Isn't Everyone A Dragon Hunter?
I want ANET to answer this question too
heck, dovakin sounds better then dragon hunter, let alone that it makes more sense.
I don’t like the name either – but I’ll play it regardless of whether it gets changed.
Mostly because Dragonhunter sounds too restricted in function; its purpose is there to hunt dragons, but the guardians do so much more and it becomes restrictive. What do dragonhunter guardians do once the last Elder Dragon falls; put his boots on the wall and start working at a diner?
With ideas like light and virtues, bows and traps, it would make sense to consider some more generic names, i.e.
Lightcaster
Lightguard
White Arrow
Light Warden
Bastion
Lightbringer (sic, my favourite although ambiguous)
just a few suggestions…
Seamarshal Belit / Initiate Xun Tsu / Mistwarden Roshone

FYI, we also know the elite spec for Elementalist’s name: Tempest. What are people’s thoughts and expectations of such a name? Personally like it but that means it’s focused on wind somehow?
A tempest is a storm. There are fire storms, sand storms, electrical storms, windstorms, and rain storms. Tempest was a GREAT name pick.

I rather have it as a skill or a title, but that`s just me.
if the skills and gameplay are supporting this. I am all for it.
I even love the D&D elite class Tempest, with it`s whirling blades.
It`s all part of the execution.
Dragonhunter in appearence and gameplay does not reflect the name. If any it is quite a stretch

I agree, really great name.

Disappointing very disappointing. The skills are meh another one with traps that are proven within the other classes that have no real use.
I would like the spec for the guardian to had been something like taking the class a knot further in its own design the same as chronomancer (that’s why we think is great, is taking the mesmer skills and lore a little further).
With the guard they simply took a warrior class and cramped inside the guardian. Instead having more skills about direct effects with light and divinity (aren’t we guards after all?) we get the traps (WTF?) because we know the guard is prone to traps and sthealth. Is within its lore and we all know that [/oh the irony]

Or… you could shut up until you actually know how the skills work after todays ready-up? It is not like they explained any skills besides the heal-trap, and even that one was rather vague.

Let’s get off the topic of traps until we see how it plays out. for now, continue pitchforking over the uninspired name. As Ten Ton Hammer put it:
“My issue with this is that the term itself is what all heroes of Tyria are currently doing. We’re all hunting dragons in an effort to protect the world and yet a guardian and all subsequent guardians now share this highly specific and slightly unimaginative title. It would be like calling the necromancer specialization Vinehunter because one killed Marjory’s sister.”
At this point, Anet should post an official poll with maybe ten names for the players to choose, I think.

Nah ANet can do what they want, of course by the same merit player can complain about what they want to. I guess if ANet wanted to stop the complaining they could do that. Or they could release info on… well basically anything else to be honest and this whole dragonhunter business will fall to the side as players find something else to complain about.
I don’t think we know enough to completely judge the name yet, though personally I don’t have a problem with it. It might describe the class better than we think, it clearly has hunter aspects with the bow/traps/etc but with an elite called Dragon Maw it sounds like it might have dragon inspired aspects. We also don’t know anything about the lore, though there have been Bone Dragons in the Maguuma Jungle so perhaps there is a tradition of dragon hunting there that refers to a different type of dragon than everyone is assuming.
Why specify guardian as a dragon hunter when every one of our characters, which can be any of the playable profession in Guild Wars 2, is technically hunting dragons? It’s part of the main plot aside from S1 of the Living World, and even then it eventually lead to us hunting Mordremoth. It just doesn’t make much sense to me is all…
It’s a subtle way to say to us one thing and one thing only…
PLAY GUARDIAN OR BE A SCRUB
This is pretty true in any game mode already. Medi zerk guard OP big-time.

Speak for yourself only… from the RP point of view my character is egoistic, opportunistic, misanthropical little **** who would actually work for the dragon if that promised a rich payday. ^^
Pet project: Outfit overhaul.
I was expecting something more inspired for my Guardian like a Vanguard or something like that
