I’m up to 7,589 hours and missed about 3 days since launch.
HoT is different than what I would have preferred, but it’s different.. and the difference has a lot of positive sides to it.
I do feel like there is a lot of “Wow-creep” in the game, probably because most of the talent pool has WoW/Blizzard history. Never played WoW, so maybe I am lucky to get a new style without the subscription overhead.
Anyhow… since we have the tool to convert one HoT map currency to another..
How about the opportunity to buy the currency (is it Mag shards?) that will go toward legendary, using the tokens from other maps?
I don’t really care if the exchange rate is usurious (if that’s not a word, I’m coining it now).
Even with all the hours I have in, finding 9 other players to consistently grind at the raid with is incompatible with my life schedule (who am I kidding, I have no life)
I’ve crafted 17 legendary weapons by myself — why am I restricted from legendary armor and back pieces?
Heck, even give me the crappy skin version.
But really, I suppose the stat swapping in PvE doesn’t make a speck of difference.. it’s just a goal.
I don’t feel like I have any goals in HoT.

Well you do have a goal, beating the Raid, why don’t you give it a go? Regardless the Mag Shards are not what unlock the Precursor Armour so your request will not get you what you want.

Thanks. I looked in the wiki over the weekend and didn’t quite understand what I’d need to get the armor..
..and yes, it is a goal to find 9 people to play with regularly. I think that’s harder than anything else I’ve done in the game.
It seemed easier to organize a Tequatl size party than 10 specialists.

I think you can do it, set up a new guild and ask your raid interested friends to join it, get some days/times decided on and post adverts for any guys you still need with roles. Explain in your advert what kind of guild with what kind of attitude you guys will have, you’ll have access to lots of info on youtube/forums/reddit for good builds/team setup//tactics.
It will take a bit of time but you might find you really are thankful for the raiding experience as a game type when you down your first boss with your friends (AND you get to work towards your personal goal at the same time). Good luck.

Is there a place to find a raid group? That’s perhaps what I am missing.. Somewhere I can say “this is when I am available and this is what I want to play. Hook me up with an appropriate group.”
ArenaNET developers have the unique situation of having a 300 co-worker pool of real life people to join for guilds, raids, etc. I know 3 real life people who play, when I drag them into the game.
I know that I fear two things:
1) people in the group hindering our ability to complete a boss
2) me being the person in the group hindering our ability to complete a boss

I do appreciate your positive support, btw.

There is a Looking For section on these forums (I don’t know how good they are) so you can try there.
1) Will always happen at some point, the solution is often helping the player understand the mechanic they are failing on (give them your understanding or mental trick you do to deal with it; I was struggling on Gorseval trying to find the right wall section to drag him to for updrafting, as the tank it was pretty important, all it took was for a friend to ask “is your map zoomed in?” and i was like O_o and done the issue was fixed, not all fails are permanent or even hard to fix just work with your team). (zooming in the map allows you to see little swirls on it indicating where to drag the boss, before that point I was trying to see the swirl inside the wall soooo much harder xD)
2) If you have come to the raid with a good attitude and done your research you’ll be surprised how much help and friendliness people will present to you (infact in my example above no one even mentioned my constant fails for ages because they assumed I had a good reason for kittening up cause they knew me as a decent player – was almost counter productive in that situation xD)
You’ll find some people will want to join and try but it won’t be for them (might not even be for you) but I would suggest it to be an experience you at least try once before you die :P
No problem on the support, I’m happy you sound like you want to give it a go
GL HF!

[Luck] Farms mag shards fairly regularly, maybe hit up Deadly Cuddles about it.

Where do I recognise Deadly Cuddles from? Did he used to WvW on SoR or TC?

With an averaging play/day of more than 6 hours you are not casual, you need help.
Read / Watch guides.
Go raid / Find a guild that raids
Unique rewards for raiding should stay unique. If you want to be “casual” or in this case “don’t want to get over the fear of failure” then you don’t deserve the legendary gear associated with it.

They could make a 2nd legendary armor set for the casuals/non raiding crowd. But I am against giving them the same set.
Just gear up some high demand roles, watch some videos to learn boss mechanics, and find parties with LFG. The raids aren’t so hard that pugs can’t complete them.

I never really ever WvW’d on SoR or on TC might have dropped in back in the day for a map comp, but most people know me specifically from Edge of the mist, from my efficient Ktrains to help uplevels level and beat down any guilds that try to bag farm them.
Either that or from Twisted marionette, TD/DS.

Being able to make 17 legendaries means ur packed with gold or know the ways of how to get around. Save up gold n buy runs, buy a package run from serious sellers at discount n ull have ur leg collection!
I agree that there should be more options. This is exactly why I love Marvel Heroes, that game has spoiled me, non-raiders can get raid currency just by doing daily quests (slower than raids but it works, that’s how I got my raid stuff in MH, never did raids). And that is how you please every player.

