Hey there! I’m kind of confused with the newsletter as I’ve been having issues… I’ve gotten my beta portal, so I’m very stressed about being signed up properly so I can be invited to betas…. it would suck terribly if I had gotten my portal but cannot get in because I’m not receiving the newsletters.
So, I am signed up since HoT was first mentioned. I’ received previous updates (albeit a bit later than some) to my email, which is also my account email.
However, I did not receive the Stronghold beta stress test announcement at all to my email. Not in the junk folder and not accidentally erased, I checked.
I’m worried that I’m not signed up properly. Any way I can know if I am? I signed up again this morning… has this happened to other people as well?

If you have the portal, you don’t actually need to be subscribed to the newsletter.
To confirm whether you’re subscribed or not, try signing up again. If you see this, you’re properly subscribed. If however you see this, you’re not subscribed until you click the confirmation link in the email sent to you.
Even if you’re subscribed though, you might not actually get the newsletters. NCSoft in general has problems sending emails. The last newsletter I’ve received was sent on April 28th.

First off, there was one an e-mail sent out about the Stronghold PvP Public Beta, it was e-mailed on April 9, and that was the only e-mail sent out for the Stronghold Beta Test. As long as you’re receiving the newsletter on other stuff you should be fine, but honestly, there haven’t really been many newsletters sent out via e-mail.
Second, ignore Healix instruction about the confirmation e-mail, as it was confirmed by ArenaNet on this forum the no confirmation e-mails sent out, if anyone received one, well, well it wasn’t from A.net. If NCSoft sent one, that’s for something else entirely.
There have been a grand total of 6 e-mails sent out regarding the HoT expansion from NCSoft/ArenaNet. Those 5 were sent on the following dates: January 20 and 24, March 5 and 20 and the last two in April, the 9 and 28. That’s the only e-mails that have been sent out regarding anything to do with HoT and/or HoT Beta’s.

Create a new email account and try it yourself. There was a confirmation email back in 2011 when I first signed up and there’s still one today. There is however NO confirmation email if you were already registered.
For those asking about a confirmation e-mail in relation to a newsletter subscription, I want to mention that I asked our newsletter person about this, and he said that the note indicating that a confirmation mail would be sent was in error. If you signed up for the newsletter, you’re subscribed. If you were previously receiving our GW2 newsletters, you’re subscribed. No confirmation will be sent in relation to an existing or new newsletter subscription.
Perhaps they don’t even realize that they’re using NCSoft’s mailing service. I can confirm however that failing to accept the confirmation email will result in no newsletters being received.

Now the beta schedule and instructions are sent to your email, so unless you see someone else post the schedule somewhere (and I’m sure you can find it very easily once it’s released), you won’t know the schedule/instructions.
