Nice find!
Based on the incredible lack of detail so far, I am assuming “this summer” means September 19th.

Yeah. Assuming “this summer” remains the release period, they have until September 22nd to launch. :p

Credit goes to the amazing users of reddit, not me. :-)
I’m sorry but who’s that guy saying?

Yeah. Assuming “this summer” remains the release period, they have until September 22nd to launch. :p
And they have the Australian summer as second release window. The meteorological Australian starts Dec 1st.

It also applies to South America; we’re currently on Winter Season, so if it happens to be released this summer, we’ll receive this winter (we = brazilians)

Interesting. They also stated over 5 million units sold worldwide.
But, best of all, the ‘this summer’ statement. I hope it holds true! =)

Oh so it’s a guy from ArenaNet. Mhm I thought he wasn’t so I took it for granted guessing it was an irrelevant info (not true)
The reddit thread had a followup from Devon Carver,
“I wouldn’t read too much into this. In that we’ll announce a date when there is a date to announce.”

Let’s hope the Marketing Manager knows more about it, and also hope that any subsequent comments are damage control. Fingers crossed.
E3 is in 2 weeks. They’ll probably hold off until then. At that point, late August would be the absolute earliest with late September being more likely.
If they go for a mostly digital release (no collector’s edition, very limited supply of boxes), they could release within a month of announcement. HoT could for example be nothing more than an account upgrade sold in the gem store or alternatively available just like gem cards (bad idea though).

I think that is purely damage control to try to rollback the surprise. That wasnt a slip up like the poster said… he deliberately said this summer cuz it was likely the targeted date that was discussed in private meetings he was privy to, and just got caught up in the moment not realizing he was saying what he was saying…..
To a marketing guy announcing something is releasing it .

Total slip of the tongue and watching Grouch’s expression, he didn’t catch the slip at all. This summer makes sense anyways since original launch was Aug. 28th. In the past they have released other titles that were on the same dates as prior releases.
People make mistakes. We all knew the game was coming soon anyways. This isn’t that big of a deal unless you thought the game was coming out next year. In which case, don’t ever become a professional prognosticator.
I loved how cold the statement, “…how we monetize the players” came out though. Marketing dude just sees us a $ signs.
The summer makes sense because it would be quite surprising for them to take much longer given how little is actually in the expansion. If they wait too long, without adding new content, people will start complaining that they waited so long for so little…eh…people will complain anyway.

Those marketing guys live for the $$$
They only care if we enjoy the game as far as it improves the $$$ per player.

I’m assuming they have an in-house goal release date, but they’re not releasing it publicly for fear of delays.
which means, late august…..

I was becoming concerned that it would be late fall or winter before we got the expansion. So this is potentially good news for me, although I will take their advice and not get too excited until an official release date is announced (a summer verification isn’t necessarily all that exciting anyways).
I wouldn’t put any stock into what Devon Carver says about anything relating to GW2.
The head of marketing at ANet said “this summer” means a lot more than Devon saying “don’t think too much into it.”

I think two important things are to note here.
1: people assume that inside Arenanet HQ there are important documents with exact release dates mentioned and everything set in stone. This is very unlikely. when they say that they don’t have a releasedate yet, it is cause they don’t have one yet.
2: This is a slip of the tongue.
Reality is that Arenanet really doesn’t have a set releasedate yet. The best they have right now is a railbook where they have an prognosed release date for when everything goes according to plan. For example. They might have a plan to have a release on the third anniversary cause they have good experiences with releasing on that date and cause it is (more or less) when they now expect it to be ready.
But for example the beta left some pretty solid feedback bout e.g. the day and night cycle and the lack of challenging content. This can lead to some alterations that can push the fictional internal releasedate forward. With other games you have seen how dissasterious it is to announce a date and later on have to postpone it.
So the best we can tell from this slip of the tongue that there is some founded specualtion that Arenanet is currently aiming for a releasedate somewhere in the summer. That is extremely far away compared to this threads title that it is coming this summer.
In other words. We know now that a release in the summer is “on the table”. We also all know what on the table means right

QFT. I could not agree more.
I wanted all the parts for my new PC in march, but things happen. So I’m hoping I can get my new PSU and GTX 960 before HoT launches.
I wonder if it will be before or after Windows 10 launches. Or could ANet be holding off to make sure GW2 runs on Windows 10?
Per Steve Fowler, Head of Global Marketing at ArenaNet, HoT is scheduled to launch this summer (2015).
Source @ 25:35 – 25:45
So HoT definitely will not launch late September through December if on plan.

And this is why Devs never give a date unless they are ABSOLUTELY sure because people will take any off-hand comment and hold it as the one and only truth. And if they don’t meet that time frame, the masses riot saying “BUT YOU SAID-”
This is why we get “It’s ready when it’s ready.”
From what I can tell, this conference the video is taken from a developer’s conference and not aimed for publicity or exposure. Please, do NOT guarantee this comment is set in stone.
I wonder how much trouble poor Steve is in. I’m pretty sure that it’s an informal statement.