Yes, I spent a few hundred gold the other day to get in on Sab and Gors kills. I collected what AP’s I was able to afterwards.. but, I would rather have a way that required some adventuring effort to earn the armor.
Every time I look for an answer, GW1’s “regular/hard mode” system seems to come to mind.
Casual people get the easier kill, but less reward. Hard mode lovers get the extra challenge and faster reward track.
What am I missing that this isn’t a thing?
Anet in there infinite awesomeness have provided two ways to get the legendary armor.
Option 1. have 9 m8s who also play guild wars 2 and do it yourself.
Option 2.pay for raid boss kills, you need 8 in total 5 of which are gorsival costing around 2k gold to finish the first part of collection.
No, just no. I’m all for casual players getting a chance for legendary armor, but it should be separate skins from the raid skins. Furthermore atm everything to do with the armor is a drop, there isn’t anything you can buy with shards that will help you on your way to the armor sets. The shards are only used for raid specific drops like skins, the ghostly infusion, minis and ascended sets.

Raids are why I know I’ll never get these things. Raids are why I stopped playing WoW, I didn’t have the time to play a raid when most people where raiding. Same with GW2. I play mostly in the day, finding a raid party then is like pulling teeth. Must have Exp, must have this gear with these runes/sigils or gtfo.
Feels like wow all over again. Still can’t keep everyone happy. But as long as the people who QQ’ed for months asking for raids are happy.

AFAIK, Leg armor will be obtainable after the timegated release of all raid wings. Based on the experience with this game, I’d say you probably do not want to do Raids just to get the armor. It’s quite possible that by time of the release of last raid wing, this whole Raid bandwagon will be totally abandoned like what they did to dungeons and something else will be “focussed” on. Fractals, WvW, PvP etc. got the similar treatment so far.
Most importantly, ANET will have to find out how they are going to handle upgrades and infusions for legendary armors when stat changes demand a whole different set of 6 runes. If someone is expecting one would simply get rid of 6 strength runes in favor of another set of runes because a stat change was made, it’s … well, I dunno what adjective to use here about that type of thought. If its a means to sell more upgrade extractor or create something ingame like fractals infusion extractor, it looks like a patchwork.
Personally, staying away from raids as I do not enjoy juggling my schedule to group with 9 people to do/grind a content. GW2 is now a fully mature game and its direction is ever changing. Hard to say if I will prepurchase another expansion from ANET again.

I am quite fine to be a different skin.. it’s the functionality I’m after. It could horrible, I’ll end up skinning it to my style anyhow.
Is there a recipe for the armor, yet? I don’t see it on the wiki…
Just a collection for envoy armor 1 that you complete buy doing/buying raids.
and i assume that will be the precursor.

Most of the entries I see are “Fragment of the Mists” on that collection.
We don’t know what comes after that correct?

We only know what we have to do for like 1/3 of the first tier. And the first tier rewards ASCENDED armor, not Legendary. It will probably be converted to Legendary once we do the tier 2 collection, which will require tons of materials (if other precursors are any indication)
Another method of getting Legendary armor (with or without different skin) is something that many people would want in the game, and I’d guess even Anet has plans for it. But revealing those plans before we know the entire legendary armor journey is useless.
Wait until we can make the entire set and then maybe even the devs will give us some clues of what they are going to do with it.
At least, as a pve player, you don’t need to invest too much gold for raid gears.
We wvw and pvp players have to make a dedicated raid gear, which, you probably already know, is not cheap at all. I agree that there needs to be an alternative way for obtaining legendary armor.

I’m confused by this. If we’re all doing PvE raids, why would there be more expense for WvW or PvP players? I have to buy gear too… if my PvE gear isn’t “correct” for the raid, I need to forge it or craft a new set.
WvW sees the most benefit out of ascended gear.
PvP players don’t need to buy ANY gear….
Help?

You aren’t forced to only play one aspect of the game.
A WvW or PvP guild may occasionally venture out into PvE and do things like raids or fractals or dungeons. Or their members might.
Mats and gold aren’t as easy to obtain in WvW or PvP (if at all in PvP).
So the PvE players earn gold and mats for their gear a much higher rate than WvW and PvP players assuming both groups primarily stay in their preferred areas.
And for open world PvE, raid gear will work just fine. Not so much with PvP or WvW. The builds are likely wildly different since in those aspects you either don’t use the same armor (PvP) or have to fight other players instead of AI (WvW). So those players have to have a second set if they want to be meta for both aspects of the game.
So to get legendary armor, WvW and PvP players first have to put gold and time into making a set of armor that will only be used to obtain the legendary armor. Whereas PvE players only need to make one armor set and be able to do everything they want as meta.

No just 6 collectibles from the first raid, coming from boss loot and chests. There’s 12 left, obscured by the “fragment of the mist” text, so prob 6 per raid wing.
As for the other comment. I honestly doubt many raiders would mind a open world pve or wvw armor set. For me and at least all raiders I know the stat swap is pretty useless considering you’re stuck with it anyway once the overpriced runes are slapped on it. It’s having some exclusive skins that shows dedication to the content we like that’s a lot more rewarding.
