So i quit a few weeks into hot coz i didnt like the expansion. Gave it some time, tried again and i will say my opinion did softer on some things.

Meta events are fun, HoT still sucks solo but getting into a good map is a blast.

I still really enjoy the elite specs, and its much easier to unlock with the 250 points.

But it just doesnt feel worth it. Im no stranger to putting effort into games but some of this stuff is crazy. 20 flax for 1 oil? and each plant drops 1 or 2? Not to mention how hellish it is running through hot maps off meta time solo with all the cc.

the grind from 450 to 500 crafting. 5 plated dowls for 1 inscription? i did a full SW event, broke down everything and picked up every ancient tree i saw, i got 6 logs.

gating, toxic bacon. for real? 1 HP gated by TWO masteries? poison and adrenal? like is that needed.

bah maybe im just old, maybe the game changed but where is the incentive ?
cool costumes? no, they only added what 4? and how many new cash shop costumes in the month after HoT (that cost 50 bucks btw)

doing the math, it would take vastly less time earn the money at a IRL job to buy gold to buy mats off AH than it would to play the game and get the same results. is that intended?

It just doesnt feel worth it.

In genereal this is right but you can actually bypass most mobs. Given that you name it together with flax, though, is strange. The first flax farm can be reached easily (if the WP is uncontested, it’s even easier) and the second flax farm is only a “problem” at certain times of the day when the “ante chamber” is guarded by mordrem. Since these will not follow you very far, though, you can run through there but you’ll need a well timed dodge to come out of it unharmed. If you have no gap closers (blink, teleport, GS 4 sword 2 on warrior, etc.) you can battle them – LoS pulling works wonders to bunch them up nicely.

That’s not changed from before HoT – what changed were the insignia with leather being required now. There’s TONS of ancient trees in the HoT maps – just harvest them. Get a high mobility class (or one with stealth) and putting the axe to them is a breeze. I was always short on ancient logs myself but since HoT I have 300+ in the bank and I redid a lot of exotic weapons which needed them for inscriptions and the weapons themselves. Recycling rate of wood is indeed meh – therefore … kill the trees.

You’re talking about the HP where you eat the stuff and have to survive a given time? Adrenal is not needed for that unless they changed that. Mango pie saw me through that one on all characters – you just have to be smart when you hit your heal skill.

thanks for the info but i think ima walk away for a while again. BnS, BDO, legion, possibly camelot unchained this year. i know i know its not all about the rewards its the journey, but ive lost sight of the carrot entirely it feels like.

For me, the carrot is if it’s a good challenge for me. The first time I entered HoT, I couldn’t walk 5 yards (meters) forwards without stumbling. It’s been fun figuring out how to get squishy characters through to do the story and max out their elite specs.

Rewards in GW2 have always been meh, because you don’t need any awesome drops to play. In other games, good drops matter a lot more so those games are packed with more good drops. Playing GW2 (or even GW1) for ‘rewards’ has always, for me, been a recipe for frustration.

GW2 has plenty of challenges that are outside masteries — if none of those appeal, yeah, walking away is a good idea. However, if you’re interested in finding what else is available, then ask away and move yourself out of your old comfort zone.

Ok im going to ask because i HAVE to be doing something wrong theres now ay this is right.

Ive been back 5 days, ive done 5 succesful hot metas. im actually going backwards in progress.
im down a ton of gold from buying salvage kits, ive gained 12ish points in each of my professions and thats it. i cant make gold coz i have to save the mats for crafting, but im running into brick walls on certain mats i cant get around. i cant buy those mats, coz im losing gold salvaging gear to get the other mats.

please, what am i doing wrong? do i really have to go back to SW trains?

It just doesnt feel worth it.

Yes. Wouldn’t want you to have fun playing a video game, that would just be wrong.

Seriously, you really do… HoT maps will get you money but its nowhere near as good or reliable.

I’m only here because sometimes I just like to watch things burn.

Pezz, you shouldn’t be losing gold on HoT maps. However, it will seem like you are if you don’t sell any of your loot. Here’s a tip: people really want Viper’s stats on their armor since it’s a new set with HoT. The only way to get it is with black diamonds that drop infrequently from exalted chests in auric basin under tarir. So do the tarir event a few times (it’s fun so it won’t feel grindy), loot the chests, and then sell the diamonds. Their prices has been dropping slowly but steadily since HoT released and demand decreases, so sell them now. Same thing with mordrem lodestones which you can get by combining mordrem slivers which you get in noxious pods in Dragon Stand.

You can also save all of the items which you open to give you gear and open them on a low level character. Sell all of those materials and make a decent profit.

It sounds to me like you’re expecting money to fly at you from just going around killing things and doing events. That’s how many games work, but not this one, not anymore. You have to sell what you salvage if you want a decent income.

And you should only be using basic salvage kits for everything except rares, for which you should be using mystic kits (if you can make them) or master kits (if you need ectos). Otherwise, sell your rares and just buy ectos when you need them.

It just doesnt feel worth it.

Wait how do you lose gold salvaging? That doesn’t make any sense. Basic Salvage Kit cost you 3.52 copper per use, are you saying that you are get less than 3.52 copper worth of item? With just 1 gold worth of basic salvage kit you can salvage 2850 times. So ya I guess you lose gold by salvaging stuff and using it the material. But it will be a very very very slow bleed. I can’t belive you don’t get 1 gold by the time you salvaged 2850 times? Even the master salvage kit, is only 61 copper per use and you should get a lot more than that when salvaging.

Unless you mean that you transferred gold into gem to buy copper-fed salvage kit and/or silver fed salvage kit? They are not worth it gold wise. They are only worth it for their quality of life.

What crafting profession are you trying to get to 500? And why do your want them to reach 500? You should use gw2crafts.net for a guide. Maybe you are spending way too much gold to level up it.

For gold here some little trick. Do the most ascended material you can each day and sell them. Well for Elonian, Deldrimar and Spiritwood (not so much for damask). Even if you buy everything you need on the TP you gonna make a profit. That only need level 450 so you could do at least some of them. As today, it give you a profit of 5.67 gold per day if you can make and sell the 3 each day.

Level up fractal mastery 3 and buy encryption keys everyday. Buy the first 30 keys at a lower price everyday. Even if you don’t do fractal, buy the encryption on the tp. Buying 30 keys and 30 encryptions everyday will cost you 12 gold, but will give you 13.8 gold back. So you will still make a profit.

Just by doing those two thing everybay (take about 10-20min) you will gain 7.5 gold each day.

You can also make some gathering. http://gw2timer.com/?page=Map&section=Resource
Here a list of places where you can find resources. This is especially good for high price ressources like Tier 2, 3 and 4 of Wood and Metal that you can use to do your ascended crafting. It’s more profitable if you use them because if you sell them you get the 15% tax. But you can sell them if you need gold. Flax is also nice. There is at least 2 place where you can find a bunch of them in like a 10 meter radius. 1 in VB and one in TD. You can get around 12-18 Flax in less than a minutes with is about 30-50 silver of profit.

There is plenty of ways to get gold right now. You just need to find them.

Gating HP’s behind mastery lines was a good move, to bad this community is filled with babies that don’t understand the point of progression in a RPG.

I think its ok if you don’t like the game, just don’t ruin the experience for others that do. Its ok to talk about bugs and the not so good personal story the game has, easy bosses, viability of classes in raids but I am not sure I feel the same when it comes to RPG elements and basic progression, you need to be able to spend a decent amount of time for things to be meaningful but when you strip the game of these things you just end up with not much to do or feel proud off.
