Isles of Janthir
I think it is wishful thinking.
Remember, 4 maps only. And they start right left of the Silverwastes. The guild halls are situated below that, and there’s action in the Falls. So it’s unlikely that the maps will go up much, let alone to the Isles of Janthir.
For what it’s worth, it’s probably one of the most interesting locations to actually go to for me.
Well . . . it would be awesome if it happened, but I’m not betting the farm on it.
Wait. Four maps only? Is this confirmed anywhere?

Nope, they haven’t hinted at a number of maps. No clue where Evans got that from.
Many people still think Anet has said HoT will have 3 maps because they talked about 3 biomes. I seriously have no clue how people can confuse maps and biomes but.. alright.
I would swear I read them saying 4 somewhere, but I can’t go looking for it now so…
But, they did however say in interviews that there would be few maps, but with vertical space.

Sort of.. What they said was that they would focus more on verticality and content density than on the amount of maps and their horizontal size.
Well, discarding the whole 4 thing, which I seriously hope is wrong, I still don’t think we’ll go up to the Isles. However, fingers crossed.
Thanks, Diovid.
We did not get to them in Guild Wars 1, I highly doubt we will in Guild Wars 2.
As for maps I have counted 5 thus far.
1 Verdant Brinks (includes all three levels [Canopy, surface, and subterranean])
2 Gilded Hallows
3 Lost Precipice
4 Borderlands (unknown how many actual maps )
5 Stronghold (unknown how many actual maps )
It seems unbalanced to have only Verdant Brinks and a guild hall to level 5 Masteries in the Maguuma zone even with Verdant Brinks having 3 levels and a decent sized map. When you consider we will have 30 maps to level 3 Masteries in Tyria’s zone. But then, we have only had a look into a small portion of Verdant Brinks, and I was able to level 2 and a half mastiers in 6 hours with normal play (not focused on leveling mastry).
Wishful thinking, Crystal Desert. There is more in game that points to Crystal Desert by far than Isles of Janthir. Have you spoken to JoAnna in Stronghold of Ebonhawke?
As far as White Mantle, it is hinted or stated that the Bandits in Guild Wars 2 are connected with the White Mantle.

If the Living Story isn’t still dealing with Mordremoth after the expansion, I’d expect th Crystal Desert might be the next place the LS will take us. I haven’t spoken to this JoAnna, but I’ll look her out. Notwithstanding that, we have the desert gate at Ebonhawke, the “obvious” future zone portal in the bottom right corner of Mount Maelstrom, and the crossing point from Orr to Crystal Desert via the Scavenger’s Causeway that could all be potential future Living Story progression maps.
I’d love to see the latter – it could be a way to show us how much of an effect Trahearne’s ritual actually had, and allow us to see Orr “after the cleansing”… that said, it’s a strange place to start if you’re going to the Crystal Desert I suppose.
Slightly more on-topic, regarding Janthir, I suppose we could see a portal to Janthir from the Exalted golden city. I wouldn’t expect it with the expansion. I’d be keen to see Janthir also, however, but not as keen as I’d be to see Cantha.