Steve does not specify which summer is meant. Northern or southern hemisphere? Calendaric or meteorological summer? There is still room for interpretation and postponement.

I don’t think that HoT will release before windows 10, although nothing is impossible. If they are currently aiming for a date in the summer, then it is likely in August (after the announcement, they also would want a decent pre-order window).
This got lil to do with windows 10. The game runs perfectly fine on the windows 10 technical preview. As Microsoft allready announced that they are not changing a lot but minor polishing to the technical preview as it is now, it is safe to assume that it will run on windows 10 just fine.
He slipped up big time there! Even though it’s not an official statement, I’m happy they’re aiming for a summer release.
EDIT: I won’t grab a torch and a pitchfork if not! I totally understand this was just a slip.

Old news
It is clearly a slip of the tongue and Arenanet officials have reacted on reddit that it is no reason to draw conclusions. There is no set releasedate yet. So all we know is that a release in the summer is “on the table”
-edit- irrelevant comment now cause of a merged thread

Well, they said that they want to drop elite specializations into the game before the expansion comes. Probably to gather feedback, so do assume that the expansion will atleast come one month after the elite specializations.
We have yet to get 6 more spezialisations, so atleast 6 weeks are left before the specializations come into the game.

Well, it could still release in September. ‘Summer’ is technically June 21st (Summer Solstice) through September 23rd (Autumn Equinox) this year. Still the comment, the way it’s phrased, doesn’t strike me as set in stone. Its an expected soft deadline, but if they don’t meet it, then they don’t meet it.

No, they said they will drop core specializations into the game before the expansion, not elite specializations.

We already knew this anyways beyond this statement. Q3 projections are high which basically means Summer release.

It’s a bit pedantic to think it’s anything other than the common definition of summer as it pertains to the U.S. They wouldn’t use intentionally misleading phrases and doublespeak at a developer’s conference, or I would certainly hope not.
If things go smoothly, maybe August. I’d bet on late August.
not Oct, Halloween is too big a deal to interrupt.
not Nov or Dec, B&S comes to NA around then.
September always seems a strange option, back to school and all that reducing playable hours for kids, parents, and those of us that get stuck behind busses or in school zones.
So I’m betting August as well. Maybe a sale/trial weekend in September, same for Dec.
August 28th… Anniversary? Who knows.
June 28th was the official announcement on the release date all those years ago…

August still seems very optimistic to me; they still have so much to turn out in just a couple of months if so.
The main reasons I’m skeptical of August is because they have to release the new trait system first and work out all the bugs with that first. This being after each spec reveal, and after at least one more beta (my assumption. But HoT beta isn’t the same as core specs). But regardless i assume they’ll have at least 2 more beta sessions, closed or otherwise, before HoT too.

I think Beta will be relatively streamlined, and it’s already begun.

Yep, it has begun! Again this is pure speculation on what I think would be the most logical plan. I assume:
- We’ll see at least one more closed beta, especially selected for those accounts who bugged and never got a beta slot despite getting a portal (further streamlining)
- Open Beta weekends, aimed for stress testing
- WvW Beta testing; this might have happen but it was a very limited scale. I’d hope they stress test that more.
I’m HOPING that E3 we will see a date not for HoT, but open beta. It seems like a more reasonable goal right now and can give us a better idea of where everything else falls into place.
I can confirm that GW2 runs on Windows 10 just fine. I’ve also done both Beta tests and had zero issues with those.
BTW, great find OP.
I think if everything goes PERFECT, they will release this on late August.
But it will NOT go perfect.
There will be tons of bugs and balance problems, engineer traits shcedule will be late, and someone will find an exploit that will render one of the new game modes totally off track. Also the luxury products like the collector boxes and art books will have incorrect proof prints. Finally, some other MMO will make a great announcement that will distract people from HoT for a couple weeks, so Anet will choose to not release the expansion at that time.
In the end, fixing and polishing things and waiting for the rigth market chance, they will release the official version way into November.</IMO>
There will be tons of bugs and balance problems, engineer traits shcedule will be late, and someone will find an exploit that will render one of the new game modes totally off track.
That won’t stop it from being launched and everyone should fully expect HoT as having issues. The only thing that really matters is core stability with lots of players/events (i.e. what we are beta testing right now which is why August makes sense since ANet plans on releasing the new trait path groupings probably sooner than later for sPvP sake).
…There will be “adjustments” (nerfs and a few buffs) for 2+ years to come after HoT launches just from the Specialization lines alone. And Revenant alone will see a buff/nerf cycle for at least a year and half.
People seem to forget GW2 launch to first year anniversary.
There are still so many things that are not announced yet, 6 more elite specializations, guild halls, and competitive group contents. If they announce one each week (which they have not do so recently), there are still a very long way to go.
Anyway, my school starts in August T.T
My guess is still that they’re aiming for the Launch Anniversary. This seems to back that up, unofficial as it may be.
