it’s kind of a gamble, since you could guest two servers and and up in the same /ip.

You can already switch instances fairly easy just by leaving the map and returning. I do it all the time farming plat nodes in Sparkfly Fen- I do a run before Teq, hop into the mists once Teq is over, and then return to a different map to run it.

Besides, Anet already has a mechanism in place to limit access to ori nodes and ancient saplings, so anyone who thought to “abuse” ip switching would just be filling up their bags with even more mithril and elder wood.

I feel like the megaserver was just a feature shoehorned into GW2 when it wasn’t ready for it, because it was cool at the time. The time they released it was also around the time ESO was coming online and spreading it’s marketing hype about it’s “megaserver” feature.

The end result was a huge fragmentation in a sense of server based community in what was supposed to be a server based game. At least, that’s how WvW was designed.

And the tools given to us to find each other, lost within the internal workings of the megaserver, is a tool designed for finding groups in a server based game that was reworked to provide us a way to switch instances. The end result is an experience of trying to find active map metas similar to waiting by the ocean for a message in a bottle.

It wasn’t as bad with S/W, because the start times of the maps were different and there was always someone looking for people, but the timed metas in HoT really show how inadequate it is.

A District system like the one in GW1 with support so commanders can post notes to let people know what they are doing in the instance would go along way in making this game a lot better.

Rehabilitated Elementalist. Now, trolling the Thief forums with my math.

I feel like the megaserver was just a feature shoehorned into GW2 when it wasn’t ready for it, because it was cool at the time.

GW2 launched with megaservers, they just weren’t the first choice. With the main maps always full, many of us have been playing on the “megaserver” since the start, aka the overflows. With ArenaNet jumping into zerg content from the start, it was quickly made obvious why megaservers were needed. The low pop servers were dead instances and people quickly learned to guest to the high pop servers, as even the overflows were more populated.

Districts are unlikely simply because it’d allow people to accurately calculate the active population. All they really need to do is split the zerg events from the map and put them in their own little area where everyone there is only there to participate in the event. Additionally, meta events shouldn’t be balanced for 50+ people, but rather 10+ like they used to, though most could be done with 3+.

These are some helpful ways to get around the problem and I appreciate them! Ultimately I just want to be in a map that is going for the meta.

It’s clear ArenaNet values cooperative game play and I believe the heart behind meta events is to encourage people to play together; for people to encourage others to join in this big epic event and then work together to accomplish it. Very fun. Very satisfying!

But I can’t help but notice only a few maps are actually able to get in on the meta action and there is no way to rally a map to join the fight after a certain tipping point. It seems this works in opposition to their core value of people playing together.

I have no doubt there is a better solution on the horizon and I’m glad I’m not the only one experiencing that “left out” feeling.
