I registered it to my account and the beta slot is there, which is good. Now when do I get my veteran character slot? I’m assuming I have to wait a couple days for them to implement it.

Yup, they periodically check for the eligibility for the veteran bonus and add the slot. You should get it before a week has gone, provided your account is old enough of course.
